Had to say say thank you for starting the show with Berio. One of my favorites and his work not heard nearly enough on radio or in concerts.

JakeGould:

I was going to do “Dog or Frog” on “Dr. Gameshow” but mine would be about a kid who has to dissect a frog for science class, decides to let the frog live, and together to go on an adventure across where they run into dogs and learn about anatomy—since the kid was in a science class right—through roadkill. After the journey the kid becomes a scientist, kisses the frog and it becomes a person!

Dan Bodah:

Yes, Berio is wonderful -- and he wrote that specifically for Cathy Berberian

Stoned out of my mind in High School - supposed to very carefully whittle away frog skull to reveal brain: teacher just looks @ me & says 'all I can say is you better do it very very carefully'...I don't believe it happened...Hey teachers - leave them frogs alone...

Someone sent to a Facebook page that I operate a Facebook video of a style of singing I wasn't aware of. I wanted to forward the video to Mr. Bodah, but couldn't see a way to link directly to it. It's called kulning, ancient Swedish herding call. I'll continue to look for ways to relay this.
Avatar 7:15pm
Linda Lee:

@Listener Robert ~ maybe email the link?
  7:15pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: Just post the link to the video here. Sometimes the videos on Facebook are viewable without login.

@glenn~ truly magnificent cat gif!

Listener Robert:

OK, Jake, here's the link from the person who sent the video:

www.facebook.com...

That way it's isolated on the page, as opposed to Jonna Jinton's page where it came from.
  7:20pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: Eh, the link does work but it seems like Facebook permissions prevent us non-group members from viewing. Check the captions/comments beneath the video. Sometimes there is a YouTube link there since that’s how some people post links.

Cliff:

I took an advanced bio class in high school, we had 4 dissection projects: a giant earthworm, a giant grasshopper, a live frog (ok, technically that one's a vivisection), and a fetal pig. I was the only one in the class who had to redo the pig dissection, because when I opened up the first one I couldn't find the liver, and there were chunks of red and blue latex and also some mysterious brown chunks all throughout the abdominal cavity. Showed it to the teacher, she said, "Hmmm, they must have pumped in too much latex in the arteries and veins and blew up the liver inside in the process. Well, good job otherwise, but unfortunately you need to do another one with an intact liver so you can see where it's supposed to be."

I haven't eaten very many hot dogs since then.
  7:21pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRober: Maybe this one? youtu.be...
  7:23pm
Listener Robert:

Thanks so much, Jake, you found it. It wasn't identified on the Facebook page as being hosted by YouTube; I think it was uploaded to separate hosts.
  7:24pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: You’re welcome! I found it by just doing a Google search for “kulning, ancient Swedish herding call.” And that’s that!

RevRabbit: did you manage to fish out the lens from the frog's eye? It's a small gelatinous sphere and when it dries out it looks and feels like a clear marble.

@Cliff: No distinct memory.

Ah right, as you'd mentioned before you were pretty blazed in those years
  7:44pm
Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

I'm remnants of a man too!!
  7:47pm
Cliff:

Well most of us in that class kept our fish eye's lenses, and carried them around in our pockets for the rest of the semester as a mark of pride. Though thinking back on it now it all seems a bit barbaric to me :/
