Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:21am the Canterbury wood-elf:

"Why am I so short?" to quote Mr. Wyatt
RW fans should check out the new biography by Marcus O'Dair (this new compilation ties in with that).

WOW. great cover
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:24am GeesyCreesy:

These covers are excellent

Woah, much props to J. on this cover.
  Mon. 12/8/14 9:25am SwazeyLane:

I was lucky to see Soft Machine in a little jazz club in NY. Bottom of the End I think... Wow they were great!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:26am the Canterbury wood-elf:

"Shipbuilding" was specifically written for Wyatt by Costello, so the latter's version is more like a cover than Wyatt's, if you get me...
And you'd almost have thought Mazzy Star wrote this for Mascis, it )works so well.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:26am common:

yea, good 'un!

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:33am GeesyCreesy:

@thee Canterbury: ditto what Cheri-Pi posted. I wasn't aware that Wyatt recorded that song first.
  Mon. 12/8/14 9:33am SwazeyLane:

Year? I want to say 68?... It was with Hugh hopper on bass... Robert played a small kit and wailed on it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:35am Marcel M:

When pop up messes up I just switch to 128kmp3 and it almost always works fine.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:38am Marcel M:

Yeah the 128k is glitching now too. But not as bad as pop up.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:39am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Swazey Could've been March '68 calyx.perso.neuf.fr...
except that would've been Kevin Ayers on bass.
If it was definitely Hopper on bass then it would have been July '71 at the Gaslight, shortly before Wyatt got ejected from the band. Lucky you, in either case!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:41am DCE:

boy Keith...that's awful!

@Sem Chumbo: Phil Spector
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:54am Marcel M:

That make a lot of sense. Especially with this strained voice ending. Phil is the man baby.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 9:55am Sem Chumbo:

Thansk , Chris. That explains everything. A producer with as great a taste for too much in his music as in his hairpieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 9:56am Greg from Bloomfield:

@bob: You just named your first solo record.

That's Three Doug Night, to Gary Larson.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:12am Cecile:

Wow, interesting chord progression for AC/DC. Almost doomy.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:12am pierre:

@ cecile : sorry, "apt" ?
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:13am Cecile:

apt means completely appropriate.

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:15am Cheri Pi:

you're Toast rich C$.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:15am PKNY:

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:15am Cecile:

You know it. Toast rich, $ poor
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:15am common:

when the record goes past the last song and the needle makes all this noise
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:31am DCE:

Vomir caused some controversy on one of our local college radio stations. Someone called in and asked if they were off the air because all they could hear was static. The programmer was told not to play "Harsh Noise Wall" anymore and he quit the station. Big rage in our noise community.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:32am Andrew Waterloo:

It's like he's recording the sound my mind makes when I don't get morning coffee.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:33am Chris from DC:

This is actually kind of soothing.
  Mon. 12/8/14 10:33am blee:

Vomir is the morning, yes!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:33am Cheri Pi:

WTF DCE??? That's so disappointing. our local community radio noise DJ's are always underfire too from the board of trustees.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:33am Cecile:

this sounds like a loop of waves crashing. It's pretty soothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:34am Marcel M:

Woah DCE, thats pretty gnarly and cool of that DJ to quit. And I agree Chris, washed out noise like this becomes soothing after a while.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:34am Cheri Pi:

Exactly CfDC and C$
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:34am Cecile:

Arto is a great noisemaker, and an adequate bossa nova artist. I prefer the former.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:35am Cecile:

Most other people prefer the latter. As Richard Meltzer might say, "how perfectly goddamn delightful for them."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:35am DCE:

the station, which is a solid and good station otherwise, took a lot of shit for it, but has not changed their stance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:35am Marcel M:

@Cecile: The mix of people at the show was really funny. It was a bunch of people that only knew his bossa nova stuff and bewildered fans that didn't expect it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 10:36am Andrew Waterloo:

always blame the bossa nova
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:36am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:40am Cheri Pi:

@Cheri Pi i think i'm finding out that harsh noise wall goes pretty well with just about everything.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 10:42am Rev. Turnip Druid:

are white death Christian black metal or are they just into getting frozen to death?
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:02am Dan B From Upstate:

I've had hiccups on the stream, too. I just assumed it was my work computer's fault for being cut-rate. Anyway, Keep F5-ing to make the stutter go away.

it'd be sinfully delicious. white chocolate latte basically with some crushed red-hots spattered on top of the whipped cream./
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:05am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Cecile Apparently freezing to death is the best option (if you have to choose one). Painless, and quite pleasant apparently (not sure how that was discovered).
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:06am Cecile:

there are nuances. Sometimes it's Popeye, sometimes it's Pappy, and sometimes it's Cookie Monster.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:06am Chris M.:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 11:12am Jeff:

So if the 128k MP3 stream is glitchy for you, try plugging this:

into your VLC or iTunes or whatever's your favorite network music player. That stream is served via a whole different network path to a whole different server out in Internet-land, and there will be different (and for some people, better) states of network congestion along the route.

If the regular main stream (this one)

works okay for you, though, it should actually sound slightly better because of better-sounding hardware in the chain.

@Brian i've only heard one Grasscut track (the one with Wyatt's backing vocals), which was quite pleasant. i shall have to explore further.
