Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 10:13am Alex In Illinois:

@Doug: Yes, exactly, the interview was in Canada, and he talked a lot about the draft.

@still b/p: That gives me an idea! The way I start barbeque fires is by burning paper using one of those small metal chimney things that holds the charcoal above the paper. So my idea is to celebrate the end of election season by barbequing on a fire started using only campaign literature.

Speaking of jazz connections...never heard until recently of Billy Crystal's family jazz links in NY -- dad's record store and weekly shows, the many known names that visited the store and the home; Billy says he was on Billie Holiday's lap to see Shane at the movies. Surprising to me just because I'd think this stuff woulda been inescapably told and TOLD by Crystal himself and eager entertainment profilers over the last thirty years.

Artie in the 'owse!
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:11am Mark:

Listening to "Wahala No Good" while watching Lolita Hula Hoop is quite hypnotic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:12am Doug Schulkind:

I can't tell if this ditty by Noble Adu Kwasi is PRO doobie toking or CON doobie toking.

@Mark
I am pulling you into my lair. Here, grab a lair chair.

Three vowels, three trips of the tongue. What more could one need?
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:18am Mark:

I'm going to say Pro, Doug. Just a hunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:18am Doug Schulkind:

I take my tongue on trips all the time. I have to remember to get it a visa and shots, however.
Avatar Fri. 10/3/14 11:20am βrian:

And affirmative consent, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:20am Doug Schulkind:

I'll be playing some Hungarian funk in the next set. (I promised to always warn you ahead of time. So you can prepare.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:21am Carmichael:

Hey there Doug and Friday funsters. Lolita!
Avatar Fri. 10/3/14 11:21am βrian:

"Please, bring some goulash for all of my friends."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:21am Carmichael:

Hey there Doug and Friday funsters. Lolita!
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:22am aearrie:

Karibu Karibou.

It's 'Karibou ya Bintou' by Tabu Ley Rochereau & L'Afrisa International.
And 'Karibu Ya Bintou' by Bajoli.

Hm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

I knew talk of Hungarian funk would wake you from your slimber, Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

Seen any caribou up in the Northland, aearrie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Fri. 10/3/14 11:24am Uncle Michael:

Raise the lid off the goulash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:24am Carmichael:

More like Lolita and morning lumber. When you're my age, take what you can get.
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:25am aearrie:

Moose, yes.
Caribou, not in situ I don't think, no.
Avatar Fri. 10/3/14 11:26am βrian:

You must mean "morning slumber."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Fri. 10/3/14 11:27am Uncle Michael:

I'm Steinski's opening act. How badass is that?
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:30am Joshua:

Would a request for some penny whistle kwela be unwelcome?
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:31am aearrie:

Mi'kmaq call them 'qalipu' or 'xalibu'.
In Inuktitut, they're known as 'tuktu'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:32am Doug Schulkind:

@Joshua
A capital idea, but none is handy for today

@aerrie

Lil Green is playing here with blues icon Big Bill Broonzy. Next up another R&B singer paired with a another blues icon. Fun!
  Fri. 10/3/14 11:39am Dean:

This Lil Green suddenly brought to mind an LP I have on green vinyl by Jane Green, who sang in the '20s. If I remember correctly, it was a premium for subscribing to Fred Hyatt's opera show on KPFK back in the '80s. Well worth hunting down her stuff, as here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxMz5nmJwvs
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

Basque in all your glory, good listeners!

I'm glad the Steinski show is on the FMU Upcoming Specials page. It should be heralded all next week. As of course should his opening act.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/3/14 11:42am Doug Schulkind:

And the new Steinski mix is FCC-unfriendly!
