Always a pleasure to hear Jack Owens. Cold called his old musical partner Bud Spires while passing through Bentonia, MS, a couple years ago. He invited me over to his place, played a few songs on the harmonica, told old folktale/jokes, & generally charmed the heck out of me. RIP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, hyde! I once threw my pork shoulder out and was eating vegetables for a week.

It's always an honor and a pleasure to have your company, Lore!

Keshavan on piccolo!!
  Fri. 5/1/15 10:14am Listener Gregory:

Keshavan Maslak would have been much more popular if he/they had worked the phrase "washboard raggamuffins" into the group's name.

damn near the canoes, Alex... perversely, Maori talk about Chile! "There are some countries that have a real connection with the sea, the day's rhythm seems to be in sync with the tides." i suppose that's like a request for some water songs...
  Fri. 5/1/15 10:21am Maricôt:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 10:24am Doug Schulkind:

Close your windows Doug, but open the door to your heart..
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 10:39am Alex In Illinois:

I have met some devoted Vince Guaraldi fans. It is easy to understand why they enjoy his music. And, when listening to a Vince Guaraldi record with them they were like happy little kids (they were all over 50) and their joy was easily infections.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 10:42am Doug Schulkind:

Some have said that Vince Guaraldi is the most listened to jazz musician in history. And many credit him with getting them interested in jazz. To all of that I say THANK YOU Vince Guaraldi.

The doors to my heart are always ajar, MrC.

Working in a record store years ago, I helped out a very elderly, non-English-speaking, Japanese couple who could make their request known only as "Snoopy music". We special ordered them the Vince Guaraldi Peanuts record. Their unvarnished delight was a thing of beauty.
  Fri. 5/1/15 10:59am Maricôt:

Can't believe the show is my age
  Fri. 5/1/15 11:01am Mark Williams:

@Mark W
I just have a digital copy. Went to Discogs and grabbed the first release that popped up to throw in the playlist!

That's Marie's Crisis, Brian. It happens to her later on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:31am Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of fruity record labels, one of the first record stores I started mass purchasing at was the local Peaches chain store in Rockville, Maryland. It had the most amazing cutout bins in the history of the vinylverse. I bought about 20 Yusef Lateef records there in maybe 1975 and the rest is (my delirious) history.
Avatar Fri. 5/1/15 11:33am ndbob:

@Doug for sure - I worked near there at the time - One day I went in and they had a huge selection of County label prewar country collections in the cutout bin - must have bought 20 of them
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:37am Brian in UK:

In lieu of ......., read The Peaches by Dylan Thomas last night, the first story in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog.

Sounds like a great shop, you can test out sounds with little outlay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
Makes me sad. Back then I was completely close-minded to country music. It took me too long to shake off that particular bias.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

Nice bari sax on this Edwin Starr deal. Sounds almost electrified like Eddie Harris' electric sax.
Avatar Fri. 5/1/15 11:48am still b/p:

Must give thanks for not only today's show, but for all the streamy blessings. Have spent long hypno-dogged-indoor-confinement days taking care of projects on the computer recently (I understand something called "Spring" is unfolding out there?), and yesterday the programs and the stretches of in-between musical flow on the Drummer stream were so good and especially welcome. I'd say awesome...and I never say awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:51am Uncle Michael:

We're here for you s b/p.
Avatar Fri. 5/1/15 11:51am northguineahills:

I had friends that worked at our local Peaches. Then it became a Coconuts. Then a Blockbuster Music, then a Xtian book/music store. The last time I visited my parents it was a mattress store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/1/15 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

You've been such a nice audience, I'm giving you parts 1 and 2 of Slow That Disco Down.
