Today's show will feature lots of tracks from a new 9-hour French music comp (pictured atop the playlist), plus a scattering of Tomita tracks (big thanks to Listener John D for supplying all my Tomita needs!)

Hey Tony! Thanks in advance for the Tomita trib....."Snowflakes Are Dancing" was required listening back in the day...and still is, in fact!

Hey, James! This French comp I'll be featuring today ("Rien Ni Personne") is a child of May -- it was released on May 22nd.

Snowflakes Are Dancing - a friend of mine pointed out that album contained the track 'Arabesque No 1' - which was the music for Jack Horkheimer and his Star Hustler TV show. Hi Tony, hi everyone!
Avatar 12:08pm
Tony Coulter:

@ V Priceless: Tomita will be sprinkled throughout the show, like sonic seasoning.

Dean:

As much as I loved Snowflakes, I was a real sucker for Tomita's Holst, Mussourgsky, and Stravinsky albums. The same year as "Planets" Patrick Gleeson released an electronic version. I had both, played both, but can't recall which I preferred. It'd be fun to hear them both back-to-back track-by-track (or synaurally).
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

The French stuff likewise will only be sprinkled throughout -- but enough to heavily flavor the stock.
Avatar 12:16pm

I heard Tomita's The Planets a lot. My husband and I used to call him "Tomato"

Heya, MrFab! Contempo -- but with a good smattering of experimental/industrial-type artists who've been around since the '80s.

Had a wonderful fritatta (well, a tortilla) yesterday at a pot luck.

I'm thinking a "secret" for deviled eggs might be Worcestshire-related...
Avatar 12:44pm

So, I don't normally shill for labels and push specific releases on you, but, still, I should mention this: "Rien Ni Personne," in all its 9-hour glory, is available for free (name your price) on bandcamp: nostalgiedelaboue.bandcamp.com...

Spanish smoked paprika is nice. Not a typical "smoked" flavor. Subtle and rich. Deep carmine color, too.
Avatar 12:48pm

Dean, I do put that in there, but that is not the X factor. Same with the paprika.
Avatar 12:50pm

Avatar 12:52pm

I don't know, but my dad used to go to a cloister of a (mostly) silent order of nuns every year for their annual reception, and the only cake they would serve would be angel food.
  12:52pm
Dean:

Yeth, βrian. Lo thiento, thee.

Capers? (I know. It is and shall remain a secret.)
Avatar 12:53pm

If there were capers, olives, and anchovies, you'd have a devilled puttanesca.
Avatar 12:55pm
βrian:

I'll put Squid brand fish sauce in near anything, though I won't admit its presence.
  12:56pm
MrFab:

Wow, Beat Happening. Hello, 80s college rock! That caused a bit of a flashback: Do I have any papers due tomorrow?
  12:57pm
Dean:

I slipped two or three anchovies (and capers!) into the marinade for the butcher steak I grilled yesterday. Wife had no idea, and the steak was superb. Now I have to figure out ways to use the rest of the anchovies in the jar. A Bolognese, for sure. Hmmm, maybe deviled eggs?
Avatar 12:58pm
βrian:

Perhaps a pissaladière, Dean?
Avatar 1:01pm
Cecile:

that would work. Worchestershire sauce is anchovy based so it makes sense.
  1:01pm
Dean:

I'd love it but nobody else in the house would. I wake up mornings craving pasta with anchovies and olives. One of the very best dishes I've had over the years in otherwise overrated Bay Area restaurants is Cesar's "matrimonios," grilled anchovies served on toasts with aioli. Luscious.
  1:03pm
Dean:

I put Worcestshire in my mac 'n' cheese, and once I had to apologize that as a result it wasn't quite vegetarian. Not sure I'd put anchovies in it, though.
Avatar 1:04pm
northguineahills:

Making anchovy sauces w/ capers, smoked ground chillies (+ other ingredients) w/ pasta is one of my favorite things to make. Asian fish sauces and Worcestershire figure prominently in many dishes as well.
Avatar 1:06pm
βrian:

Sumac might be a nice surprise on devilled eggs. Nice color and a pleasant sourness.
Avatar 1:06pm

Yma Sumac on deviled eggs? Not sure if I'd like that.
Avatar 1:10pm
