Hey, Gaylord. I just made it.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:14pm Gaylord Fields:

Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:14pm Gaylord Fields:

Hiya, Sem Chumbo!
  Sun. 5/15/16 5:15pm P-90:

Gaylord, I feel like you just might understand, a litlle, that in this terrible season in which we've lost so many familiar and beloved performers, the passing of actor William Schallert is proving to be a real hard one for me. I mean real hard. I'm not being cutesy or facetious. Not to lay too much of a bummer on your comments board, I hope...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:16pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: I'm a very sympathetic person as a genuine Wm. Schallert fan myself.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:19pm redkayak:

Good evening all :)

Good, good day to you, redkayak!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:21pm Gaylord Fields:

Glad you dropped by, Uncle Michael!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:22pm Uncle Michael:

I'm here for the post-baseball salve.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:22pm redkayak:

@gaylord TY sir!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:24pm Uncle Michael:

Gaylord's show is a tonic.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: Aw, shucks!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:32pm geezerette:

P-90 and Gaylord: Didn't know about the passing of William Schallert. Want you to know he was a loved and respected president of the Screen Actors Guild and by all accounts as kind and gentle as he appeared to be.
Sun. 5/15/16 5:33pm famous original icecreamwolf:

gaylord you are the perfect accompaniment to mango Italian ice and banana soft serve
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:35pm geezerette:

...and that Anna Homler's visual work is as beautiful and mysterious as her music.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:36pm Gaylord Fields:

@famous original icecreamwolf: I had a banana Italian ice in Queens on Friday, post-Ramones exhibition. That's close.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:39pm Adrian in London:

Just tuning in. That Anna Homler track sounded intriguing. Think someone else played it this week too. Must investigate further.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:40pm Sem Chumbo:

Such a spare arrangement, so elegant.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:41pm Gaylord Fields:

Welcome, Adrian in London! I'm very pleased there's new Anna Homler to share.
  Sun. 5/15/16 5:41pm P-90:

re: Ramones Exhibition. Thumbs up?
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:41pm JakeGould:

@Gaylord: How were the old, unwashed t-shirts they hung on a wall at that exhibition? Also, I want a rainbow ice now.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: They didn't smell, if that's what you mean. And what a shame they didn't.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 5:43pm Adrian in London:

@Gaylord Ah, just looked her up. Breadwoman. She played London a couple of months ago, that's how I know about her. Sounds good.

  Sun. 5/15/16 5:51pm bill:

@Chop Scott: Thanks for staying up for this! See you stateside soon!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:11pm Scraps deSelby:

But I mostly wear gray anyway. (Because mostly I have color badness -- male, but even worse.) Also, I like gray. Or grey, either way.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:11pm geezerette:

hey melinda.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:15pm Scraps deSelby:

And I have a dead brain mass -- stroke, and they can't dig it out; too deep. Kinda weird, knowing it's there.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:16pm JakeGould:

My mom suffered tons of small strokes in her (quite hard) life until one final stroke was literally that. She was still fairly lucid prior to the final stroke so the brain’s resiliency is pretty amazing… But don’t delay treatment!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:17pm JakeGould:

FWIW, “World Goth Day” is the 22nd. twitter.com...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@Scraps deSelby: I'm happy that WFMU can be part of your recovery.

Have you heard the Monochrome Set's "Hidden Coils" LP from about five years ago? It's all about Bid's recovery from a stroke, and is bloody brilliant!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:20pm JakeGould:

WFMU is good people.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mr C: I myself was introduced to Barbara Lewis via the airwaves of WWRL 1600 AM.
  Sun. 5/15/16 6:23pm Mr C:

My reference was to Andy Williams. WIP was the adult station my mother listened to.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mr C: Aha! I like the adult music myself, as somehow I turned into an adult myself without my noticing.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:26pm Scraps deSelby:

Gaylord: I have that! I love the Monochrome Set, even before I knew that.

