Big Brother went to a Chicago studio to record their 1st album. They never got paid for it. Janis sounded great here. After '67, her voice was kind of shot.
Avatar 4:19pm Mailman Tom:

We had a front row seat when Slim Harpo opened for Sly Stone in Central Park back in '70
  4:26pm 30 Ate & counting:

Sunday is THE great day on here.
  4:28pm fact checker:

Slim Harpo died January 1970 says wiki, Tom
Avatar 4:34pm Mailman Tom:

It was probably in '68 or '69 that we saw them perform. It was a summer afternoon, and we drove down from Connecticut.
  4:41pm fact checker:

This reference turns up:
"Sly and the Family Stone appeared at the Schaefer Central Park Music Festival (July 28, 1969), he was called back for four encores by 5,000 ecstatic fans" - Billboard p. 24 August 16, 1969. I 've seen Billboard archived online - post if find it
Avatar 4:44pm Mailman Tom:

Yes, that was the date! The encores were for Sly Stone, not for Slim Harpo, who got almost no applause from the unappreciative crowd.
Avatar 4:46pm Mailman Tom:

We saw Spirit perform at the Fillmore East in March 1969. Ainsley Dunbar and Creedence were on the same bill.
Avatar 4:50pm Mailman Tom:

One of Buddy's best. "Midnight Shift" is too!
  4:59pm fact checker:

all I see Billboard p. 24 August 16, 1969 is Santana and Jefferson Airplane playing Central Park Sheep Meadow, free

Alternative Ulster !!!! Woo- Hoo! We L-U-V the Ramones!!!
  5:06pm fact checker:

that page, under "Signings":
"Dave Allen of Texas joined International Records"
  5:11pm fact checker:

No, today's Davie Allen is from CA
  5:28pm fact checker:

Wikipedia "Schaefer Music Festival" entry gives July 26, 1969 for Slim Harpo opening for Sly and the Family Stone. What line-ups! Never knew this was going on.

  5:40pm fact checker:

Mailman Tom's Fillmore East show ran March 21-22, 1969 says
http://www.fillmore-east.com/showlist.html
  6:40pm Al:

@fact checker: That must be International Artists Records, a Texas label that recorded Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators. They had a Dave Allen on their roster.
