V Priceless:
Hey Gaylord! How are ya? |
![]() |
![]() @V Priceless: Ask me in two hours. Right now I'm delegating all thought and feelings to this show. How are you? |
![]() |
![]() Gaylord feels pretty good. I can tell by listening. Greetings all. |
![]() |
![]() Hi, Uncle Michael. I'll accept your assessment. |

JakeGould:
Today was a weird day but this show is good so far. So hey! |

V Priceless:
@ Gaylord - not too shabby, thanx! Hey Uncle M! |
![]() |
![]() "Sudden Death Overtime" is a good song title on a day when NFL football is being played. |
![]() |
![]() @Ken From Hyde Park: I may have to flag that comment as a penalty against my "no NFL talk" rule. |
![]() |
![]() Upon further review, the comment stands. |

Mark:
This Rotary Connection track is simultaneously groovy and hilarious.

Sun. 11/30/14 5:24pm
dale:
tuned in and am getting turned on in turn. was minnie ripperton in the rotary club? |

V Priceless:

Sadly there was no overtime for Mary Hansen, but it's nice to still hear her on WFMU. |

Sun. 11/30/14 5:26pm
glenn:
how about c.f.l.? it's grey cup day. |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:26pm
Mark:
Actually, what I like to do is watch that forbidden sport on the TV with the sound off while Gaylord's tunes provide the soundtrack. It doesn't sync up quite as perfectly as "The Wizard of Oz" and "Dark Side of the Moon," but it works pretty well.
![]() |
![]() @glenn: My favorite Grey Cup matchup -- the Roughriders vs. the Rough Riders! |
![]() |
![]() CFL talk is allowed on this board. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:30pm
glenn:
today it's the stampeders vs. the tiger-cats. |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:30pm
Mark:
I must confess I've been accused of roughriding once or twice.
![]() |
![]() I like the Grey Cup ceremonial kick-off. I see that the pre-game show starts at 6:00 ET, so there's time to get snacks lined up. |
![]() |
![]() @glenn: I'm really not trying to make fun of the redundancy of CFL names, but Tiger-Cats is apretty great one -- as opposed to what, "Tiger-Bears"? Go, Steagles! Go, Carpets! |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:34pm
glenn:
it's always a great game. you never know what weird whacky shit will transpire. |
![]() |
![]() I'm over CFLs. It's LEDs from here on out. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:35pm
JakeGould:
Saskatchewan & Ottawa… Now that is one rivalry. |
![]() |
![]() @glenn: Even without Justin Bieber this year? |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:36pm
glenn:
don't ask me, although i think at one time there was a team named the tigers, and one named the cats and they merged. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:36pm
dale:
screw football. is there a good game of nine-pin on somewhere? |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:36pm
glenn:
the beebs probably doesn't even know what month it is. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:37pm
JakeGould:
“…the tigers, and one named the cats and they merged.” Catigers! |
![]() |
![]() @glenn: You do celebrate Bo-vember in Canada, right? |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:38pm
sugarwolf:
What is this, Sportsy Talk?!?
Sun. 11/30/14 5:38pm
Mark:
So now both female vocalists from Stereolab have been represented. I never realized Mary did any solo albums. Eerily prophetic title of Mary's song considering her final circumstances.
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:39pm
glenn:
napoleon dynamite is jake gould. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:39pm
Monica:
now that was a killer diller segue, g. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:40pm
JakeGould:
Glenn, I really hated “Napoleon Dynamite.” I mean I still really hate it. Never found it funny. So please, a new analogy or else. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:41pm
glenn:
ummm. sorry. |
![]() |
![]() @sugarwolf: But it's CANADIAN Sportsy Talk! So you can't be 100% against it. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:41pm
dale:
damn! this joe simon tune is hot, too. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:41pm
JakeGould:
Mark, it was a posthumous E.P. release of a few of her recordings. www.duophonic.com... |
![]() |
![]() @Monica: Thanks! And then Joe Simon goes and gets the digital hiccups! |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:42pm
glenn:
besides, sportsy talk is a great show. bronwyn's a genius. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:44pm
