...okay - you'd think the best-selling Jazz album of all time would be played out - but no, under 'timeless' in the dictionary...
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:05pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, sugarwolf!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:06pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Which is why I had no qualms whatsoever about starting my show with a song from it. Also: Freeform radio.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:06pm middlebun:

Best concert I ever saw was when Miles opened for Laura Nyro at the Filmore East.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& if you tell us what you paid for that ticket late 60s, I must kill us all...
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@middlebun: You can't see my eyes because this is radio, but you can probably still tell that they're green.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:19pm Herb:

Gaylord you do an amazing show. Hey middlebun what year did Miles openning for Laura Niro?
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:20pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, @Herb!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:21pm P-90:

Greetings Gaylord and all the Gaylordained here gathered. Perfect playlist openers for this stormy late spring Sunday evening. And great to see you, Therese, Amanda, Irwin, Todd, and the rest of the gang at Joe Belock's extraordinary event Friday night with Bobby Hart and Rachel Lichtman!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:22pm Gaylord Fields:

Hiya, P-90! Back atcha! I had a great time there!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:25pm Santos L Halper:

@herb: I think there's a pic of that marquee in the Fillmore box, I'll check. That would've been spring 70?
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:26pm dale:

that last song had a real richard clayderman feel to it. such beauty in porn.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: It's such a musically ambitious porn soundtrack that it beggars belief!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:28pm Santos L Halper:

Yep, June 17-20, 1970. Laura sent him flowers.
Great stuff today Gaylord!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:31pm Markreichard:

All four nights of that run of Miles shows are on the 4-CD set, "The Bootleg Series Vol. 3: Miles Davis at the Fillmore." And I join everyone else who envies you being there, middle...but at least the rest of us can hear the music now. Gaylord, love your show. Was not familiar with Able Tasmans before...that was really pretty. So is the Notwist. Freeform indeed.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:32pm Gaylord Fields:

@Santos L Halper: Thanks!

@Markreichard: Also, thanks to you!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:36pm Monica:

Comin' down like cats and dogs over here, G! You're always great when those scary thunderboomers come thru.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:38pm Gaylord Fields:

We'll weather the storm together, Monica. I'm holding your hand through the airwaves.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:40pm Mark:

Wow, Baris Manco is gorgeous, too.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:42pm phat:

had to turn this up
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:42pm dale:

elton does prog. love it.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mark: Barış Manço looks like the international rock god he should have been all along.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:42pm Mark:

Oh, man, this takes me back. I know it was played to death on AOR radio back in the 70s, but "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is still a great album, dammit. Just because everybody liked it doesn't mean it sucked.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mark: Let that be a lesson to everyone: Sometimes, the masses aren't asses.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:43pm P-90:

[quickly donning headphones, turning out lights]
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:45pm Mark:

PS I'm very very happy you're holding steady in your regular time slot on the Summer Schedule. Music to barbecue and stab each other with Jarts by.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:45pm sugarwolf:

popular doesn't mean automatically good OR bad....
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:47pm phat:

this had to be one fun record to make.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Precisely! The popularity or lack thereof of a work of art is utterly irrelevant to me with regard to its quality.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:47pm JakeGould:

Damn! Perfect timing. Was just listening to some Elton John earlier today. Thank you kind sir.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- popularity may mean a.) association w/ trendy buttheads, b.) overexposure - but I don't feel that about this Elton...tempted to call him the *real* Billy Joel in fact, but we don't need to go there...
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:49pm frenchee:

Lovely, lovely, lovely! Gaylord, thank you for taking me to a happy/sad Elton John place--forgot how much he mattered to me oncet.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:49pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: This is the only song I had pre-planned to play on this show, but I didn't plan where or how to lead up to it. I'm pretty happy with how I managed it.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elton may have had some tiny kind of Fun @ some point...just possible...
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:50pm frenchee:

@JakeGould @Gaylord: MEEE TOOOOO
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:50pm Gaylord Fields:

@frenchee: I wanted to remind myself how much I liked Elton, and I'm glad I was able to elicit the same emotion from you and others.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:51pm Ike:

"The The Family Way?" Is that where Matt Johnson becomes a fundie Mormon and gets three women pregnant at the same time?
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:51pm stevej:

Haven't heard this in forever. Still like it though.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ike: I'll let your proofreader's snark slide because it's funny.
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:56pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello.Great song for impending rain (East Suffolk Co)
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:56pm phat:

holy shit
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Weird 1970s thing: Connecting to Elton John emotionally in private as he'd come up on popular radio; odd for Glam? Oh wait - that's my own smalltown introvert thing...nevermind...
...Matt Johnson *should* do soundtracks...
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 5:57pm dale:

it's an hour long rock block!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:58pm Mark:

