Golden Earring beyond Radar Love? C'mon people: "Candy's Going bad", "Mad Love is coming", "Just like Vince Taylor" the Beatlesque "in This house" Confession I was once on an Aircraft Carrier for 10 months with nay but the Golden Earrings live cassette, um and Todd Rundgren, Elvin Bishop, a Nazareth lp until the tape snaggled and I think think the first Cars record. Yeah, that was a long time ago.

fuck yeah! Mercyful Fate!!!! true story...i had their first album, Melissa, taken up by my religion teacher in 8th grade. I was showing the student sitting next to me the pic of King Diamond in the upside down cross. After class, i went up to my teacher and asked for my Mercyful Fate album back and she said "NO!". Bitch

Here's a song I haven't heard before (not that I can remember, anyway): Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." It's supposed to be the scientifically measured most feel-good song ever. The songs on the Fun Machine so far today have me feeling pretty good.

MenfussMike: When I was in the 8th grade, I bought my first three tapes; Slaughter, Skid Row, and Laurie Anderson. When I got home, my mother was critical of the band names and song titles: "Slaughter? 'Youth Gone Wild'? 'The Day the DEVIL'?! I don't know if I like this."
  1:35pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...much easier to be a younger brother: much of parents' culture shock is spared you. Did have an elementary school teacher rip up my 1st issue of 'Plop!' comic book tho' - wonder what it'd be worth now? I'd sue but that district has no money...
Avatar 1:37pm
Cecile:

Surprisingly, I got off OK on that front, except for the time my mother burned a copy of Sex and the Single Girl someone had left at our house, and made me take Gone with the Wind back to the library.
Avatar 1:38pm
MenfussMike:

eyepatch: i had two of those tapes as well.

1970 or so, I'm ten or eleven, spinning my newly acquired LP of the Hair soundtrack on my parents' stereo in the front room. My mom's in the kitchen when "Masturbation" commences (the song, I mean). She was mildly concerned, but figured it was just a harmless litany of technical terms for sexy time, sung to a nice melody. Which it was.
Avatar 1:52pm
Diane Kamikaze:

Yay for mom on that one. I had countless run ins with my mom on various records...
Avatar 1:55pm
V Priceless:

@Dean - Cool - I suspect that "Metal Machine Music" finally made her lose it though, right?
  1:59pm
Dean:

@VP: If only. MMM on vinyl is great, because you could honestly argue, "I'll stop when this is over," then listen as long as you like. Same for NON's 7" with the eccentric hole. I'm bitter about the fact that I'd play old Rod Stewart and Faces, and she'd holler, "Turn that down!" Fast forward several decades and she can't get enough of Rod Stewart. "Have you heard of him?" Yeesh.