I'm very interested in young stroke victims (of course), and there are several musicians: Chris Knox, Tim Smith (of the Cardiacs), Edwyn Collins...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:27pm JakeGould:

@Scraps: Aubrey Plaza (comedian, actor, etc…) had a stroke when she was 21. www.theguardian.com...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:27pm Scraps deSelby:

Didn't know that!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:28pm Gaylord Fields:

Many of them have created great work about their strokes.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The word now is that Music uses more parts of the brain @ once than perhaps any other activity. You would almost think the stuff was not totally ephemeral & insignificant...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:30pm Scraps deSelby:

Once you had it, it becomes the basic thing in your life (well, in my case, anyway)
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:31pm katie:

Choo Choo Train!!!!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:31pm JakeGould:

Also—not connected to strokes or tumors—but I know someone who worked a trauma emergency room and noticed a real weird pattern in men suffering concussions: She saw tons of men who got drunk, slipped on something and conked their head… While they recovered the family and friends of the person who conked their head all said a similar thing: “He’s nicer and less of a jerk since the accident.” Same person but it’s like with certain people a conk to the head makes them less jerks?
  Sun. 5/15/16 6:32pm Mr C:

Adult stations went the way of adults..
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:32pm Gaylord Fields:

Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:33pm katie:

A Sunday night regular as you know, especially when rewarded with Briar Rose!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:33pm JakeGould:

@MrC: Now they are all MCOR (Man Child Oriented Radio) or DBOR (Dude Bro Oriented Radio). Perfect tunes for a man cave! Gotta get the Bluetooth in the mancave!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The 1st time I saw the term 'Adult Alternative' it certainly gave me pause...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:35pm Scraps deSelby:

I was not a musician (even though music is my life; I don't know how that works; probably laziness, or to be kind with me, ADD). But I was a copy editor and proofreader and writer, and my stroke attacked my basic language skills -- that was horrible. Well.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@katie: I'm always elated when I know you're listening!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:36pm JakeGould:

@ScrapsdeSelby: Sorry to hear that.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:36pm Webhamster Henry:

What a cool jazzy, kind of inappropriate Yesterday, Gaylord!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yesterday was the William Schallert Memorial Playlist on Rex's show: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:38pm Scraps deSelby:

This set is great!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Scraps: You're still quite articulate - & pleasant to 'have around' as well. Much admiration - & all power to you.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@Webhamster Henry: I like that it disregarded so many of the things that makes Yesterday Yesterday.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ken From Hyde Park: As well it should have been!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:39pm Scraps deSelby:

Thank you, RevRabbit.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & yet - it is about Sir Macca being a melodic genius...hm. It shouldn't work but it does. It's probably the most covered song of all time for more reasons than the sentiment...
  Sun. 5/15/16 6:40pm P-90:

One of the grooviest classic TV themes!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:40pm melinda:

Scraps that sounds devastating, I'm sorry. Also, I don't think it's weird that music is your life w/out being a musician. Speaking for myself, I think I'm wired to appreciate it and not to play it.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: That and many great Sixties TV soundtracks were written in unusual time signatures (Ben Casey, Room 222, and Mission: Impossible, most famously).
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:43pm Webhamster Henry:

I do a bit where I sing the words to Yesterday with the tune of Macca's Tomorrow.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...uh-oh - 'Yesterday' rabbithole...the song is about choosing to live in an optimism that's gone & how one relates to that - & somehow speaks for the whole era metaphorically, a lot like 'Pet Sounds' loss of innocence does, if not the whole Beach Boys thang...well - not enuff flashlight to go down there...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...course - John & Paul were married by the loss of their Mums ; the counterbalance of Working Class Blues - & Mod Affirmation (YeahYeahYeah!) in the Beatles is...a thing...
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:51pm Scraps deSelby:

Thank you, melinda. You're probably right about wired to appreciate. It's true that I didn't really want to play music until I suddenly had it taken away as a possibility. (Though I'm thinking about trying doing this as my iPad as an instrument....)
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:53pm Monica:

gaylord is a master of oddball time signatures!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:54pm Scraps deSelby:

Oddball time signatures are the best time signatures!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@Monica: Darling dearest!
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:55pm Gaylord Fields:

Ending in a 3/4, however.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:56pm geezerette:

Everyone here knocks me out. Great conversations and kindness.

Gaylord, at some point in every show I find myself in an unknown Louis Malle or Truffaut film. Thank you!

Wishing all of us a happy week. :D
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 6:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My paternal grandfather had a stroke at age 84 or so. Maybe it was just a minor one; I don't recall him having ill effects. He lived to age 95 and had a clear mind all the way to the end.
  Sun. 5/15/16 6:58pm P-90:

Thanks, Gaylord. Fine work, and great company, as always.
Avatar Sun. 5/15/16 7:00pm Scraps deSelby:
