I wonder if there's some way we Stan-heads could volunteer to update Stan's playlist during the show, remotely (presumably just a login/password would be necessary). There's software that can ID tracks (wouldn't get everything, in which case the volunteer would have to pay close attention to Stan's mic breaks!)

anybody have the station phone# handy?! (not the marathon one- it may not be hooked up in the studio.)

hi all.
stan, id really like to know whats yr statement about not filling the setlist tab up.
is it to make it seem like more 20th century radio ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06am
coelacanth:

elf- i appreciate that,as a knowledge junkie & music geek; but -Stan just wants to do a radio show, for the beauty of what a radio show is.(or should be) which should be a fun task. Dave (the spazz) only succumbed last year, and now it's a dying art.
...remember 2 minutes ago when we just listened and Loved it; and if we were really into something listened very carefully at mic breaks...and if we didn't catch it called the station to ask what it was..(?)
i know it is dying, but i miss that. it's gotten more interactive yet less personal,as a multi-media,multi-sensory event.
i'm making assumptions her (i'm a wee bit drunk!) but i think the beauty of radio is being compromised by all the other activity involved now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07am
coelacanth:

...that's my statement,coincidentally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am
Sem Chumbo:

Well said, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am
coelacanth:

Thank you Sem.

i really do need sleep though.
have a great night/day
Thanks Stan...and i appologise if my assumptions are incorrect!
Avatar 5:19am
bibi:

well, assumptions are never incorrect, they can be agreed or not.
not being a fluent english listener, i like getting a written hint about what's happening(and then wfmu created clicky stars and sem melted the whole nova scotia)... anyway i know this is damn capricious from me and doesnt prevent me from enjoying the show !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@coel Indeed, well said. I swing between wanting the interactive instant-knowledge thing, and enjoying the magic of late night freeform radio where you sometimes hear something stunning and then it's gone forever and you'll know what it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Sorry, that should be "...you'll never know what it was"
Avatar 5:30am
bibi:

@elf, yep. true, we know too much. afx said something about the fact that we knew much less and much more back in preinternet times. it necessarily sounds nostalgic but discovering a band (in an encyclopedic way) at that time was something big. now it is daily life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am
coelacanth:

Thank you. i'm glad i was understood! i do also Love having all that info at my fingertips.
i guess it's that i've listened to radio my whole life & kept a notebook handy to write down everything i liked or hated...(i only got on this internet thing about 2 years ago when my receiver antenna failed.)
true- sometimes it was frustrating when the dj didn't say,or speak clearly...but,such is Life, hey? i still enjoyed the program.
okay then! goodnight good people!
(i really am exhausted.)

(well said too...what you both have said here,by the way!)

here, loving the radio, interactive or not

AFX 2015 : "For years, I could listen to jungle and nick things from them, but they didn't know I existed. It was a separate world. But that world doesn't exist any more. It's all merged into this global Internet world. It's a real shame. I really don't like that. But that's just globalization. It's got good sides as well. But scenes aren't allowed to develop on their own any more. Everyone knows about everything."
