![]() My computer decided to install updates and shut down for half an hour for the end of Mac and the start of this show, so now I'm utterly confused by the "other Dusty" and "quite a grand prize" comments... With time, I'm hoping to catch up. |

Tue. 3/8/16 10:03pm
JakeGould:
@MattfromSpringfield: Hey! You are good people. Have you ever volunteered for the marathon? I know you’re not nearby, but I did this past weekend and I will do so again the weekend after this one. |
![]() |
![]() Irene and Meghan are a great combo! It's a good day when they're on the radio! |
![]() |
![]() Similarly with emergencies, I hope Julie's wasn't too severe! My thoughts go out to you. @Meghan: You are missed my friend! @Van: WHOA! Must have been a pleasant surprise to her! |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: Next time I go to NYC I def want to stop by the Magic Factory. Hopefully I'll come some March and volunteer then! If not Marathon time, at least take the PATH and stop by some enchanted Wednesday/Thursday and help stuff envelopes! :) |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:07pm
JakeGould:
@MattfromSpringfield: Everyone needs to experience the weird PATH train loop on the weekends that stops in Hoboken after going backwards at least once in your life. Not kidding. It’s the best! |
![]() |
![]() And Irene...I've seen your avatar for a while but never asked about it. Always assumed it was old stock imagery of a girl wearing radio headphones (pre-transistor). Now with today's photo, I can tell that was your own Mom!! So awesome! So vintage! :D |
![]() |
![]() Nick Cave, a Meghan choice? :) |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:09pm
P-90:
Heil Herr Matt von Schprungfeldt! Be sure and give me a heads-up whenever you do plan to visit the area.
![]() |
![]() 8 CD set of Nick Cave CD's as the grand prize.... $75 puts you in the running for the grand prize! And not only do you get to be in the running for grand prize, but you automatically get Irene's premium- The Path is Paved with Players |
![]() |
![]() Yes, Matt, my avatar is indeed a picture of my mom, aged about 1 1/2. It's one of my favorite images ever! |
![]() |
![]() Hey P-90! I'll make sure to inform you! (And get to the bottom of this...who are you?! You don't even have an avatar!!!...) |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:13pm
JakeGould:
@P-90: Do you volunteer? Don’t you live in the West Village? PATH train ride to NJ is a few blocks away, right? |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:13pm
JakeGould:
@Irene: Belated response, but your mom in your grandpa’s lap with the headsets? DAMN! PERFECT! |
![]() |
![]() Wonderful, Irene! And it foreshadows your own heavy contributions to radio :) |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:15pm
Van in DC:
okay, THIS is the Warren album I was referring to earlier as being really goooooood. |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:17pm
Van in DC:
Oh, hey, Irene, I have an extra "Ambassador copy" of the very latest Jane Siberry album. Shall I send it along to FMU? |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:18pm
Van in DC:
<--- archive beast :) |
![]() |
![]() This Warren track is lovely. Irene has such excellent taste! Please support her show! |
![]() |
![]() The Archives alone are worth a pledge! (And the phone app! Once I got my smartphone I've listened on the go a number of times!) |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:21pm
P-90:
@Jake: I've visited on occasion (I'll be there when Hearty comes) but haven't yet been able to volunteer; by the time I figured out how to make it work with my schedule last year, Scott told me he was full. This year I hoped to make it work but couldn't. Next year should be easier. I'd actually like to bring a friend and cook a meal or two for the horde...
![]() |
![]() The WFMU app is the only one I use. But WFMU is so good that I even listened sans app for a while. |
![]() |
![]() we ALWAYS need people cooking, p-90! |
![]() |
![]() Yes, WFMU was early on, streaming on satellite, then internet streaming, was the first to get streaming on an iPhone (using a sneaky trick), and I wrote the first iPhone apps for WFMU and JM/AM. Later ones were not written by me, but are still worthy! |
![]() |
![]() How tragic, volunteers are TOO FULL! But you've got the right idea with bringing food--that, I understand, is ALWAYS welcome! |
![]() |
![]() Google has told me it is International Women's Day! (And OMG Laurie Anderson!!!) |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:27pm
Van in DC:
Becca is another good one. I've been able to donate time to WETA, classical music here in DC area, as they are just up the street from me, really. They are also completely listener supported, no commercials. |
![]() |
![]() she sounds a little like the girl from Professor and Mary Ann remember them? |

![]() |
![]() Hello all you lovelies! |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:39pm
P-90:
@Matt: funny thing, last year there seemed to be a lot if folks who wanted to volunteer, Scott sounded buried with requests to volunteer by about a week and a half before showtime. This year I noticed the air staff asking for help right up until last Friday or so. You should plan yourself a trip next March, bring an apron, I'll show you how to do lasagne or burritos for a radio station full of hungry freeformers. Or maybe we could do a nice Lobster Thermidor aux crevettes with a Mornay sauce, garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and a fried egg on top, and Spam.
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:39pm
Van in DC:
oh wow, thanks Mary! |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:39pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:
Hey Van, 3.38 am here, yes but worth it to make my pledge
![]() |
![]() @P-90: "Lasagne" with an -e? I just *might* w/ that kind of expertise! :) As long as we can make Spam Spam lobster thermidor with Spam Egg Spam Spam Spam and Spam.. |

Listener Robert:
Doesn't WFMU employ volunteers year-round for premium fulfillment? Or is that farmed out now?
![]() |
![]() I saw Becca Stevens last year at a great show across the street from me. She has a great act! |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:42pm
KP:
Hey, that said Irene AND Meghan. Darn iPhones!
![]() |
![]() Hi KP, Mary Wing, Sean, Carmichael, jon, Robert and Henry! Sean, hope you're getting SOME sleep! Listener Robert, we never farm out mailing swag at WFMU. It's all done in house. After the big mailings Tony B takes care of mailings off-season. |

Thanks for the explanation, Ms. Trudel. But for those who feel left out, isn't there still at least occasional need for "unskilled" volunteer help in the "off season"?
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:54pm
Mary Wing:
How was Jane's show, Van? I missed her when she was in town, and was bummed out about it. Did she do just new stuff? |
![]() |
![]() These middle-of-the-night shows (my time) really feel intimate, what with the volume being hardly audible and me craned over the laptop speakers, so as not to wake the neighbours. |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 10:56pm
Van in DC:
@Mary, yes mostly new stuff, and frankly I didn't know a lot of it. Definitely nothing from the really early years. It was not an inspired performance, sad to say. She seemed...off. She was a little off musically, wrong notes and such. But it was a very small venue, and I had the feeling she was catching up on being really, really tired or something. |
![]() |
![]() ALL RIGHT! Thanks Irene! The Becca Stevens is a new treat for me! :D |
![]() |
Tue. 3/8/16 11:00pm
Mary Wing:
Ah, that's was I was afraid of. I got a download of Jane's new album since I was in on the Kickstarter campaign, but truthfully I wasn't been blown away by her last few live performances; especially during her "Issa" period, heh. |
![]() |
![]() @listener robert: Plenty of various tasks from helping at the record fair, Monty Hall events...help is always needed! |
Tue. 3/8/16 11:02pm
P-90:
Congrats, Matt! | |

Tue. 3/8/16 11:02pm

![]() @Sean: Your pledge is credited to Irene's show. I would wait a few days to see if you get a confirmation e-mail and then contact Joe McGasko at Listener Services who can help you figuring out the status of your pledge. |

I found a kink in the system earlier today, pledging on archive to a show from this morning (Hi Sasha, great show!) and my pledge went to the live show on air at the time. Grr. Got it straightened out. |
