Hi, everybody! I'm DJ'ing a popcorn night later in Brooklyn, hence lotsa midtempo on the show tonight.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:16pm JtotheK:

i heard a really cool popcorn tune earlier in the week, and the store had it on 45 ... and on 78! i think it was from 1958. i don't remember the name of the song or the artist. happy to help! (but, it really was great! i have to call the guy and get the name...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:18pm JtotheK:

i know very very little about the popcorn sound/45 scene (outside of the 15 minute documentary on youtube) but what i've heard i really like, and hope to learn more...
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 8:19pm glenn:

Avatar    Fri. 12/4/15 8:22pm Mailman Tom:

I'd like to hear an all instrumental Downtown Soulville show one of these Friday nights. Please include that great side by Dave Cortez !
Avatar    Fri. 12/4/15 8:23pm Mr. Fine Wine:

Mailman Tom, I will definitely do another one of those one of these days.

Avatar    Fri. 12/4/15 8:46pm DP:

Hey FW. Verrrry nice set. Needed clarification on popcorn. So many sub-genres. Hope all is well & I get to see you soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:47pm Uncle Michael:

Mama's got a new handbag.
Avatar    Fri. 12/4/15 8:48pm Mr. Fine Wine:

First set was all popcorn; later sets had some popcorn. For deep immersion in the popcorn sound, I highly recommend seeking out DJ Lucien's Youtube channel. Look for DJLucien01.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:50pm Uncle Michael:

You know what would be a cool Youtube channel? One that offered up examples of the dances...Camel Walk, Four Corners, Cissy Strut, Shingaling, etc. I have no idea what most of them look like. And I mean the ones that actually caught on...not just the obscure failures.
  Fri. 12/4/15 8:50pm Mr C:

The other Little Sonny on Revilot...never heard until the FW show!
Avatar    Fri. 12/4/15 8:52pm Mr. Fine Wine:

The Little Sonny is highly reminiscent of Johnny Otis's Country Girl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:59pm JtotheK:

Great show! Thanks Mr. Fine Wine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/4/15 8:59pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the music FW.

HI MATT , HOPE EVERYTHING IS OK , VERY SAD FOR YOUR PARTY IN BRUSSELS , BUT NICE DECISION , AS USUAL TOP SET. INTERESTED BY : THE TWO FRIENDS - JUST TOO MUCH TO HOPE FOR IF YOU FIND ANOTHER COPY , THINK ABOUT ME . MANY THANKS ALL THE BEST TAKE CARE MICHAEL
  Thu. 12/10/15 7:53pm Peter:

Wow. The Fabulous Peps version of Gypsy Woman is Booker T in 1966 (about between vol 6 and vol 7) but is not on Stax... and they later played it at the Chit Chat Lounge with the Funk Brothers? (easy internet search on soulful detroit/mike hanks story).

Kind of a different arrangement, short but stretched at the same time.
