MrFab:

hey Peter!
I have some albums by the Peanuts. Unfortunately, they don't contain any of their Mothra songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Rich in Washington:

But do they contain peanuts?
Avatar 3:30pm
Peter Nelson:

Hi Mr Fab. Do you have 'Feelin Good:New Dimensions Of the Peanuts'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

@Sarah: Crunchy!

Peter Nelson:

Hey Rich in W. Welcome.
  3:34pm
MrFab:

Don't remember the album names. I am at work, far from my record closet.
in the '90s I would record the Peanuts off of Mothra movies when they would come on tv. (Gawd, that sounds weird...)

My favorite word in, perhaps, the world is Spanish for "peanuts."

Peter Nelson:

Hello Dean. Which is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
listener james from westwood:

A zillion years ago, some inspired FMU DJ played a hip hop cut that used a scratched sample of Charlie Brown's "I got a rock" throughout, making it sound like "I gotta rock." Brilliant.
Avatar 3:40pm
DeemerDave:

Peter: If you feel it fits your show, The Police recorded "Peanuts" on "Outlandos d'Amour"

@listener james -- that's from a Kid Koala mix...either on the Emperor Main Course in Cantonese EP, or the Scratchscratchscratch mixtape... it's wonderful!

Same as French then - cacahuète (pronounced cackawet). Love it! German's cool too - Erdnuss.

Whenever I pass a Walnut St. in Anytown, USA, I am compelled to pronounce it VAHL-noose.

My kids gotta hear this rendition of the Thomas the Tank Engine tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Um, yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

Thomas the Tank engine music underlying it; nice touch.

That easily could've been on one of the comps Tony just played!
Avatar 3:47pm
Sarah N:

@Dean - one should never pass up an opportunity to say VAHL-noose!
Avatar 3:48pm
Peter Nelson:

Did you know the name 'Walnut' comes form the Saxon word for foreign?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Parq:

I was waiting for "Peanut Vendor" -- the Don Azpiazú recording was one of the first Latin-based hits in the United States. This is as good a time as any to plug the book from which I learned that, a book that any Giver the Drummer stalwart will devour.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Rich in Washington:

now I'm thinking about the 'stop naming nuts' scene from Best In Show.
  3:52pm
Dean:

The enduring metal band Saxon, or some other one? Did not know that. OED adds: "The solitary Old English example (in a glossary c1050) is the earliest known appearance of the word in any language. The word must, however, have come to England from the Continent, but there is no evidence to show whether it belonged to the primitive Old English vocabulary, or was introduced at a relatively late date. It seems to have belonged originally to the Low German-speaking district; etymologically it meant the nut of the Roman lands (Gaul and Italy) as distinguished from the native hazel."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Parq:

That's it -- I'm changing the name of my autobiography to "Stop Naming Nuts".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm

Now I'm thinking about the 'peanut butter' quote from Shakes the Clown.

Yep. And Fripp wanted each of the band members to assume pseudonyms: Jiff, Skippy, etc. I'm reading Bill Bruford's autobiography. I know this stuff.

I love the idea of an ambient collar!! Perhaps it keeps dog fleas at bay.....

Incidentally, as fleep referred to earlier....the peanut is not actually is nut at all, but a legume. I have no idea what to think about that, but just had to share.

New from Ronco! Ambient collars. Only 9.99.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm

Eno got the idea for ambient collars when he was convalescing from a broken collarbone and couldn't get up to turn his collar down.
Avatar 4:15pm

Did his collar go up to eleven?

The Sixth always reminds me of the "Simpsons" parody of "Fantasia," where the kids, having all stopped watching cartoons, wander outside, blinking at the sun, and begin actually playing, skipping rope, painting fences, etc.

Blinking In The Sun — another great radio show name.

Yeah James...it's remarkably evocative, even after 2 centuries.

Dean:

For beginnings, then, the last movement of the finale of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite was for a time the introductory music at Yes concerts.
  5:36pm
Dean:

And this sextet arrangement is really lovely.
  5:37pm
Dean:

"last movement of the finale" redundantly repeats what I already said again.
Avatar 5:43pm
Peter Nelson:

Yeah Dean...so many of us were introduced to Stravinsky by Yes. I have a wonderful performance of The Firebird by Les Ciecle, which I intend to play some time. A reconstruction of the first performance.
Avatar 5:45pm
Peter Nelson:

Sorry, that should be 'Les Siecle'.
  5:46pm
Listener Robert:

Good thing I had other visuals from Beethoven in my mind before I eventually saw "A Clockwork Orange"!
Avatar 5:46pm
Peter Nelson:

Stravinsky tinkered with it a lot, so the 1st performance thing is valid...sounds quite different.
  5:48pm
Dean:

Would love to hear the Siecles. There's also Richter's famous Sofia performance of the piano transcription of the suite.

If Kubrick knew anything, he knew how to combine music and visuals. The soundtrack to Clockwork Orange is hella fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Gary:

Just back from work; can't wait to dig into this one in the archives!
Avatar 5:50pm

@Dean. There's a piano transcription of The Firebird? By 'eck, I'd love to hear that!

And yeah to what you say about Kubrick. Totally agree. A Master.

Oops. Richter played Mussourgsky's "Pictures," not Stravinsky! Duh.
