I think MAYBE you could condense Let It Be, Tim, and Pleased To Meet Me onto an 80 minute disc, but it would be cutting it very close. Of course, that discounts what came before and after their prime.

  Sat. 7/16/16 12:06pm Steve C:

Honestly I think MOST acts can be summed up in 80 minutes. It's harder to think of ones that would take more than one disc. NRBQ and Beach boys, I agree. Also Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Monkees, maybe XTC

@Frank: Album not great, live shows still killer. Saw Tim's latest side project tonight (a bit dull, but he gets to be a guitar hero for an hour), supported by Davey's new band (fantastic, and he does a great cover of Nick Lowe's "Heart of the City").

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 7/16/16 12:30pm Frank Above:

@Eddy I have to agree somewhat, but I've only given it one spin. Despite all the hype over being recorded here in Brooklyn at Daptone, I didn't think the songs nor the recordings were particularly great. But, again, it's only one listen. Could be a grower. The s/t from 2010 was just that. It sure ain't no Hourly Daily, or even Convicts for that matter, but I still like it. Also very jealous that you Aussies have such easy access to all Tim's doings!

What about Sonic Youth's cover of "Superstar"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 7/16/16 12:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

SonicYouth weren't about catchy tunes aimed @ a Chart - or even primarily songs, it's kinda true. (They'd get a lot of appreciation in Comment for other Programs here, I suspect.) Perhaps also they were just that unfashionable amount of time ago - not the trend now & not long enuff ago for the nostalgic...I admit I got a strong anti-populist streak - & I don't wanna know what Taylor Swift's songs are (I don't have kids either to force expose me to the Top40 or Pop of now)...

...Teenage Riot...So yeah - I guess I got the reverse opinion & I'm suspect of people who talk about stuff like Swift as 'serious' or worthy...
Sat. 7/16/16 12:35pm Eddy in Australia:

@Frank: That said, I'd rather be in NY and get to see Tim solo and/or YAI at the Mercury, on top of everything else on offer (The Muffs, tonight!).

@Eddy Fair point. Tim's solo shows at Mercury Lounge are particularly great. Unfortunately, they don't happen often enough
Avatar Sat. 7/16/16 12:36pm Michael Shelley:

HATCH - one thing that sticks with me about that song is that the point of view of the lead vocals have a bit of "can't be bothered to get excited about my own song" and when I hear that, it is hard for ME to get excited - similarly: there's barely a melody - like trying too hard is uncool
Sat. 7/16/16 12:37pm Eddy in Australia:

I question myself for loving what's clearly Pop from another era - but presuming the Contemp Pop is phony. It's the same Medium - & the same lousy Business it ever was. Altho' - Music contains infinite detail & coded signals about sounds, era, intention, styles...

@Frank: Yeah, cos he stays sober(ish) to meet his daughter after the show and we get better banter and music!

@Eddy The banter alone is worth the price of admission.

@Baby/Sheila: You Am I - Australian band with fervent following in America. Have toured with The Posies and Sloan, which might kinda give you a general idea of their music.
