I don't think I've ever actually heard Adele. You could be riight, Dean! Hello all. I am at a loss at what to say about the loss of David Bowie. After this mic break I am playing Diamond Dogs straight through, and maybe one other song during the show. There have been many great tributes on the station and I started off by making a list of songs, which easily went over 8 hours, let alone 3, then I went with decades and still couldn't shave anything down. I feel that Diamond Dogs is a great representation as one piece that flows and encompasses so much, just as a glimpse into what he was capable of at a single point in time. That Is All. xo
  12:27pm
Dean:

I can take or leave. On first hearing it, the latest album struck me as owing something to Roxy Music, not that she intended it. But I tire of the Nirvana-like melodrama, the weary mumble followed by a stentorian bellow.
  12:27pm

The entire DD album? That's a perfect solution!

Thanks Diane. I feel like we are all shocked and heartbroken.

First heard Diamond Dogs visiting my grandparents house. My uncle lived there as well and introduced me to many bands, including Elton John, Black Oak Arkansas, and David Bowie. Most afternoons, little was happening, so I'd have the run of the record cabinet. The DD album cover was an unusual image to process as a 13-year-old, much less the opening screed (which I'd already memorized via Creem magazine.

Off to listen... and thank you.

The Never Ending Skeletal Family, love it!
  1:16pm
PJ:

I am not the biggest Bowie fan, but his death affected me more than I would have expected. His music, at its best, expressed, in a very striking way, discontentment with and alienation from modern society, the resulting melancholy, and a tenacious romanticism seeking another way of living. His personas are all outsiders, even when they're insiders, a way of making those inside society (all of us, to some degree) notice the problem. You've got five years until the end of the world, what are you going to do with it?
