November 12, 2016: Handstands for the Remainder of the Day
Listener comments! | |
![]() |
![]() Hmm bugs under the skins reminds me of early Mott. www.bbc.com... |
![]() |
![]() Formication is not for those with ants in their pants. One thing at a time. Catch up with you a little later, Bill. Hey, BiUK. www.wikiart.org... |
![]() |
![]() Do you find that people use the word surreal to explain the most quotidian experiences. |
Sat. 11/12/16 11:47am
Bill Mac:
Way to break the ice guys! How we be!!!
![]() |
![]() Are you still snotty? |
![]() |
![]() Yeah mon, hence the headstands, preferably on a drop cloth or in a bucket |
Sat. 11/12/16 11:56am
Bill Mac:
Dali and Escher and we not even online yet.... Can only go downhill from here
![]() |
![]() As Vivian once said 'Have you ever seen the back of your head?' theinklesslink.weebly.com... |
![]() |
![]() Bill, Brian, all, hello! |
![]() |
![]() @BiUK: yes to the *surreal* question. Is it that I have been around the block a few times , or is it that folks are necessarily all that observant as they go about their quotidian tasks? Oh, and thanks for the Escher, got lost in a rabbit hole about tessellation and the Alhambra, which, surreally, I have visted twice. |

Hello from cologne, good time to hear Bill Mac. Michael and Birgit
![]() |
![]() Hey, Fran! |
![]() |
![]() Sem! |
![]() |
![]() Fran, got drenched today, walking dog in woods. Should have stayed in bed. Sem, the Alhambra looks wonderful. Looks so good your could go twice. Very Moorish. |
![]() |
![]() Brian - always send the dog out/hold dog out of window first to see if it is raining! |
![]() |
![]() I've always wanted to go for a tramp in the moors, Brian. |
![]() |
![]() Hello Michael & Birgit. The old ones are the best. |
![]() |
![]() I'll have PETA on you for that remark, Fran. |
![]() |
![]() I like the one clip from The Simpsons where Homer is looking trough the phone bill. "Burkina Faso! Disputed Zone!?" Also: Hi, gang! |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:08pm
Bill Mac:
M&B, Fran AND Ken!!! | |
![]() |
![]() What was wrong with Upper Volta? Apart there being no Lower Volta. |
![]() |
![]() KfHP, yo. Tito is the rhythm ace. |
![]() |
![]() Ha! Sem - according to EU health and safety regulations the dog would be in a harness, safe and very happy. After Brexit though who knows.......... |
![]() |
![]() Its not the Volta that kills you, its the aums. |
![]() |
![]() Always found it incongruous that the capital of Liberia in West Africa is called Monrovia. Sounds east European. Never hear much music from there either. |
![]() |
![]() There's a challenge for Bill and the WFMU music library Brian - a Monrovian prog compilation? |
![]() |
![]() First 15 mins and I've got to do a teatime chore - back in an hour chaps!! |
![]() |
![]() Was this recorded by Glen Campbell originally? |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:15pm
Bill Mac:
@Fran Can it be done? | |
![]() |
![]() Brian - you are right I think? |
![]() |
![]() Yes^. |
![]() |
![]() Must reconfigure my James Last records tomorrow. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:16pm
Bill Mac:
He is of course | |
![]() |
![]() Bill, that is a really surreal comment. |
![]() |
![]() Did Buster ever make talking films? Please excuse my ignorance. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:26pm
Bill Mac:
I've seen him in occasional character parts
![]() |
![]() @BiUK: there's this: www.amazon.com... |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:31pm
The Missus:
He had a small speaking part in Beach Blanket Bingo
Sat. 11/12/16 12:32pm
Bill Mac:
Twould be interesting to see one of those crossover flicks
![]() |
![]() Sem, thanks, region 1 only. @The Missus was he No.23? |
![]() |
![]() Woman blues vocal, rock accents, call and response, and snappy patterns of hand-clapping. Now that's entertainment. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:34pm
rw:
Howdy. | |
![]() |
![]() Working but listening! thanks for the show today Bill! |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:36pm

