Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Or maybe do panic: www.theawl.com... - "I'm stuck in a revolving door."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 11:57am listener james from westwood:

Jeff, that story justified my never using revolving doors. That and the end of "The Godfather."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 11:59am Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: I liked the dad's response: “Is this a metaphor?”

Warming greets, UM, Jeff and James (and et al to come). Despite depressing events, I planned to be more actively listening today, but I'm caught up working on a new piece and want to keep on that roll. I'll try to make it back here and there on breaks. ☼

Revolving doors give you a breath of fresh air every second -- or not, depending on which side of them you're on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 12:11pm pacific standard simon:

Just don't get your superhero cape caught in one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 12:12pm listener james from westwood:

My wife asked me where the phrase that was stuck in her head, "Ish Kabibble", came from -- and I was able to supply her with a mostly satisfactory answer.
  Fri. 1/9/15 12:16pm Dean:

I don't believe doors revolve. They were all created with hinges.
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 12:17pm still b/p:

Ah, Isham wrote It Had to Be You. My fresh knowin' for the day. And now I also know that even Travolta covered It Had To Be You. Oh, well.

The central shaft IS a hinge -- leading straight to Hell, where it powers the devices waiting for Dick Cheney. So USE that revolving door!

That was Central Shaft's second album, wasn't it? "Waiting for Dick Cheney"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 12:23pm Jeff Golick:

Central shaft...Dick Cheney...could Rod McKeun be next?

Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 1:00pm ndbob:

great - and very rare record on Grand - the original label
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

When researching, I was unsure. It's definitely rarer on Grand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 1:03pm Alex In Illinois:

Unless you're thinking of falling in love with Sharon Tate.
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 1:08pm Lane Steelpicker:

Blowed up bad. On a normal week, I go to bed about 7 or 8 AM in Jersey. We're 4 or 5 hours late. Getting ready to lay down with you in the earphones and a Pratchett book in my eyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

ABC Dunhill buried Emitt.

  Fri. 1/9/15 1:16pm Dean:

Lindsey Buckingham is big in my home. My kids refer to me as Daddy Buckinghams. No relation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 1:16pm Alex In Illinois:

I don't remember Buckingham's guitar sounding that good. That was the best Fleetwood Mac track I ever heard.

Really enjoyed that version of that one.
  Fri. 1/9/15 1:34pm Dean:

@Unclear: Most are used, but some are still sealed, even after all these years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 1:38pm Uncle Michael:

  Fri. 1/9/15 1:53pm Dean:

Another Fall song: Haydn's "Die Schöpfung."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

Who is the bass player, Lane?
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 1:57pm Lane Steelpicker:

Great "Hey Joe" or greatest "Hey Joe?"
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:00pm Lane Steelpicker:

Wow. All the groove scientifically removed for later use
  Fri. 1/9/15 2:00pm Dean:

Without a doubt it's the greatest guitar distortion imitation of a modem connection "Hey Joe."

I seem to recall a 3-hour "Hey Joe" fest somewhere in WFMU's murky depths, but that survey likely only scratched the surface. Never too late for another! (And kicking ass at the 2-hour mark, this show is!)

Mike, they sure did. They also made them for floor. You can hear mine on the track "Bluesy in D" on my youtube channel. www.youtube.com...

I'm gonna leave "Hey Joe" to the experts.

Hey, Dean, thanks again for that tremendous ref. work you did for me last week on BLUES, etc. and Albert King!

One of the coolest things I know about Westerberg is he favorited [♥ed/liked] my SoundCloud cover of "Colours" -- and I sit in his like list right beneath Bob Mould -- woo-hoo!
  Fri. 1/9/15 2:30pm Dean:

Very, very cool, kat330! You're welcome. But please don't disturb me. I'm trying to make up, er, figure out who played trombone for Ellington.
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:30pm kat330:

Seeing is believing: soundcloud.com...

very cool, kat
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:34pm ndbob:

@kat Very nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 2:34pm Jeff Golick:

Seems likely that the trombonist was Juan Tizol?
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:34pm kat330:

Hi, Bob! Thanks, well wishers! Actually that's been in his list for quite a long while now. Just now decided I was in the right company to "toot my own horn" (not a trombone).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 2:36pm pacific standard simon:

1951 was a difficult year for the Ellington Orchestra -- players were jumping ship all over the place. Britt Woodman joined on trombone that year, but I don't know if that's him for certain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 2:36pm Uncle Michael:

That looks right, Jeff. Valve trombone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/9/15 2:37pm pacific standard simon:

Jeff could be right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 2:37pm Jeff Golick:

The other possibility is Quentin Jackson, it seems. Or the Woodman, as @pss noted.
  Fri. 1/9/15 2:37pm Dean:

Yeah, diary entries and other records indicate Tizol, Woodman, and Quentin Jackson were all playing with him. I don't know much about Ellington's revolving door (heh heh). Hard to say who had the solo.
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:39pm kat330:

Heh, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company C" ties my last comment into a tidy sonic bow. And as I was working on a Mould-y composition before taking this much needed break from the headphones, it's all so nice and neat in a world gone mad.

  Fri. 1/9/15 2:40pm Dean:

Are you suggesting Bette Midler played trombone for Ellington, kat?
Avatar Fri. 1/9/15 2:41pm kat330:

Ha, yes, ever-increasing loops of a bow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/9/15 2:43pm Jeff Golick:

Looking forward to getting some added Colour(s) after the show, @kat330...

Speaking of our mad world, I woke up in the middle of the night with the thought scientists need to invent a serum, some vaccine that when injected produces a sense of humor in the vaccinee.<--?

Thanks, Jeff! JT did a very minor visual to go behind it at YouTube, too. His cleverer backdrop for one of my tracks is his Betty Boop -- not Midler -- cartoon pastiche for "Black Crow Blues."
  Fri. 1/9/15 2:45pm Dean:

We have that serum, kat. It's called gin.

I wonder if we smell as bad to a dog as dogs smell to us. Only reason I prefer a cat as a pet over a dog is the aroma factor. I suppose if I had the funds to have someone groom the pet every day, but as that isn't going to happen, I'll stick to a self-grooming animal.

But after a cat eats some tuna or other canned catfood, then "cleans" herself or himself, he or she becomes a big cat food aroma distributor.
