Sounds great! Love the tones coming from the piano samples.

Irene Trudel:

Hi tuner fish! Glad you liked the opening number. Seems a popular one with the 'FMU crew here.

HEAVY! Heya Irene!!

Late. Was watching the men's soccer team. USA! Hi Irene!

Hi Cheri Pi and Van! you're welcome anytime.

Thx for the Beautiful, Madam T.

Hey Irene! Nice pic! Isn’t it great as you walk around modern, “artisanal” Manhattan and stumble across some real, kitschy humanity in a garden of a place not pummeled to the ground to make a luxury glass tower?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Jake! I just snapped it this afternoon as I was dropping off a package on the way home.
Avatar 9:40pm
Van in DC:

Yes indeed, Shrunken Planet is great. Never can catch it live though.
Avatar 9:45pm
Van in DC:

Any Fairport-related tributes are at once sad, sad, sad, but welcome when needed. Thanks.
Avatar 9:47pm
Van in DC:

Sandy might well be one of my 4 "Mt Rushmore" iconic voices of all time, in music.
Avatar 9:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
Irene Trudel:

I have to agree, Van. Sandy was special, and the interplay with her bandmates is stellar.
Avatar 9:54pm
Van in DC:

Just thought that a pretty good follow up song to this would be "Handsome Cabin Boy" by KaTe. Just sayin; :) (in my world)
Avatar 9:57pm
Van in DC:

But, oooh, this works pretty well too...
Avatar 10:02pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

As a guitarplayer - so much awe for Mastery of fiddle. You think it's stringed like guitar - must be similar. But it's almost the opposite: instead of as much reach as you can get - it's so tiny, you lock your hand in place. No frets of course. & bowing - that takes all the simplicity of guitar right out of the picture...That is some skill.

....and this....
Avatar 10:04pm
Van in DC:

I love virtuoso violinists.... Hilary Hahn, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, Anna Sophie Mutter, and on and on...I see them live every chance I get. What a treat! Oh, and the Sitar is no cakewalk either. Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi, is awesome.
Avatar 10:05pm
Van in DC:

Steeleye Span's new lineup has a pretty decent fiddle player chick, by the way.
Avatar 10:06pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...of course - these are absolute Masters of UK Folk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Irene Trudel:

Rev. Rabbit, what a great description. Violinists have fewer strings, and come up with such an interesting collection of sounds/tones to command. I'm a bit in awe of anyone who can master and instrument in general.
Avatar 10:08pm
Van in DC:

I do so love this set. So much. Thanks for the mini tribute Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Irene Trudel:

Gee Van, I haven't kept up with Steeleye Span. I guess Peter Knight isn't with them anymore?
Avatar 10:12pm
Van in DC:

No, he left the band about 3 years ago I think
Avatar 10:13pm
Van in DC:

When I saw them live here in DC area not that long ago, they did do a tribute song to Tim Hart though.
Avatar 10:14pm
Van in DC:

Maddy Prior still going STRONG though! Love her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Irene Trudel:

Nice! I have never seen them live. Gotta hope they do another tour.
Avatar 10:17pm
Van in DC:

That was a first for me, seeing them. It was incredible. I couldn't believe they were actually appearing here! Wasn't going to miss it!
Avatar 10:17pm

I always get nervous when an FMU dj plays a lot of the same/similar bands/musicians in the same set. 2016 has been a scourge against musicians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Gosh, thanks for the Dave Swarbrick tribute. Like NGH said, it's been a rough year. It's barely June yet.

Cool, I never get to hear your show, but tonight I'm tuned in and loving it, Irene. John White has a beautiful voice, doesn't he?

Julianna's been getting a lot of FMU love lately...well-deserved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Irene Trudel:

Yeah, NGH and Ken. It's been rough year for people of our generation passing. But let's celebrate all those who are still with us making great music-- Like Marissa and Julianna. Such lovely voices.

I've always wanted to hear Julianna Barwick, thanks!

Right on Irene, and there are so many more. One reason I miss Julie not having a regular show anymore is just that reason: She featured so many emerging artists of various genres. I think she did that incredibly well. Still get to here her occasionally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Irene Trudel:

Julie just hosted a fill-in last night for The Frow Show. It's in the archives and I need to catch up too.
Avatar 10:54pm

Ah so that's what I'm listening to in the morning then :)

By the way, Kawehi had a brand new Kickstarter to raise $9K for a new project. She reached the goal (and more) in less than 24 hours. Wow.

So if Trouble is now taking the Summer off, I hope that doesn't mean no Sharon Van Etten any more on FMU...she is so incredibly wonderful. I think I've gone through "Are We There" about 300 times now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Irene Trudel:

Oh, c'mon Van! Both Jeffrey and I play Sharon. Just not every week.
Avatar 11:32pm

Oh I know :)
Avatar 11:34pm

Right now, at this point in time, I do believe "I Don't Want to Let You Down" by Sharon is my favorite song, for a while now. It's just... Jagjaguar Epic :)
Avatar 11:37pm
Van in DC:

I do hope Sharon comes back soon from her studies. She had such a tremendous line at the NPR artist appreciation thingy not long ago here in DC: She's studying to psychology (I think) because, as she said, "I need to be certified to deal with you fans"... lol
Avatar 11:39pm
Van in DC:

psychiatry? Something like that
Avatar 11:45pm

Found it. Watch Sharon Van Etten at NPR's "All Songs Considered" here in DC. I found out about this waaaay too late to get a ticket :(
