Good morning, Bob. Excellent start! This LP, if memory serves, is one of those whose mono

Why did I think Lonnie Mack died years ago?
I did get to see him on a bill with Roy Buchanan and Albert Collins.
And, oh yeah, I hope Page loses that lawsuit. The dude's the most prolific plagiarizer in rock and roll.

Fats!
  9:22am 1whoknewcthulhu:

And now, for something completely different . . .
  9:24am RHenderson:

What I'd meant to say earlier — the phone app cuts off comments, as it turns out — is that 'Spirit' is maybe one of those mid-'60s LP's that sounds a bit different in its respective mono & stereo versions.
  9:25am Stuart Rose:

Bob playing rockabilly- a little unexpected, very appreciated.

Page really committed theft with Dazed and Confused. Stairway uses Randy's guitar figure but not as the melody of the song.
  9:28am Dave M:

Happy birthday, Bob!

Happy Birthday Bob Brainen and Charles Mingus!

Happy Birthday, Bob.

Tjader played on some very early Mingus sides too.

Can the dead sue the living? I hope not. Of course, there will always be a long line of lawyers willing to take the case and try.

Is today your Big Day, Bob? Turns out you share it with Roy Orbison, not bad...

It's been 30 years, and I still miss Richard Manuel.

Gotta play Birdman someday Bob.

really like the rhythm section and vocal sound of this M&G song, great album

♉Taurus is the Fixed Earth sign - about accumulating Material for survival after birth (which is ♈Aries the 1st & previous sign & the technical beginning of Spring). It links the brain & body - correlates to perhaps the Earth itself - & has natural understanding of Forms.

Happy Happy bb!
  9:54am RHenderson:

'McDonald & Giles' was one of those albums with no info on the outside of the jacket, save for the title, a trendy, cooler-than-thou gesture at the time. But it did have that cool color infrared photography, so I bought it anyways, glad I did.
  9:55am 1whoknewcthulhu:

Pre-prog-rock Moody Blues!
Avatar 9:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yes - between - ? - their early R&B ballad phase (? - 'Go Now') - & their Psych-ProtoProg phase (Moodys being the perfect example of the transition from Psych to Prog?...& who says Psych/Prog are always about screaming horrors anyway? Love Moodys...)

Can't believe that Runt is nearly half a century old.
Avatar 10:18am Scraps deSelby:

I know it's a cliché for favorite Rundgren, but "Hello It's Me" is just so good
  10:19am Jeff:

Talk about missing someone-Laura Nyro, why did you leave us so soon?
  10:19am RHenderson:

This is def. my favorite Todd lp, but perhaps you played my favorite Todd tune the other week, that being "Long Flowing Robe." Still, this is the best example of the sweetness that Rundgren's voice still possessed early in his solo career. After the 'Todd' double lp that quality became increasingly scarce.
Avatar 10:20am Scraps deSelby:

If I can't pick a single, then maybe "Piss Aaron"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am melinda:

I love Gonna Take a Miracle. Nice to hear.

Todd was very much influenced by Laura Nyro
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Parq:

Did she write that?
Avatar 10:24am Scraps deSelby:

My beloved late wife turned me on to Laura Nyro. 13 Confession is my favorite, but Velma liked New York Tendeberry, even using that as her internet name, etc

Eric Dolphy!
My personal choice for MVP in jazz.
So unknown by so many, but so appreciated by his peers; except for Miles Davis who dissed him in a Downbeat blindfold test. Fuck you, Miles!
Avatar 10:29am BEAVO:

Too bad she mistakenly thought people were laughing at her at Monterey. I crushed her. Wish they would release the film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am melinda:

I'm not having any problems here.
  10:31am Jeff:

All good here, Bob
  10:32am 1whoknewcthulhu:

Everything A-OK on this side, Bob.
  10:35am Stuart Rose:

Yeah, Beavo.
Laura- God rest her soul- probably wasn't made for playing such a huge outdoor festival. But I'm not sure I have the whole story. Why was she convinced people were laughing at her?
Avatar 10:40am BEAVO:

Apparently nobody else who was there knows. According to the documentry I saw. She was real insecure about her performance. Which was great in the clip I saw of Wedding Bell Blues.
  10:44am Stuart Rose:

She was real young than, wasn't she?
Monterey was '67,right?

Such soulful eyes.
  10:48am Jeff:

A friend of mine went to sleep away camp in the early '60s.
Laura Nyro was a camp counselor there and used to play her guitar and sing to the kids.
This same friend of mine's dad owned Gem Spa in the '60s and '70s. Right across from Fillmore East. Everyone hung out there!
  10:50am Jeff:

This tune shows Laura's influence on Carole King.
Typically, Carole served as an influence to Laura.
  10:52am Greg from ZONE 5:

<gasp!> Happy Birthday, Bob!
  10:53am Stuart Rose:

I imagine Laura soothed the emotions of any homesick little kids.

Happy Birthday and thanks for the soundtrack to my Saturday mornings, Bob. Never less than excellent.

Bob, I love your show and listen faithfully every week. But, not one Prince tune? I don't understand. Happy Birthday!
