Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I really like this opening track. It's haunting.
Sun. 1/31/16 5:09pm nitty gritty Tania:

Tuning in from the highway hiya Gaylord!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:09pm BadGuyZero:

This must have been a very serious episode of "Love American Style."
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:10pm dale:

ola gaylord and fieldians. yes, this is a somber las piece
  Sun. 1/31/16 5:10pm Mr C:

Quick hello from the West Coast Fan Club..
Sun. 1/31/16 5:11pm nitty gritty Tania:

A very special LAS
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:11pm dale:

maybe this one was called 'love and the lonely swinger'
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:11pm @sugarwolf@:

"Charles Fox's delicate yet hip music score, featuring flutes, harp, and flugelhorn set to a contemporary pop beat, provided the "love" ambiance which tied the stories together as a multifaceted romantic comedy each week."
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:12pm redkayak:

Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:12pm Gaylord Fields:

I think the episode was titled "Love and the Baby Shoes for Sale."
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:13pm dale:

that rascal stuart margolin was one of the players.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:14pm glenn:

huh. no wonder i thought it sounded like love american style. it is/was.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:16pm Gaylord Fields:

Greetings also to @nitty gritty Tania @dale @Ken From Hyde park @MrC @redkayak @glenn
  Sun. 1/31/16 5:17pm P-90:

Hi Gaylord. Impossible to understand Bob Crewe's musical evolution without understanding Charles Fox's and how they intersected and synergized.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: Stuart "Angel" Margolin also wrote songs for The Parade of "Sunshine Girl" fame. Perhaps I'll play one during this set, inspired by the connection.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@nitty gritty Tania: Remember — 9 and 3, not 10 and 2!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:20pm Mark the Sardine:

Loving this guitar piece.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:22pm redkayak:

When I was in grade school LAS was seen as kind of racy. Times have changed, lol...
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: I'm a fan of both men, and I'm always happy to champion Charles Fox.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:26pm dale:

i had to look that up. ashamed to say i never heard of it. that 'sunshine girl'compilation cd sounds interesting.
  Sun. 1/31/16 5:27pm P-90:

LAS was an unusual show for the number of segments that had their own individual scores. Most series at that time relied on a library of cues that would be reedited and reused in many episodes. Fox's constant supply of new scores was a big part of the show's "identity" with audiences. His stuff sounded "hip" (or at least, "contemporary") to the young demographic, but not too "rock" to alienate older potential viewers.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:31pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mark the Sardine: It was lovely, wasn't it?
  Sun. 1/31/16 5:32pm P-90:

Lindsey always sounds exactly like Lindsey and no one else.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:36pm soup and fog:

Thanks for your show Gaylord! your music is making me feel better
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@soup and fog: I'm happy to know I can help.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Given the supersaturated ubiquity of the Gee-tar - it's an accomplishment to sound distinctive - & it's a minor miracle our brains not only tolerate more of the thing - but we love it still.
  Sun. 1/31/16 5:40pm Chris M.:

Digging the selections. I can always handle hearing tunes that feature a 12 string Rickenbacker too! Thanks!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@Chris M.: Your enjoyment is my enjoyment.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:42pm geezerette:

This show is always so fluid and seamless. Gaylord you're a poet.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: I'm just a medium conjuring ghosts.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:46pm @sugarwolf@:

watch out for ectoplasm then
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:46pm geezerette:

It's a lovely seance.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:47pm dale:

(looking to see if my phone rang)
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: It's all a humbug, done with mirrors.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 5:58pm dale:

will you play the clip of france gall learning from serge what les sucettes really means on live tv?
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:03pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: FCC says no.
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:04pm ashley morey:

Now this is how a fuzz guitar should sound!
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:04pm ashley morey:

Justin's in heaven over the tones, haha
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:05pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

@Ashley Morey: I totally agree
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:05pm Gaylord Fields:

@ashley morey: It's fuzz + scratchy 45 that makes it sound so good.
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:09pm P-90:

"Fire Ball" is a great example of the "Fuzz Face" type of distortion. As opposed to the "Big Muff", "Distortion +", or "Tube Screamer" sounds.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:10pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: I like you. You're smart.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh - Fuzz Face is the saucer-shaped one Hendrix liked...
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:13pm dale:

LOVE this diana dors. and i thought she only looked great.
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:15pm P-90:

@RevRab, yes!, early on, then he was a huge Big Muff fan. btw: lots of Fuzz Face on that Diana Dors track too.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

FF is - fuzzier (GaragePunkier, if you will) - & BigMuff is throatier & increases Gain more (Grunge~Metal) ?
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@GF: That HelenShapiro tune reminds me a touch of Peter Berry and the Shake Set: "In Lonelier Days", which I wouldn't know except for your FakeBeatles blog...
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:25pm P-90:

FF: that mid-sixties "buzzy bee" sound
Big Muff: thick but smooth, "violin"-style distortion, like late Hendrix or Clapton's "woman tone". Not "grindy" or "Marshall amp-y", that's the Tube Screamer sound; or "Heavy Metal-y", that's the TS or the ProCo Rat pedal sound. Broadly.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:26pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: And I don't need to tell you that the Beatles wrote "Misery" for Helen. But you probably didn't know Helen wrote the song I played herself. She was clearly paying attention on the tour she shared with The Boys.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I did need you to tell me that! Both youze!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:31pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

I love Helen. "Walking Back to Happiness" is a staple in my to-go 45 box.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:33pm JakeGould:

What I like about Helen Shapiro is she existed in an era when someone said to themselves, “Self, a new Shapiro record is out!”
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@Real Nitty Gritty Tania: I also LOVE that song! Fun fact: "Walking Back to Happiness" was her highest-charting U.S. single, at No. 100 for one week.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:37pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

Pretty good for a council estate lass!
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:39pm P-90:

Ever notice that the middle of the second hour is when Gaylord often modulates into a Brazilian mood? Of course you did!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: I hope you're happy: Now I have to be contrary and stop doing that. (No, not really.)
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:44pm JakeGould:

Contrary Anne?
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Blame it on the Bossa Nova.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:45pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Blame it on the Cosa Nostra, and their payola.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:46pm dale:

is this from robin's reign?
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: That would make a great punk name.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: Why, yes. Yes, it is.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:49pm Hugh:

Is this Betty Carter, the jazz singer? Different Betty Carter?
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:50pm Monica:

one of my fave betty tracks! best-dressed show as always!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@Monica: Thanks for dropping by. I thought it felt a little warmer in here ("here" being my heart).
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:51pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Awesome show Gaylord!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@Hugh: One and the same.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@Bronwyn Bishop: Thanks for the compliment, my friend.
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:54pm Cooh John:

Nice show. Eclectic and catchy.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:55pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Yay Gene Pitney!
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@Cooh John: That's lovely of you to say.
  Sun. 1/31/16 6:55pm P-90:

@Gaylord: Thanks for once again putting the ecto- in the plasm and the smoke & mirrors in the humbug. Sundays require you.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@Bronwyn Bishop: He's one of my top male vocalists of all time.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:56pm dale:

PITNEY - i lurv him. have him singing his hits in italian as well.
Avatar Sun. 1/31/16 6:57pm Gaylord Fields:
