I had a friend who prepped his kitchen ceiling for painting by flinging overcooked spaghetti upward until there was a fairly even, random distribution. It need to few days to dry before painting, but it gave a nice effect.
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 3:43pm Milson:

Never experienced Alice Coltrane, but I have sat and absorbed the core Jookloo Duo in this here Trio... great folks are out there vibin' against the odds. Highly recommended if they saunter back to the States
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/15/15 3:45pm Ike:

Nice sounds! Wish I could make it for movie night tonight in JC, but I mis-scheduled the implosion of a quasar. Sigh.
  Thu. 1/15/15 3:46pm Mandee Patinkkin:

Brian, did the spaghetti stay up there after the painting or was it intended to dry up and fall off? I have a great A. Coltrane CD, with "satyananda" or something (song title). Heard it first right here.

Mandee, was it Journey To Satchidananda?
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 3:56pm βrian:

The spaghetti adhered really well. Any dangling pieces were broken off flush. Then two coats of latex with a long-nap roller.

It was beautiful.

Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 4:16pm Polyus:

I was let down by The Babadook, myself. But a friend of mine had a different take on it that makes me think I viewed it from the wrong perspective. Probably better not say more and spoil it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/15/15 4:16pm SeanG:

yeah I'll see anything by Mike Leigh
  Thu. 1/15/15 4:16pm Piker:

The Babadook - not so good. Monster is unveiled in the first 20 minutes. Its basically about about grief and anger.
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 4:16pm Cecile:

The trailer for the Babadook makes it look like your average arty horror movie.

I too want to see Mr. Turner.
  Thu. 1/15/15 4:18pm Mandee Patinkkin:

Mike Leigh is great, to me. I'm in one of those times where I just ain't been to the movies for a while. I want to see almost all of these.

Birdman was good. It was great to see Michael Keaton in something again.
Babadook was good, but it's not a typical horror film. If you go into it expecting that, you will most likely be let down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/15/15 4:28pm Lewis:

is this from the Destroy all Monsters comp that Ken was playing yesterday by any chance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/15/15 4:30pm Lewis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/15/15 4:32pm DCE:

Lewis, I would think so...even though it's a great band name I can't think of any other "Destroy All Monsters" that would be on FMU
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 4:33pm Polyus:

I was really into the film for the most part, but I guess it was the third act (if you want to call it that) that felt a little weak to me. But Essie Davis is really impressive.
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 4:34pm Polyus:

Oh hey, shameless plug - my gf did the cover art for that Sun Ra record Fabio just played a cut from. Turned out really nice.
  Thu. 1/15/15 4:35pm trs:

I guess 'theta'.
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 4:36pm Claw!:

@Polyus - Yeah, the ending was a little "meh," but overall, I'd say it was a pretty good movie. And yes, Essie Davis' performance was fantastic!

Philo and I watched a wild old film ('32) over the weekend: "Kongo" with Walter Huston in a great scenery-chewing role. It's extraordinary the subject matter tackled way back then.

Wow! Great record! Hey, Fabio and listeners, I was lurking here until now. Great show
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 5:01pm Philo Gristle:

KONGO is a fantastic oddball jungle film based on a play that was also made into a Tod Browning flick with Lon Chaney, WEST OF ZANZIBAR. Though it was Huston who originated the role of the crippled vengeful 'king' of his little domain on stage...

As for modern films, we did catch UPSTREAM COLOR finally, Shane Carruth's follow-up to the fine PRIMER, but it was too abstract, like second-rate Tarkovsky, and while it did coalesce by the end it took too long to do so...

Cool, too, that I have music box in my newest track (to premiere tomorrow at SC).
Avatar Thu. 1/15/15 5:32pm doca:

@Philo: I didn't liked that Upstream Color, I don't like that style of editing in which every scene seems like "oh my god an epiphany is happening" and then cut, new scene, new epiphany. It looked like an excruciatingly long music video.
