Do we get an all pre-war show, Joe? Because that would be EXCELLENT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 9:07am Uncle Michael:

I guess 1942 isn't pre-war...but it's pre-post-war.

Deustche Welle! We used to get that on cable access in English in the 90s! We'd see the top ten videos and it would be Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and a whole bunch of German language soul ballads set in bunkers with blood running down the walls or something. I think the host was named Ingo or Dieter or something.

what year did it come out? Sounds like early 70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 10:22am JP from KC:

Buster Brown sounds like a combination of Bob Seeger and Rod Stewart.

This is so funny - it's never before this even occurred to me that there might have been singles pressed of "The Lonely Bull" - it's just indelibly imprinted in my mind as a track from that 12-inch album.

Happy to be back listening live today!
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 10:45am Joe McG:

@Jeff: This is a pretty early A&M single: It's biege and it says "1005" (probably the label's 5th single).

@βrian, I was thinking the same thing. I saw the 4:30 showing yesterday, though; it was interesting and good. Of course to fully capture the awesomeness of WFMU it would have had to have been a week-long movie, depicting each of the shows in their entirety (plus the web shows). ;)

  Mon. 4/4/16 11:13am Polyus:

@Cecile - June 8, I believe. Not even on the Trylon website as of last Friday though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:14am Cecile:

Cool. I haven't been to the Trylon before, I'll have to do a recon expedition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:14am MD:

THE X....I think I am Going to name my next band THE Led Zeppelin!!!
I just had to get that off my chest....!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:14am Brian in UK:

Joe, saw him with Mulatu Astatke some years ago. What a wealth of Ethiopian jazz.
A sad day.
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:15am Polyus:

It is pretty cool, but small. 50 seats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:15am MD:

I'm Becoming a Cranky old Man...OK!!!! SORRY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:16am Greg from ZONE 5:

One of my most favoritist bands ever. I missed the Lincoln Center show but I remember listening to the live stream at work…
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:16am Joe McG:

@MD: No problem, I was there way before you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:17am Brian in UK:

Cranky and Freeform do not equate, Captain.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:18am Joe McG:

By the way, everyone, seeing Greg on the comments board reminds me that we saw "Battleship Potemkin" at FMU on Saturday and it was great. If you get the chance, go check out Morricone Youth play a live soundtrack!
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:18am Marc Francis:

Hot damn. I wish I had a time machine.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:19am Marc Francis:

I would love to be at this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:20am Uncle Michael:

That was amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:21am Brian in UK:

Would it be fair to say that The Ex play their music feverishly.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:22am βrian:

Ah, there we go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:22am Greg from ZONE 5:

Joe ain't lying! Easily one of the most mind-blowing things I've seen at Monty Hall.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:24am Joe McG:

And Greg's seen a lot of stuff at Monty Hall, right, Greg?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:26am Greg from ZONE 5:

Everything except HONK 1.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:26am Marcel M:

Yeah it was really really good. I was entranced the whole time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:26am Michael in Seattle:

Thank you for this Barbieri track.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:27am Joe McG:

@Greg: Unfortunately, HONK 1 was the BEST THING I'VE EVER BEEN TO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:28am Cecile:

this is a great track! Thank you joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:28am Parq:

Loved how, in yesterday's Good Grey obit, they helpfully explained that Gato "means 'cat'". They didn't specifically add "in Spanish". I hope that doesn't confuse readers into thinking that Gato means cat in Brazilian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:28am Greg from ZONE 5:

HOOOOOOONK!!! <shaking fist>

Occasionally I'd lock in on the band, but nothing was more satisfying than when you'd get pulled into the movie and forget that the band was even there. Sort of a bizarro live music experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:29am Marcel M:

Or at least, any more than confusing people here that Brazilian is a language? -)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:29am Marcel M:

;-)
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:30am βrian:

He was Argentinian, no?
Unrelated but, oddly, related:

I once drunkenly referred to somebody "speaking Austrian" at a party. I'm still embarrassed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:34am Marcel M:

@Greg/Parq: I said Brazilian until I became very close with a Brazilian dude. It happens!
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:34am Dean:

You meant Australian, right, Greg?
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:34am βrian:

@Dean: you beat me to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:37am Parq:

You guys know the old political joke -- an aide reports to Bush that two Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq. Bush says, "That's horrible -- how many is a brazilian"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:38am ChrisB.:

@Parq: No, but, HA!
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:38am Joe McG:

@Parq: Ha ha!
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:39am Dean:

Didn't know that one, Parq! How charitable of you to characterize it as a "political" joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:39am Cecile:

thunderclap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:39am Cecile:

that album is all good
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:40am ChrisB.:

Joe, you may have to create a segment of the show called "The Passing Parade."
Avatar    Mon. 4/4/16 11:41am V Priceless:

yeah, T-clap...nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:41am Parq:

Dean -- well, of course, Republicans immediately repurposed it as a Clinton joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:41am ChrisB.:

Doesn't Pete Townsend play bass on this record?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:41am Cecile:

I know he produced it
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:42am Joe McG:

@ChrisB: Yeah, The Croaked Corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:42am Marcel M:

@Parq: hahahah, thats great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:42am Parq:

Really, it's actually pretty adaptable. EG -- an aide approaches Osama Bin Laden and says, "Glorious news, oh mighty righteous one; two Brazilian soldiers --- "
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/4/16 11:44am Brian in UK:

Wilomena is plump and round, plump and round.
Now Joe that is almost a slow polka care of Andy Newman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:45am northguineahills:

Crap, had no idea Gato Barbieri died.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:47am Kelly Jones:

Good morning to my favorite Monday Morning Suicide Prevention Program.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:49am Joe McG:

Hi, Kelly! I'm not so sure I am, after playing that "Accidents" song! :)
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:49am suea:

But IS he to blame???!!! i need to know. I have invested too much time in that song to not know.
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:49am Dean:

A meta-joke: That Brazilian joke is funny when it's about Bush, but NOT when it's about Clinton!
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:51am Joe McG:

@suea: Life's just a game, fly your paper plane! :)
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:54am βrian:

@Dean: Yes, because it's implausible.
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:55am Joe McG:

Thanks for listening and commenting, everyone! Have a great week!

Thanks much, Joe! This song is weird!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/4/16 11:56am Cecile:

you, too, Joe!
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:57am βrian:

Noon already? That's unpossible!
  Mon. 4/4/16 11:57am P-90:

Thanks, DJ Joe McG
Avatar Mon. 4/4/16 11:58am Kelly Jones:

I love "We Let the Stars Go"... I can't figure out if you're being ironic. My love for it is NOT ironic.