![]() |
![]() There have gone to bed. Perching in chicken dreamland. |
![]() |
![]() oh I love dance music. |
![]() |
![]() ...in which roads and crossing them never enter the picture. |
![]() |
![]() At the moment laying eggs is not an option either. Change of clocks have messed up their internal clocks. |
![]() |
![]() Shout out to listener fred who is usually here at this hour. He's recovering from heart surgery. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:42pm
Bill Mac:
Hope Fred is doing OK. Send him our regards
![]() |
![]() Bonne nouvelles! Thnx, KfHP. |
![]() |
![]() @Ken Hope he'll get out of there asap too! |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:43pm
Bill Mac:
Great pic of the master on the page btw!
![]() |
![]() I'm happy to find you're using Buster Keaton pic today. I love him and somehow I was thinking about him this past week too. Surviving all the crazy turmoil with that deadpan face and athletic. |
![]() |
![]() Me too he's the best! My playlist homepage picture is Harold Lloyd another underrated physical comedy great |
![]() |
![]() Diggin' the arrangement, quite apart from that killer voice. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:51pm
Bill Mac:
I like her a lot.... too bad she got cut short. She's better than ALL of the current crop of divas
![]() |
![]() Fred went in last Monday so should have had his valve repaired by now and hopefully out of Intensive Care. He has no mobile though having donated all his monies to this station. HINT HINT.. |
![]() |
![]() Think she has listened to Etta James. |
![]() |
![]() oh, oh, That damn orange barrel, always repeating on me. |
![]() |
![]() I really should check out Harold Lloyd! shame I never have yet especially since he was super popular in Japan too. That kind of glasses is even called Lloyd Megane (glasses) there. |
Sat. 11/12/16 12:56pm
Bill Mac:
I just read that this song was over 7 minutes long and because of its length was a two sided single (a la American Pie) Any idea how many of these anomalies are out there? MacArthur Park maybe?
Sat. 11/12/16 12:57pm
Bill Mac:
@Mayuko - If you like Buster you'll like him
![]() |
![]() In the Court of the Crimson King. Parts 1&2. One of my few singles AND only prog one if that is what it is. |
![]() |
![]() Bill, bought the Urgent Jumping recently. Great comp. |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:06pm
rw:
Ha! Makes me think of 8 track tapes when the longer tracks would fade out, click, then fade back in. Also LPs like Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians where one track took up both sides of the album. I guess that's one good thing about digital music. No time limits. (Or is that a bad thing?)
![]() |
![]() @rw I have bad memories about my favorite Uriah Heep building up to the tremendous prog climax only to be interrupted by that mechanical move to the next track |
![]() |
![]() I used to play a game with a friend of mine. Name the title given the side and track number of an album. Impossible nowadays, do not even know the track names. |
![]() |
![]() Awesome game though.... you gotta do the same thing with phone numbers now. I remember friends numbers from 40-50 years ago. Not many if any from the last 10 years. |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:27pm
rw:
Hmmm... just thinking about digital time limits. I suppose by now somebody's created an infinitely long composition.
Sat. 11/12/16 1:29pm
rw:
And on second thought, I think I've heard such things. Most pretty boring.
Sat. 11/12/16 1:39pm
Michael and Birgit:
Bevis Frond. All time favorite... Thank you !
Sat. 11/12/16 1:39pm
Bill Mac:
@rw Now I'm curious.... I've seen things here go on for at least an hour. Someone suggested doing a 3 hour show consisting of two or three hour long pop tunes
![]() |
![]() h'lo h'lo |
![]() |
![]() @M&B Awesome! Nicks old stuff is timeless. |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:40pm
Dean:
There's Metal Machine Music and Non's Pagan Muzik. At this very moment and for the next 600 years or so there is an ongoing organ recital in Halberstadt of Cage's "As SLow aS Possible." Not infinitely long, but still, this one will require multiple potty breaks.
![]() |
![]() Scraps!!! |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:41pm
Dean:
And then there are Bruckner symphonies.
Sat. 11/12/16 1:42pm
Michael and Birgit:
Shure man, saw him about a year ago at the sonic Ballroom in Cologne. Still ok !!!
Sat. 11/12/16 1:43pm
melinda:
Hi all | |
![]() |
![]() Hi M'linda! |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:43pm
Michael and Birgit:
OOOOOOOHHHHHHH !!!! Classic !!!!
![]() |
![]() Chris Butler had a 69-minute long CD of just one song, actually just one very long verse, with guests. "The Devil Glitch". It's pretty good! |
![]() |
![]() @Dean That's cool! I wonder if there might be something on youtube to see the recital |
![]() |
![]() a pop song, mind you |
![]() |
![]() @Scraps I got to go back to that. Yep pop song that's what I was going for. |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:47pm
rw:
Dean, I hadn't known of As SLow aS Possible or of it's performance in Halberstadt. Sounds fucking incredible!
Sat. 11/12/16 1:47pm
Dean:
@Bill Mac: Never thought to look! Indeed, there are several, e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctqEybaqBS8 Just search YT for halberstadt cage organ.
Sat. 11/12/16 1:48pm
Dean:
I'm gonna hold out for the deluxe edition CD box set!
Sat. 11/12/16 1:48pm
rw:
As does this Gong track.
![]() |
![]() The gift that keeps on giving |
![]() |
![]() ah! youtube has "the devil glitch": www.youtube.com... |
Sat. 11/12/16 1:53pm
Dean:
Imagine having to replace a defective disk. "Enclosed please find a SASE and disk no. 257,140, which skips approximately fifteen minutes into the recording."
![]() |
![]() To go with the long songs, in a lab there's an upside down bottle of treacle that drips once every twenty years or so. |
![]() |
![]() Hi, Bill. Sorry I haven't been participating, but I have been listening. Fine show, as always. Glad you're feeling better. |
![]() |
![]() @Parq Things are good mon! Feels like a good show today. Hope yr good. |
![]() |
![]() Nick Saloman was heavily involved with the Ptelomaic Terrorscope magazine at one time. |
Sat. 11/12/16 2:00pm