Also love Elton's live-in-studio "11-17-70" record. Just the trio at that point (no Davey Johnstone yet) and they really rocked it!
  Sun. 5/31/15 5:59pm Mark:

Marvin's trumpet player is very uptight. (I mean that as a compliment.)
  Sun. 5/31/15 6:00pm cglenn:

Today's show fantabulous so far Gaylord!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:04pm sugarwolf:

oh boy, Fayelord!!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:05pm Gaylord Fields:

@cglenn: Why, thank you kindly!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:05pm Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

Had a rough drive through woodsy Staten Island coming from my grandma's wake but the first 20 minutes of your show got me through it. Lovely. Thank you.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:06pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Faye and I are currently in negotiations on how much Fayelord we will foist upon the listeners.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

No Martha. : (
Yay Faye! : )
Hullo Honky Tonk Radio Girl. : )
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Condolences.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:09pm Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

Thanks, Rabbit.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:09pm Gaylord Fields:

@Honky Tonk Radio Girl: Glad to be of auto assistance! (And speaking of the new schedule, one can -- and should -- find Becky, the Honky Tonk Radio Girl, on Mondays, 7-8 pm ET.)
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:10pm hambone:

this is great.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:12pm dale:

htr girl - hope grandma had a good long life
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:12pm Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

dale: She died on her 90th birthday! She knew how to make a stylish exit.
  Sun. 5/31/15 6:13pm stevej:

Please dispatch 18 musicians to Honky Tonk Radio Girl (and family)
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:13pm JakeGould:

@HonkyTonkRadioGirl: My condolences on the loss of your Grandma. That said, really looking forward to your show! The Monday timeslot seems perfect… At least to me.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:14pm JakeGould:

Also, I want to see a Fayelord logo. Preferably in ball point pen on the back of a notebook with umlauts and sharp edges.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:15pm Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

@JakeGould: Thank you! I'm really looking forward to it. I think the Jeopardy! hour is perfect for hillbilly records.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:15pm dale:

she knew the importance of keeping a date
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:17pm common:

good sounds gaylord hello peoples
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:17pm JakeGould:

Apropos to nothing, saw this link from a friend that shows how crazy Sand Francisco real estate is. $800,000 for a creepy “fixer upper” with a classic car in the basement. Mama mia! 1155monterey.com
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:20pm sugarwolf:

@JakeGould was just talking with my friend about the price SF real estate/housing (her sister lives in Oakland)
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:21pm JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Well, if your friend has $800,000 lying around and has no problem moving into a disturbingly creepy house with a classic car in the basement, go for it!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@Honky Tonk Radio Girl: You are certainly your grandmother's granddaughter. Keep up the stylish life!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& a little scoobysnack for the guitarheads...
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

New album Jacco? Gifted young self-producer, szheesh.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:36pm Gaylord Fields:

This song is "Fay" without an "e" -- so it has nothing to do with my cohort.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:41pm unpopularfred:

Is he proving he's a man with that screaming guitar sound?
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:45pm Gaylord Fields:

@unpopularfred: You win the comments board -- this time...
  Sun. 5/31/15 6:48pm ashley morey:

Aww thanks so much for including us in today's set!! We're loving your show as always and were so surprised. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@ashley morey: It was my pleasure and privilege! Someone just called to ask me about your song! I was more than pleased to extol away! And I (and many local listeners, I hope) will see you on Wednesday at Monty Hall!
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:52pm dk:

always good to have a reminder of how utterly amazing mary hansen was. what a loss.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:54pm dale:

the vogues were stalkers?
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:54pm fleep:

Nowadays we call it stalking.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:55pm fleep:

Joke convergence.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:55pm dale:

great minds, fleep
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:55pm Gaylord Fields:

This Vogues song is so wrong.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:56pm dale:

girl, you'll be a woman soon.....into the night....GREAT pedophile songs.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:57pm Gaylord Fields:

@dk: I did a somewhat indirect tribute show to Mary a couple of years ago. She was truly a beautiful human. I miss her immensely.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:58pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: Don't forget Gary Puckett's Jail Bait Trilogy.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:59pm dk:

her music so perfectly describes my taste it's like there's this big hole in my brain where all the stuff she would have done should be. makes me all the more grateful for what we DO have from her.
Avatar Sun. 5/31/15 6:59pm dale:

i must look that up.
  Sun. 5/31/15 6:59pm Matthieu Beck:

Great selection, thanks ! I love Gal... Good track to go to sleep here in London
  Sun. 5/31/15 6:59pm P-90:
