Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, PS Simon! I'm trying to figure out how long our supplies will last before I'm forced to go out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:22pm northguineahills:

Trailer hippies, either a good concept for a coffee table book or a name of a band.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:23pm Tony Coulter:

Sorry -- got sick of looking at the trailer hippies. Back into the closet with them.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:23pm Tony Coulter:

what is that, a cattle prod?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:24pm pacific standard simon:

Between Friday night and Saturday morning, we got a light dusting of snow, and it refuses to go away. The silly stuff is still frozen in place, in select spots.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

By the by, Kuni Kawachi's "friends" are the Flower Travelling Band
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:26pm Tony Coulter:

@ DCE: It's a device for tuning cattle.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:30pm listener james from westwood:

PSS, a friend in Sammamish, WA posted a picture of some sort of frozen mist coming down out of a sunny sky this morning (her time). Looked pretty but might be hell for driving.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:32pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you turned up, Turnip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:33pm pacific standard simon:

There's all sorts of weird local weather up here on the Sound, but nothing as downright dangerous for driving as the tule fog in California's Central Valley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:35pm dale:

have to admit i haven't listened in a long time as my laptop speakers stink. this is delicious - you need to be back on air so i can listen proper-like
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:37pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Dale -- nice to see you back! Maybe I can get the station to bring the main air studio to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:38pm pacific standard simon:

Or, you know, you could get some of those plug-in speakers I always see at the drug store...
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:39pm Dean:

This from the guy who would shortly produce the Dolls!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:40pm northguineahills:

This is from when the Rascal Reporters were originally active?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:40pm pacific standard simon:

Moving the station to Portland would work for me -- I could volunteer during the marathon.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:41pm Tony Coulter:

@ NGH: Yeppers. There's a mountain of unreleased stuff that's been coming out over the last couple of years, on Bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:43pm pacific standard simon:

But is are the call letters "KFMU" available?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:43pm northguineahills:

Sounded almost like live drum & bass, or one of Yamataka Eyes more frenic percussive projects, purty darn nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:43pm pacific standard simon:

"is are" -- oh boy!
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:44pm Dean:

I have wondered when or whether Gryphon ever gets played on WFMU. One of the great unsung British bands. I missed a chance to hear them live (maybe at the Marquee?) in 1976, for 50p. Heard Richard Harvey at Wigmore Hall, though, doing a Baroque recorder recital.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

Crumhorn rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:45pm pacific standard simon:

Gryphon were cool because one of them played bassoon, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:46pm Jeff Golick:

Bassoon lovers unite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:46pm Carmichael:

pss, I can personally attest to the NorCal tule fog. Just drove in it yesterday. About a 30 ft vision tunnel ....
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:46pm Dean:

If bassoon lovers unite, we'll just have more bassoon lovers.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

Jeff G! Jeff G! Greets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:47pm Jeff Golick:

Hiya, Tony C.!

@Dean: I don't see the trouble there...?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

Lindsay Cooper is definitely responsible for my own bassoon-o-philia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:48pm Cecile:

Tony! All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:49pm Cecile:

what's the theme for today?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

Hi there, Cecile!

No real theme -- but more psych than usual (usual of late, anyhow)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:50pm pacific standard simon:

I got my bassoon-o-philia from several assorted Zappa records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:50pm Jeff Golick:

Karen "drop that bassoon" Borca over here, Tony.
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:50pm Dean:

I was in LA over the long weekend. LA has a superb, relatively speaking, classical radio station, KUSC. There I heard a bassoon player lamenting the dearth of works featuring the instrument.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:51pm Cecile:

sounds groovy.

Drummer Some Stream = XM radio for the undefinable, the uncategorizable, and the unruly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:52pm Jeff Golick:

It's the uncanny valley of radio, Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:52pm Cecile:

Karen Borca! Haven't heard that name in years.
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:53pm clayton s:

Todd is Godd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:53pm Carmichael:

Though I walk through the valley of prog, I shall fear no evil. For I have a bassoon.
Avatar    Tue. 12/2/14 12:53pm V Priceless:

hey Cecile! we're gettin' psyched-out here
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:54pm Cecile:

who saw Todd at his recent shows? How were they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:54pm Carmichael:

2 Todds in 1 show! Now, if you'll only play The Viking Song ...
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

I did, Cecile, with the chamber group Ethel. He/they were excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:55pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Tony ! I think I had this Rundgren album, but it disappeared.
  Tue. 12/2/14 12:55pm Dean:

Steve Hackett's first solo album includes oboe and cor Anglais.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:55pm Cecile:

He did an insane version of that before Hall and Oates a few years back. People kept yelling "play your hit!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:55pm Cecile:

Carm, that sounds great.
I have to send you some "PJ Olsson Rock Camp" pictures when I get back home.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:56pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, Webhamster H! It's not too hard an album to replace, fortunately.
Avatar    Tue. 12/2/14 12:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

99 luftbassoons?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:56pm Carmichael:

Hey Cecile, that would be awesome! Thanks!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 12:58pm Tony Coulter:

The drummer on this track was apparently next door.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:58pm Jeff Golick:

This is fun.

