I get you about ice cream. I worked at an ice cream parlor when I first got to A2. Funnily enough, Madonna used to work there, and had just left when I started. I learned that years later. |

![]() |
Fri. 6/3/16 10:03am
Cecile:
That's what was happening with ACME comedy club recently - they could stay, but a building was going up in their old parking lot. That's a petition I got behind. Every big comedian has played there, often secret shows when they have a free day. |
![]() |
![]() The Smell has been around for 18 years? Wow! I got to go there the last time I visited LA. Stayed right near it. The thing that surprised me about it compared to all ages DIY type venues here in New York, NO BOOZE ALOUD! None sold inside and no BYOB. If a venue was like that in NYC, no-one would go. Very young crowd though. But anyway, everyone drinks in the parking lot to the side.. like hanging out in the parking lot pounding. Quite different than NYC. |
![]() |
![]() @Marcel yeah, it's kind of beautiful though. I can only imagine if such a venue existed where I grew up as a kid. Great weirdo booking, *and* I convince my mom it's cool to let me go? Perfect. |

they usta not be as strict but they got shut down for almost a year cause of it and alot of other violations from the city in like 04 but came though it but had to be strickter on the drinking to not get shut down again. and the mexican gay bar on the corner has cheep beers too. ( they are tearing that down too :( |
![]() |
![]() Sad they're demoing it, I've only been once (for the final Captain Ahab show!) but it seemed like a great space :( |
![]() |
![]() @rbxbx: It is indeed beautiful. Just a sight to behold! @Marty: Ah! That makes sense. I figured they must have had their reasons. I just kind of rolled up thinking it would be like DBA or something and was surprised. |

why do people change the very neighborhoods that drew them there in the first place? Sure, things change, but why erase all the character. |
![]() |
![]() Digging this epic Irma. |
![]() |
![]() Cecile, because when those things drew those folks to those places, it was temporary, a whim. Once they settle down, they want what they know -- the same chain stores, fast food joints, etc. |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ |

I am just really happy the response to the ACME petition was swift and huge. The developers, ACME and City Council have a meeting schedule to come up with a new plan. |
![]() |
Fri. 6/3/16 10:31am
Marty McSorley:
city abandons. 1st come the homeless, then come the punks, then come the artists, then come the yuppies, then come the developers, then come the squares. |
![]() |
Fri. 6/3/16 10:32am

Change has to start somewhere. The kids are moving back into cities, and a lot of them don't necessarily want them sanitized. Reasonably safe, yes, but not bland. |
![]() |
![]() It seems impossible in NYC. But I admire your optimism. This track IS sick indeed. |

![]() @Marcel awesome. I do indeed. That's pretty close to my hood as well, I'm a bit further north off Bushwick. Friend was playing a house show down that way and I jog through there pretty often. |

![]() @rbxbx: Hah! Cool, we are neighbors. I looked at your profile and recognized the building. |
