just focus on the blinking lights in tonight's gif and relax into a sea of calm

maybe my favorite part of this recording is that you can hear crickets or othe critters in the background

That cut suppressed my rage at the author whose book I'm editing providing nothing for her reference list except a pile of URLs.
Avatar 7:39pm

oh oh. there is no rage like editor rage.

I love love love that track, not enough places on the radio for the half hour opening tracks

this is a good cd, lots of very nice field recordings on it. Found it in a flea market in Kansas City: Super Flea!

Ack, my gf has been given her 2 week notice and after that, she has a 10 day grace period before she has go back to Mexico. We've been together for 7 years, and lived together for 6 years. Anyone know how to do a fast City Hall ceremony?
Avatar 8:11pm
northguineahills:

That's an H1b visa
Avatar 8:15pm
Jesse K:

oh man, that's tough. I know friends who just got married at city hall but they were both citizens, not sure how that would be different
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Mike East:

nice mix, DJ JK. sorry to hear that northguineahills. Wish I had an answer for you
Avatar 8:19pm
northguineahills:

She worked for the same design firm for 6 years. 2/3rds of their employees have H1b visas, and the foreigners rarely get any raises or promotions. It's sick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
listener james from westwood:

Awful to hear, NGH, on all points.
Avatar 8:25pm
northguineahills:

I love sound dimension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, my parents had a guy living in their basement apartment that lost his job and subsequently his visa because the the government felt the guy didn't interview enough applicants and was paying too little. Now nobody has that job.
Avatar 8:29pm
northguineahills:

How, is anyone supposed to get up and leave and move out of the country w/ 10 days notice, b/tn the logistics, and the cost of last minute shipping and airfare?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Mike East:

they're looking for help at my job if anyone wants to be a truck supervisor
Avatar 8:30pm
northguineahills:

They probably won't sponsor a visa. I wouldn't mind doing that. I'm meeting a CPA for a part timer, and next week, an interview w/ a Princeton mapping firm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Andrew Waterloo:

People in immigration seem to run on the mindset that sending someone home from a country is like sending someone home from college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Mike East:

what happens if she doesn't leave? prison? deportation? do they pay for a ticket back to Mexico?
Avatar 8:37pm
northguineahills:

If they determine if she was here past her grace period, her visa can be denied when she get's her next job. If the marriage thing doesn't work at city hall (we were waiting until I had money to do a proper wedding), then she'll have to go back to Mexico and use a tourist visa to interview, if no interviews happen w/in the next 24 days.
Avatar 8:37pm
Jesse K:

kickstarter?
Avatar 8:38pm
Jesse K:

sorry, don't mean to joke about that, it can be a bad deal to overstay a visa
Avatar 8:39pm
northguineahills:

yeah, it sounds like it Andrew Waterloo. People w/ her visa type have been here for awhile, have leases on apts, and tons of crap as well, let alone being in relationships. On a selfish note, I can't pay my rent and bills w/o her.
Avatar 8:41pm
northguineahills:

Once Jesse is done, I'm going to go get wasted. Haven't done that for a while, and my interview isn't until 2. Crazy day.
Avatar 8:52pm
northguineahills:

Well, since she is on her wedding to her Mexican friend getting married to a Canadian in DC right now, I have the flat to myself (turns up the subs)

cool, have a great night James, see you on the internet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm

ngh, I've seen a lot of people get court house, vegas style, or other fancy weddings and then throw a decent reception a few months down the road.
Avatar 9:16pm
northguineahills:

@Andrew: I was saving up before my project was canned by DeBlasio. The only jobs I have been offered have been too far outside the City for mass transit, So, I think that's what I'm doing. I have had friend do the exact same think recently, but they were all American citizens.

I didn't know Spectral Sound Recs was still around. I got to check out in a few minutes. Thanks, Jesse! If anyone knows anyone that has any advice for my situation, I'd really appreciate it. Cheers, mates!
Avatar 9:27pm

yeah, this is brand new last month but I'm playing the Oneohtrix Point Never on top of it to be fair
Avatar 9:28pm
Jesse K:

Are you looking specifically for visa advice or navigating the nyc court house wedding stuff?
Avatar 9:31pm

A little bit of A, a little bit of B. I have little time to work w/. Forgoing getting wasted to get some sleep to wake up early tomorrow to work on this. Thanks again!

Distorted Henri Chopin, new to me, I've only heard the usual tone poetry.