So is it commonly understood now that the 1970s were in fact the best decade for music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 12:59pm Uncle Michael:

Give the Neighbor Some!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 12:59pm Jeff Golick:

Mr. Keillor described holiday music as "seeping from the speakers like an insecticide mist." (Or some such.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:38pm dale:

never heard arcesia other than butterfly mind. he's quite the crooner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:38pm Carmichael:

I haven't heard this Arcesia track. He is so .... emotive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:40pm Cecile:

tell me more about these Rascal Reporters
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:40pm pacific standard simon:

Christmas aint Xmas without some dog and cat records.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Wow. The voice on the Arcesia track sounded a heckuva lot like Ellis Chadbourne (who also "performed" under the name Thomas Burns)
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:42pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Big faves of mine, obviously. They manage to combine Egg, Henry Cow, the Residents, the Carpenters, and maybe Todd Rundgren into their own unique brew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:43pm Cecile:

are they current or an older group?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:43pm Cecile:

and where are they from, if you know?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:43pm Tony Coulter:

Brtherhood = Friendsound, and is ex-Paul Revere & the Raiders!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:45pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Now defunct, sadly, as one of the members died a while back. However, there's a huge amount of unreleased material, which has been pouring out over the last few years. They were from the suburbs of Detroit (Oak Park).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:45pm Cecile:

they are pretty fascinating, from what I've heard today.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:45pm Tony Coulter:

They were a duo, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:46pm Cecile:

wow, that's even cooler
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:46pm Carmichael:

Tony, you had Rascal Reporters on tape hiss a while back, I recall. Do you archive the comments board for those shows? I had posted a link there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:46pm dale:

here's a less hystrionic mr. arcesi

www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:46pm northguineahills:

This is the first time I've ever seen Cecile not familiar w/ a band or musician of any genre. It had to happen some time ;)
  Tue. 12/2/14 1:47pm Nardo:

Hey Tony. Always enjoy hearing Electric Eels as well (here in OH). Here's an article on John Morton & X_X from the NYT a few days back http://goo.gl/l4NPsJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:48pm Cecile:

Ngh, truly there is so much I don't know, and mostly on this show!!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:51pm Tony Coulter:

Autoharp rock!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:51pm Tony Coulter:

@ Nardo: Yes -- I saw that article -- very interesting. I have yet to hear the X_X stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:52pm Brian in UK:

Hello Tony and other reverse lookin' folks.

I am a Cor Anglais kind of guy.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

Nihao, Brian!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:54pm βrian:

Hola, BUK. Still dosing on the erythromycin or whatnot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:55pm Cecile:

Love ACC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:56pm Brian in UK:

Thanks for asking βrian. Just been to the hospital. The offening impacted wisdom is coming out one week today at 14:30 our time under local. So I will be 'Dribbling Brian in UK'
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

Gaaaah, sad to hear it, Brian. Hope the ensuing painkillers are up to the task.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

The Bee Gees have some whiskey and gin to start the numbing, if that helps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 1:59pm Brian in UK:

It has been moderately pain free james. I have not touched a drop for four weeks. Did I just write that. Scheeesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 1:59pm Kurt Gottschalk:

great show, tony, and the bee gees penulticapped it!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 1:59pm βrian:

I remember having four teeth extracted under local. The sound effects kind of got my attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:00pm Brian in UK:

Sad thing is I do not feel any better for not imbibing. Got a bottle of 2004 Barolo for Christmas though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:01pm Cecile:

Okay, where do I start with the Rascal Reporters?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:01pm βrian:

Oh, damn. Barolo sets my heart to fluttering. Yum!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Kurt! And .. hola!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:01pm Brian in UK:

Four at once is tough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:01pm Kurt Gottschalk:

oh wait, you have another hour don't you? sorry. i get you 2 and 3 hour shows mixed up over here.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:03pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Maybe this one: rateyourmusic.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:03pm Cecile:

cool, thanks Tony!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:03pm Tony Coulter:

@ Kurt: Yep, they haven't pulled the plug on me yet.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:07pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: There's s ton of cheap download-only Rascal Reporters stuff on bandcamp -- such as all the tracks I've been playing today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:07pm Cecile:

I will be hitting that at home. Right now "we're god" is downloading on my 'pod.
  Tue. 12/2/14 2:08pm MrFab:

i wish the Rascal Reporters would put up their 'freaks obscure' album - some of the craziest stuff ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:09pm DCE:

love the Dukes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:09pm pacific standard simon:

