![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 12:09am
JakeGould:
Hey Meghan! Happy to spend some post, “cleaning up tools and cables” time with you and this show! |
![]() |
![]() From the picture, I'm inferring you're not playing anything from Men Without Hats tonight? Because those men are sharing an enormous hat. |
Sun. 10/11/15 12:09am
P-90:
How about: Meghan, you're one of our somewhat limited number of hopes!
Sun. 10/11/15 12:10am
P-90:
LOVE this song btw | |

JakeGould:
@Meghan: 1980s? I graduated H.S. in 1986 so hey… This is old folk music right here! |
![]() |
![]() hahaha..... I graduated in 1992..... so I was in high school at 1988 |
![]() |
![]() '88 high school graduation for me too. That marked the end of much suffering, but songs like these helped me through |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 12:26am
JakeGould:
Whoa… I need my Geritol and a nap. |
![]() |
![]() "Party Hardy, Rock and Roll, drink a six pack, smoke a bowl. Sex is awesome drugs are great, we're the class of '88" |
![]() |
![]() Nice mantra! |
![]() |
![]() That's what I learned was our class song, from the "cool" kids, hehe |

@nixxon. Was that a Catholic High School?

slugluv1313:
yikes! fetch me my walking stick and stuff me in the old geezer home -- i graduated in '77! but yeah, during high school & college, many of these tunes got me through tough times too |
![]() |
![]() @Kmo: nope, a public school |
Sun. 10/11/15 12:35am
Kmo:
@nixxon. Could've been, though.
![]() |
![]() @Kmo: definitely. I was raised catholic, and there were certainly lots of them about! |
![]() |
![]() Hello hello! How's it burbling tonight? Good to hear ya, Meghan. |

![]() Good evening Ike! |

BadGuyZero:
Those "Just Say [fill in the blank" label samplers that Sire Records released in the late 80s/early 90s were good compilations. They introduced me to a few bands. |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:04am
leshwatt:
Meghan is back? Whoa, nobody told me!!

Stone Roses, most ignored in US Brit band ever
![]() |
![]() I was so mad that they played out at Coachella and never came around here. |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:15am
BadGuyZero:
One of my fave bands when I was in high school was The Godfathers. I flew up to Chicago in 2009 to see their first U.S. show in almost twenty years. It was the first time I'd seen them since they were support on Love & Rockets 1989 U.S. tour. |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:16am
KP:
The bourgeois prob flew them in for a one off
![]() |
![]() Stone Roses were not that ignored where I was. A lot of the hype leaked across from the UK, and the other alt fans in my school were into them. |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:16am
KP:
But over there, parades, tv, posters in stores
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:17am
JakeGould:
@Meghan: !!! This is pretty much my end of college, working around Gramercy Park playlist of 1991 or so. |
![]() |
![]() I hadn't seen J&M Chain until this past month. It was one of those- I'll see them next time.... |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:18am
JakeGould:
@Īke: Well, compared to Oasis and Blur the Stone Roses and pretty much the rest of the bands that Meghan is playing didn’t hit the radar of most Americans. |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:18am
JakeGould:
@Meghan: Never saw Jesus and Mary Chain live but did see My Bloody Valentine live at their peak so… Got my fill of feedback… |
![]() |
![]() Oh I could go deep in this area. I had people from the UK convinced I was from the UK. They had no clue how I knew of half of these bands |
![]() |
![]() Me too Jake..... did Pale Saints open for them? |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:19am
KP:
If you are familiar with the Blog that Celebrates Itself, the latest one is Ride.
![]() |
![]() oh wait, that was Ride that Pale Saints opened for...... Buffalo Tom opened for MBV |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:20am
JakeGould:
@Meghan: Nope. This was the somewhat famous show at the Ritz during CMJ in 1992 I think with Superchunk, Pavement and My Blood Valentine. |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:21am
rw:
Hey! Fun show tonight! The theme is "Filling in for Mary"? Been dancing around in the kitchen. Hope the neighbors have been watching.

