I am sold on Sony's MDR-7056 and MDR-V6. I wear headphones nearly five or more hours a day. Really good sound, to my ears, too.
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:07pm Gary:

Thanks for the tip, Rich!
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:08pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

hi there, gary - wonderful topic. since it's quite late here in good ole europe, i might listen a bit, but then have to go to bed! i'm curious if you play some of my favorite female post punk bands - and hey, here they are, liliput!!! great.
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:09pm Gary:

Hola, LofLL ... we aim to please!
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:11pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

you sure do! great to have contact that easily - i think it's a first time for me on a radio show of a fellow blogger... have a good show!!! :)
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:11pm Rich in Washington:

the former model is somewhat spendier than its cheaper counterpart but both sound nearly identical to my ears. I prowl B&H's used section regularly for discounted gear.
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:12pm Gary:

Thanks, Lucky!
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:14pm davex:

Hi Gary and everyone! I guess this is where I come in....
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:14pm cklequ:

Yeah... Rich is on point.

I've been using the same pair of Sony MDR-V6 headphones for years. I'm not really picky about stuff like this, but these things sound great and didn't cost a fortune (from B&H).
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:15pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

the slits and the raincoats are probably my favorite punk/post punk bands, with kleenex/liliput coming close, not forgetting lora logic of essential logic. g'nite
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:15pm Gary:

Dave and Cklequ! ... really appreciating the headphone info
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a perennial topic...1st off - ears are not round - so round not comfy unless big enuff to go truly over...I got some Bose that are great - but the cushion part is wearing quickly! - so little black stuff on you as wears off - & leaves hard plastic on yer ear...

Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:16pm Rich in Washington:

I got really used to the MDR series DJing at a station that used them exclusively. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'! Plus they're really comfortable and sound great.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:16pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

i love that lizzy mercier tune - quirky odball stuff!!
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:17pm Rich in Washington:

this is a great set, Gary! I might have to work late so I don't miss any of it while commuting.
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...also - Bose actively kinda EQ - so not for any sort of mixing or unbiased monitoring...
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:20pm Gary:

I'm thinking of tacking on a Raincoats number for Lucky ... what say y'all?
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:20pm Jamestsherry:

Great sounds, Gary.
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:21pm Rich in Washington:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: RIght on! It's important to distinguish between headphones for enjoying listening to music and those for mixing, etc., where you don't want anything boosted.

Raincoats!!!!
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:21pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:25pm listener james from westwood:

I'll cast another vote for MDRs. Haven't bought a new set lately, but these sound as good as I need them too. Usual listening fare is digital streams or downloads, if that makes a difference.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:28pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

just read your comment about the tacking - you're a sweety, gary. now it's 1:27 and i HAVE to go to bed to be able to function tomorrow - have a ball!

Have a great night, Lucky!
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...to be fair to the Bose - they're pretty much over-the-ear, but I started wearing them sort-of 1/2-way in a work situation so I could still hear around me - not what they're made for...I got the Bose for nothing, too - which isn't generally gonna happen...I'm wondering if these trendy expensive Beats are pure hype or what (suspect so)...
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:30pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

just have to finish dl lizzy + xmal ... ;)

  Wed. 7/23/14 7:41pm Jill B.:

Hi Doca!
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:42pm Jamestsherry:

Hey, Lucky, is that cut typical of the Indonesian style?
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I've thot of Robert Johnson hearing trax on this Program too; mysterious expressive often acoustic things - sometimes recorded lofi - from 'Another Place' in space &/or time...
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:43pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

ah no, this is Dudeh Diwangsih, says madrotter - and it's kliningan not jaipongan. my bad. cheers
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:44pm Gary:

Kliningan, yes ... and not typical, her voice, from what I've heard
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:44pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

james - kliningan and jaipongan are modern pop music forms with folk elements. modern means starting from the 1970's. madrotter.blogspot.com has a lot of tape rips to die for...
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:45pm Jamestsherry:

Thanks, Lucky. I'll look into it further.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:46pm Jamestsherry:

Thanks, Revo.

idjah hadidjah is a fantastic jaipongan singer, as is ida widawati...
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:48pm Jamestsherry:

Gary, do you plan Idjah on Bodega?
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:49pm Gary:

I have something of Idjah's, but not for tonight ...
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:49pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

madrotter has a lot...

Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:50pm Gary:

James, after the show, look up Tonggeret to hear Idjah's most famous song ... on YouTube
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:50pm Jamestsherry:

I like Bing Crosby, too, sadly, I guess. Music maybe sometimes could go beyond ideology.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:51pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

gary - you make it impossible to switch off, damn... ;)
,
wow, that thai tune sure rocks. nice global stuff
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:51pm Jamestsherry:

Also for Johnson a bit of Stocklolm syndrome.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:52pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

tonggeret was issued as compilation in the us by nonesuch - it's her 1970's stuff with gugum gumbira, the inventor of jaipongan. madrotter posted that album on his blog, too.
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:53pm Gary:

Got the Thai song from Peter Doolan's Monrakplenthai blog ... he'll be a guest on this show in August!
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:53pm ndbob:

right Lucky - I had that CD

Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:54pm Gary:

I miss your show, Kenzo ... :(
Avatar Wed. 7/23/14 7:54pm Holly in NC:

@Jill B - This is a dog at end of life, what he choses to eat changes on a dime, and I'm not worried about his health 5 years out (more like 5 days) :-(
so:
- ground turkey
- ground lamb
- rice cooked in homemade chix stock & whey, finished with LOTS of italian parsley (confession - parsley on hand only because I thought I was buying organic cilantro at an amazing price for myself, grabbed wrong thing, heh)
- roasted carrots rubbed in coconut oil
- scrambled eggs from hens down the street
- roast chicken from hens NOT down the street!
- roasted sweet potato
- steamed broccoli
- homemade yogurt
- and 2 strips of, er, bacon to crumble and entice if s*it gets real.
-and peanut butter, ditto.
  Wed. 7/23/14 7:55pm Lucky (of L. Locus):

now look out for that burma music - on bodega!!! :)))
Avatar    Wed. 7/23/14 7:55pm cklequ:

Bing Crosby can't just be tossed under the bus. There's a special place in history for old crooners.

I miss your show too, Kenzo.

@Holly: poor doggy, but a lucky doggy for his short time that he will have you to tend to him. We have two doxies: a male short haired that is 12, and a recently adopted female long haired that is 10. @ljfw, hyde, & gary -

Tucker is a 15 year old good, good, GOOD much loved/adored hound dog. I am honored beyond all reason that his human parents trust me enough to care for him while they attend to an unavoidable commitment out of country. In fact, I have dog equivalent of health care power of attorney, which I am desperately trying not to use. But the minute he seems more unhappy than not...his humans absolutely on same page.

And right now he just put his head on my knee, grinned, wagged his tail, and emitted a burst of WORST DOG BREATH EVER ;-)

No candles, but Tuck finds it hard to stand for length of a full meal so I did hand feed him much of his dinner.. picture Tuck as lounging Roman nobility ;-)