Ted Nugent, trailer hippie.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:10pm Tony Coulter:

@ MrFab: Should be up at some point, actually .. it's definitely in the works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:10pm Cecile:

he hated the rest of the Amboy Dukes so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:11pm Cecile:

If he could erase that part of his life, you know he would.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:12pm DCE:

pretty clumsy lyrically but the music was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:12pm pacific standard simon:

I think he sorta did -- although he hung on to the band name as long as it was to his advantage.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Tony, you are cooking up one of your truly miraculous shows today. Better than your run-of-the-mill miraculous shows, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:14pm Cecile:

oh, yeah, he was no dummy when it came to money.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:14pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Commander Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:14pm Cecile:

those phoned-in miraculous shows, right Doug? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:15pm pacific standard simon:

Are you angling for a boxed set in your holiday stocking, Doug?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Those pick-it-from-your-nose-and-eat-it-when-no-one-is-looking miraculous shows, right, Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:17pm Cecile:

hahahahahaha, right Doug!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:17pm Doug Schulkind:

@pacific standard simon
Another year of Tony's show is the perfect gift. If only I could figure how to wrap it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:19pm Cecile:

put it all on a jewel-encrusted USB drive.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:19pm Tony Coulter:

Originals of that Children of the Mushroom track go for a pretty penny -- no, a gorgeous penny: www.popsike.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:20pm Cecile:

of course responsibly sourced semi-precious jewels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:20pm pacific standard simon:

Blood rhinestones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:20pm Cecile:

rare + really good = $$$$$
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:21pm Cecile:

cruelty-free cubic zirconium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:22pm listener james from westwood:

That pronunciation is correct! It's a wacky Tolkienism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:22pm Brian in UK:

Short of the Silmarillion? Another Tolkein.......
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:23pm Brian in UK:

Tolkein or Tokin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:24pm Cecile:

Tolkien would probably <3 Jesus Rock.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:24pm βrian:

Tolkein specified the pronunciation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:25pm Brian in UK:

I see Hildegarde of Bingen as being his favorite babe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:25pm Cecile:

Bermuda Triangle?!?!
We partied with them up in Houghton back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:25pm Cecile:

My friends got them to play there thanks to a student grant.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:26pm βrian:

Smoked whitefish with pickled eggs and beer, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:27pm Brian in UK:

Great show, Tony. Got to do something with a piece of haddock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:27pm Cecile:

Course it was partying over Kahlua Supremes and Doritos on bean bag chairs at the apartment I would later share with 3 other dudes. but it was still partying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:27pm Brian in UK:

βrian those smoked crevettes are wonderful.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:28pm Tony Coulter:

Happy haddock, Brian in UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:28pm northguineahills:

Man, I want some haddock now.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:29pm βrian:

We told our Italian guest the the Thanksgiving octopus was fresh-caught from Lake Superior.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't you believe in cod, Brain in UK?
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

Hmm. Do Jesus rock bands stuff their pants with god pieces?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:32pm pacific standard simon:

Codless foreigner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:35pm Jeff Golick:

In scrod i trust.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:36pm Cecile:

Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:36pm βrian:

I preyed hard, and cod told me to reexamine my filets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:36pm Cecile:

I had beer and pickled eggs up in the U.P. but no smoked whitefish this time around. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:38pm northguineahills:

I love smoke whitefish,
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:38pm Brian in UK:

I will only believe in cod if I get it in whiting.
Good night.
  Tue. 12/2/14 2:39pm Dean:

To my admittedly limited knowledge, Oz Fox of Stryper does not augment his, uh, junk. Which reminds me of the joke about the young guy who couldn't attract women. A friend advised him to put a potato in his pants. He gave it a try, but several days later he complained that if anything women were keeping a further distance. "Try putting it in front next time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:40pm Cecile:

hahahaha Dean.
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:40pm βrian:

The trend is toward vaped whitefish, these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:41pm steve:

mmm whitefish
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:41pm Tony Coulter:

I prefer to call it Caucasian American fish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 12/2/14 2:42pm steve:

haha.

what an amazing show today. it's joined the elite Club Clicky Star!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:42pm βrian:

It's the fish that plays frisbee, wears sweaters, and goes camping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:44pm northguineahills:

Synths away! Not familiar w/ Emerald Web, nice!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

"Dragon Wings and Wizard Tales" was just reissued this year. To me, it's much better than their later stuff, which is very new age-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:53pm Cecile:

well, gotta run, great show! Have a good week all!
Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:54pm Tony Coulter:

Ciao, Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 12/2/14 2:55pm DCE:

Avatar Tue. 12/2/14 2:58pm Tony Coulter:

  Tue. 12/16/14 11:13pm Dennis Swanson:

Thanks for the play time... Children of the Mushroom. Some of the new releases were home recordings of our practices, wish we could have done them in a studio...
