Only D:O could get me back in from this nice burst of New Jersey spring!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Jeff Golick:

Hey, listener james! Thanks for coming in from the warm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

I'm not taking the snow shovel off my porch until August.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Jeff Golick:

Ha, Doug. Just put ours down the cellar last weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Doug Schulkind:

Two other reasons to stay indoors: On this date in...

1986 – The heaviest hailstones ever recorded (2.2 lb) fall on the Gopalganj district of Bangladesh, killing 92

1999 – A severe hailstorm strikes Sydney, Australia causing A$2.3 billion in insured damages, the most costly natural disaster in Australian history

doca:

Hey, @Jeff G. and all, it's a beautiful spring-like fall day here on the 30 parallel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Jeff Golick:

Helloooo, @doca!
  12:14pm
doca:

Hey, guys, going to NYC next week. Very excited about it. Lots of jazz concerts on my schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Jeff Golick:

Oh, a great time to visit, doca! What's on the agenda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Jeff Golick:

Hail and hardy, Doug.
  12:18pm
Dean:

I'm gonna hold you guys liable for my household's financial troubles. I stocked up on Burkhard Stangl records after Doug Schulkind played "Schnee Live" on Friday, and now you're extending the want list even further. (I also picked up some early Laura Cantrell disks over the weekend. Really lovely stuff.)
  12:18pm
doca:

Wadada Leo Smith on The Stone, Tyshawn Sorey on Roulette, AACM 50th anniversary, some concerts on DMG. Its a contemporary jazz intensive course I'll take, plus WFMU's Cambodian rock night.
  12:19pm
doca:

I've seen that Acid Mothers Temple will play on May 6th at the Knitting Factory. Looking forward for that too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Jeff Golick:

Sorry/not sorry, Dean. And hello.

@doca: That sounds perfect. Wadada at the Stone should be outstanding. I'm hoping to see ICP at Roulette on the 7th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Jeff Golick:

Ps. This is not the first time this cut has been played on FMU. Album came out this year.
  12:24pm
Dean:

Correction: Kurt Gottschalk played the Stangl, not Doug. Still, I blame all of you.
  12:24pm
doca:

Yeah ICP will be playing May 6th too, but my flight back is May 7th, so I'm still between ICP and Japanese psychedelia, actually.
There'll be a William Parker and Tony Malaby concert at Downtown Music Gallery too, I think 26th next. This one I can't miss.
  12:25pm
Dean:

@doca: A grand tour, for sure. You're going to have a great time.
  12:26pm
doca:

@Dean: you can blame the WFMU collectively for your financial tribulations/listening pleasures
  12:27pm
doca:

@Dean: yeah I thought I should diversify my musical choices a little bit, but what can I do if almost everybody I want to see live will be playing when I'm there?
  12:27pm
Dean:

A letter from my attorney is in the mail. I'm willing to settle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Jeff Golick:

@doca: I might try to find you at that DMG show!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
listener james from westwood:

Queen Amy! Love that drop-in.
  12:33pm
doca:

@Jeff G: That'll be easy, I'll be the one with a WFMU t-shirt (just kidding, that's my record fair joke)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: My kids have been mainlining Parks & Rec lately, so it was in the air here.

@doca: Ha. Me, too!
  12:37pm
doca:

Never seen Parks and Recreation. I took a weekend to see that High Maintenance webseries and it got me surprised. Very nice stuff.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff(s).
We got us plenty of snake oil right now. It's election time.
That Doug S is a little ray of sunshine, snow 'n hailstones, man.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Brian in UK:

Hey doca you visit sounds busy.
  12:42pm
doca:

@Brian: it should. One concert a day, that's my mantra.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Jeff Golick:

Parks and Recreation took a season or two to really find its footing, I think. Have not seen High Maintenance.

Greetings, @Brian in UK! Save us some of that oil; it's coming upon that time here, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Dean
Yeah, I played the Casey Stangl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Jeff Golick:

Hey-o! Opening Day at Shea today for Los Mets...
  12:43pm
Dean:

@Doug: Oops. I meant Yogi Berra! I often confuse the two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Dean
True story: I have a station ID that Yogi Berra recorded for Give the Drummer Some. I'll try to remember to play it on Friday.
  12:54pm
Dean:

@Doug: Hilarious. If you play it, please do so during the last hour. Time difference messes up my Friday morning vis-a-vis WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Dean
If I forget, you can always email and I can send you the MP3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Jeff Golick:

How's the stereo balance on this Tony Williams tune? It's split rather noticeably in my headphones, and I'm wondering how it's coming across, as we had some channel oddities last week on a cut...

Is the rest of the record this good?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Jeff Golick:

This is probably the high point, but Hemingway was on a couldn't-do-no-wrong string of albums here...
Avatar 1:21pm

I gotta educate myself, then. This is really grabbin me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

Sweet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

Hemingway has played on so many thrilling sessions.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm

Glad to hear it, @ljfw!

Your band here is:
George Lewis, trombone
Muhal Richard Abrams, piano
Mark Helias, bass
Charles "Bobo" Shaw, drums
Braxton, everything else

He hasn't had some in a long, LONG time.
Even longer than the drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Jeff Golick:

Ike! How do you do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Doug Schulkind:

Nice avatar, Ike!

Jazz Robots! So killing man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Jeff Golick:

So, killing, Santos L Halper! Hiya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
Ike:

Thanks, Doug. That must be a surviving clip from a lost 60s episode because I'd never seen Daleks with fire before I stumbled across this GIF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Stepchild:

Loving the show today! & Well said there re White Line, Jeff. Now, is that among the upcoming Hat reissue slate??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Stepchild! And yes, that Koglmann is among the reissues slated for this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Stepchild:

OK thanks. Necessary.
  2:16pm
Dean:

All of those old Franz Koglmann Hat disks are worth acquiring. I've missed ever hearing him live, regrettably. But I did hear Fritz Hauser (who played on some of those old FK records) with Marilyn Crispell, Joelle Leandre, and Urs Leimgruber at the performance that emerged as Quartet Noir. A happy moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Doug Schulkind:

Running off to stack Trisuits. Have a slamming last 3/4 of an hour JG!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
listener james from westwood:

Joe Bataan: always welcome. And I for some reason actually watched "Chico and the Man" when it was on, even though I was what, 5, 6?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Jeff Golick:

Back to TV themes!