![]() |
![]() I'm back! |
![]() |
![]() Bevis Frond in a cellar bar in Cardigan last year at the Fruits de Mer festival - amazing. At a Fruits de Mer festival in Germany next spring - wish I could go! |
![]() |
![]() Brian - Terrascope is still running via the fine chaps who are Ian Fraser and Phil McMullen - occasional gigs promoted, review magazines in small lovely art paper runs and they put out a nice vinyl LP set earlier in the year - Paper Leaves - well worth picking up |
![]() |
![]() *Let a little water into the backyard* poetic, if nonsensical Portuguese. |
![]() |
![]() Fran they are in Wiltshire if memory serves. Spoken to Phil years ago. They used to give away free floppy records. I remember Skoosney, Russian for boredom. |
![]() |
![]() hahah, heard you did quite a turn as Alice recently, Bill. Still looking for video. |
![]() |
![]() I should just send you the links. Wm Berger did this one... band was awesome. |

![]() |
![]() Obrogado, The Missus. |
![]() |
![]() Not sure whether this is killing Supernaut or a killing version............not what I expected, a CCS style Whole Lotta Love cover! |
![]() |
![]() I've decided - its a killer version! |
![]() |
![]() I'm glad you think so Fran. It's pretty slammin' |
![]() |
![]() Slammin' indeed |
![]() |
![]() I'd kill for sixty or seventy of Doc's jackets. |
![]() |
![]() I used to like that Brazilian band CSS Cansei de Ser Sexy. fran Tap Turns on the Water. That was Alexis Korner? |
![]() |
![]() Yep Brian Alexis was part of the CCS set up. All sorts of session and library and TV music characters involved e.g. Harold McNair, Herbie Flowers and others |
![]() |
![]() Bill got to hit the kitchen poor connections today. Great to see everyone. Stanley must be visiting relis. Gerains dropped a t. Stay cool y'all. |
![]() |

![]() |
![]() Awesome... |
![]() |
![]() Have a great evening Brian - more soon |
![]() |
![]() Another "Save the Country" that I didn't know, and it's Syreeta to boot! My god, there was so many Laura Nyro covers in the late 60s/early 70s. Almost like Randy Newman covers at the same time |
![]() |
![]() @Brian Later my man. Love to Stanley when you see him. |
![]() |
![]() How spectacular is this? Man, oh, man. |