![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:25am
JakeGould:
@BadGuyZero: Small world! I have scans of my ticket stubs—part of a personal archiving project—and here is what I went to that’s relevant to this show: • 1991-02-28 - Charlatans UK & The Cavedogs - The Ritz • 1991-03-21 - Ride - The Marquee • 1991-04-29 - Lush & Smashing Orange - The Marquee • 1991-11-23 - The Pixies & Pere Ubu - The Ritz • 1992-03-27 - Lush & Poster Children - The Ritz • 1992-06-19 - My Bloody Valentine, Superchunk & Pavement - The Ritz • 1992-06-20 - Ride - The Academy |
![]() |
![]() Ugh, I never got to see Lush, I kick myself for that..... Love that the Cavedogs opened for Charlatans! I saw the Charlatans at Irving Plaza |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:28am
Kmo:
Up next after the Del Feguoes will be the Bodeans and then following that will be Charlie Sexton
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:29am
JakeGould:
Seems like the Stone Roses only really toured the U.S. in the mid 1990s? www.songkick.com... |
![]() |
![]() Oh I could have totally thrown in some Bodeans! |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:30am
JakeGould:
@Meghan: Yeah, Lush live was amazing in those early days. I know they are playing 2 dates in the U.K. but if they come to the U.S., then jump on that. |
![]() |
![]() oh I am already planning on it. tempted to just go to the UK! |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:36am
BadGuyZero:
I'm figuring out how many My Bloody Valentine shows I'm going to go to when their new album comes out in 2037. |
![]() |
![]() hahaha, so true.... |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:39am
JakeGould:
Full confession: I can’t even begin to state how much that “MBV” album disappointed me. To me it’s just “Loveless” and “Isn't Anything” and that’s it. “Soft as Snow But Warm Inside” is great! |
Sun. 10/11/15 1:45am
Marek:
Greetings from Poland! Great music!
![]() |
![]() Hey Meghan, sounding great. I never make requests, but I'm dying for Tom Waits. |
![]() |
![]() oh Poland! Why hello! |
![]() |
![]() Wait(s), do your thing, I'll play Waits on my show! |
![]() |
![]() Look at Nate, dropping in requests! |
![]() |
![]() Sorry... |

is this Dear God from the Polarity Corrected " skylarking" 2014 edition? This song is a big favorite. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2014/02/24/xtc-skylarking-corrected-polarity-reissue-cd/

![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:31am
BadGuyZero:
Supersuckers used to do a show on Halloween as Thin Lizzy Seance. Lots of Phil Lynott zombie jokes. |
![]() |
![]() That photo is great and I came across it for the first time tonight..... It looks like something that was taken long ago.... |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:32am
BadGuyZero:
One year they opened for The Fastbacks, who had decided to be Supersuckers for Halloween and started their set with a few covers of 'suckers songs. |
![]() |
![]() It's a crap shoot.... some bands are great and some not so much...... I was blown away by a Bowie cover band that could've gone either way...... |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:38am
BadGuyZero:
Dallas has way too many cover/tribute bands. I know other cities have their fair share. But I'm pretty sure Dallas has the most per capita. |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:38am
JakeGould:
@Meghan: Bringing this to Mary’s show… When she does “Three of a Kind” she sometimes takes suggestions and is pretty clear when the cover songs she finds just stink. Some bands are just a tad… Deluded? But rediscovered Ministry’s cover of “Gimme Shelter” a day or so back… WOW! Great cover. |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:39am
JakeGould:
@BadGuyZero: Back in the early to mid-ish 1990s there were still TONS of classic rock cover bands playing at bars on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. Now it’s just bars and dude-bro drunk food places. I miss those cover bands. |
![]() |
![]() Were Violent Femmes or The Psychedelic Furs part of your high school experience, Meghan? just curious. |
![]() |
Sun. 10/11/15 2:43am
JakeGould:
@Ken: Kinda scary how many people I meet might not be into alternative music or anything past mainstream but they ALL know “Blister in the Sun.” |
![]() |
![]() of course! Loved Dumb Waiters..... such a great song. And you could never go wrong with Gone Daddy Gone. I totally have a thing for xylophones.... |

"Blister In The Sun" : Violent Femmes :: "Punk Rock Girl" : The Dead Milkmen |