Monica:
so wait, is CanCon in effect here? |
![]() |
![]() @Mark @Jake Gould: I once did a tribute show to Mary (who was a friend) but, as I often do, I didn't call any attention to it at the time. This is actually the first time I've acknowledged it, but it seems appropriate to come clean. |
![]() |
![]() @Monica: Shhh... efd owns that racket! |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:50pm
Mark:
That was such a shock--I'm sure it still is. I have a soft spot for the early years of Stereolab. I have video somewhere of my baby daughter falling asleep in a little swing to a tune from "Emperor Tomato Ketchup." That baby goes to Fordham now. Time flies. Great show--your segues are great. They shouldn't work, but they do!
![]() |
![]() @Mark: "They shouldn't work, but they do!" That's WFMU in a sentence. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:57pm
Mugsy:
Hi Gaylord and all on the board. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:58pm
JakeGould:
“They shouldn't work, but they do!” And attempting to make things that don’t seem to work work is art. There. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 5:59pm
V Priceless:
Johnny Maestro (RIP) always did a superb version of this. What a voice. |
![]() |
![]() Hi, Mugsy! |
![]() |
![]() @JakeGould: That's a very good definition! |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:13pm
P-90:
Good evening DJ Gaylord and Friends. I'm glad to see Van McCoy coming up for reappraisal. Actually, I'm still in my Bob Crewe mourning/retrospective phase. His passing kind of got to me. Over the holiday weekend I was listening to his Barbarella soundtrack and falling in love with it again; after the Four Seasons songs he wrote/produced, I maintain that was his finest hour.
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:15pm
JakeGould:
@Gaylord: Thanks. That art epiphany came to me when I was exposed to the works of minimalist artists like Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Walter De Maria and mainly Dan Flavin as well as James Turrelll. What they all did with so little… But then created something so different. That I admire. Also, fuck “Napoleon Dynamite.” I hate that film. |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:17pm
glenn:
we gathered that. vote pedro! |
![]() |
![]() @P-90: The team of Bob Crewe/Bob Gaudio/Charlie Calello need to receivethe kind of love given to, say Bacharach/David -- not that I'm saying they're equals, but the former trio should be discussed in the same breath a little more. |
![]() |
![]() ...joined faceborg, so perhaps the comments boards will get a bit of a break?? - in the meantime - excellent As Ever Mr. GF... |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:20pm
JakeGould:
Impeach Pedro! |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:21pm
Syd:
Good to hear that Richard Hayman Gaylord. Hellen Merrill with Strings is his arrangements and is a not well known gem.
![]() |
![]() @Revolution Rabbit Nov63: I'm surmising you won't be away for too long. We have a way of getting under one's skin. And thanks for the the kindness! |
![]() |
![]() @Syd: True, true. |
![]() |
![]() - oh - I'm listening!...Faceborg wants everybody to use their real names...weird!... |
![]() |
![]() Lovin' Hugo! |
![]() |
![]() @RRN63 - Sounds like you need to go to city hall tomorrow and pick up a change-of-name form. |
![]() |
![]() ...always like 'Fred'... |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:32pm
P-90:
@Gaylord, exactly! Whether or not they are "as significant" as Bacharach and company, those three should really be "discussed more." And Crewe had a real style of his own as a writer-arranger, which developed beautifully no matter which collaborators he was working with.
![]() |
![]() I'm kind of sweet on on the Gaudio/Holmes team. |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:45pm
frenchee:
be still my heart (man): Johnny Hartman AND playlist comments on G's show! Life is good.
![]() |
![]() @frenchee: See, dreams can come true! One of mine did when you just checked in. |

Sun. 11/30/14 6:54pm
TheDJB:
Awesome! Wait, what? | |
![]() |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:54pm
glenn:

![]() |
![]() @glenn: Close -- it's a truckload of post holes. |
![]() |
![]() @glenn: Thanks for being bilingual. |
Sun. 11/30/14 6:55pm
TheDJB:
I will say this ... the Google does not want me to find any information about the Po! So I'll take solace in my prize(s).
