Not entirely in agreement with you, Bob, on your take on Dylan. But I do think Dylan's melodies weren't always strong enough to warrant the length of of his mid- sixties songs. Desolation Row, for instance, didn't need to be 11 minutes. | |

Good point about the primacy of the words. But, still, these are songs and if the melody or chord changes are not so compelling, you've got to wach the length. Now, Like a Rolling Stone is perfect. Long enough for the brilliant portraiture of the words but musically tight. | |
