We won't be hearing from Boscoe today, unfortunately. You'll just have to imagine what they sound like.

YES!! Heya, Turnip!
  Tue. 7/15/14 12:15pm Dean:

Heard this on the local campus station this morning, Dungen, a Swedish neo-prog band that would fit GtDR programming just fine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XhLyYhwXK4

I'm tuning in, turning on, and dropping out!

I had this album. What I'm hearing doesn't sound anything like what I remember, except for the tizzy keyboards.

Just have to ask!

Hey, Jeff!! I will, then. (Maybe a swap?)

Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 12:49pm V Priceless:

indeed you are Tony! Hey Uncle M - psyched for WB Loss Leaders show! I'm guessing some early Alice will be involved?
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 12:57pm listener james from westwood:

The Companyia track is helping me download a million PDFs and Word files without pulling my hair or eyes out (the editor appears to have overlooked the use of the company FTP site).
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 1:00pm Uncle Michael:

V, Alice made the cut.
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:00pm Tony Coulter:

Don't pull your eyes out! Eyes are a terrible thing to waste.
  Tue. 7/15/14 1:09pm Dean:

Could also mean "nothing is royal."
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: You're probably right! I really don't know Spanish -- except for random words here and there -- like the word for pigeon peas. (Have to know how to order them, after all.)
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:16pm Tony Coulter:

So, as I just said: I'll be airing old "Tape Hisses" for the next two weeks as I follow the wild surf. Lemme know if you have any shows you'd like to hear again.
  Tue. 7/15/14 1:16pm Dean:

I'm no Latino, but one of my favorite words is Spanish for peanuts: cacahuates!
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

This "Children" is not the U.S. band. It's Bruce Cockburn's '60s psych band (so Canadian).
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 1:25pm cklequ:

Looking through your playlists, the one thing i notice about all the Tape Hiss shows is that, aside from the ones i've managed to catch live, i almost never recognize so much as a band name. I always love those shows, though.
  Tue. 7/15/14 1:29pm Dean:

Was that CD hiss?
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:33pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, cklequ! Yeah, I realize the unfamiliarity factor makes it hard to have preferences. Just figured I'd ask, though!
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:35pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Was the CD hissing at you? Maybe if you offer it a treat it will stop.
  Tue. 7/15/14 1:35pm Len:

This show is supergood man!
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 1:36pm holland oats:

yikes this hayward tune is great
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:36pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Len! (And greetings!)
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

Hayward was in The Accent (U.K. psych band)
  Tue. 7/15/14 1:37pm Dean:

Either the CD hissed or Irma Ametrano belched. Maybe she shouldn't play Mignone on a full stomach. Loved that excerpt, by the way.
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 1:38pm holland oats:

WOAH WOAH WOAH
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 1:39pm Uncle Michael:

If you thought you were going to produce a radio show that would keep me from plotzing, Tony Coulter, you have failed.
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

Hope the plotz cleans up easily!

Been thinking of Rockaway Beach ever since that news about Tommy. Thanks for playing it.
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:10pm Tony Coulter:

@ GeesyCreesy: I'm afraid you've fallen into the GTDR vortex. I think you want to be here: wfmu.org...
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:13pm Tony Coulter:

Heard a big thump on the front porch just now. Went to investigate, and it turns out the mailman has delivered "The Complete Hawaii 5-O." The thing weighs a ton.

Book 'em Dano, murder one.

I always hear Rockaway Beach in my head when the missus and I go to the coast. The left coast's Rockaway is our favorite beach.

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Tonight at 7pm (eastern) Jesse Kaminsky's show officially expands to THREE HOURS. Tune in to Kaminsky Kamoutsky and congratulate Jesse! (And answer "no" when he asks, "Does this radio show make me look fat."

Coming up at 6pm (eastern) this evening, Give the Drummer Some will be celebrating —and airing in its entirety — one of the greatest speeches in American presidential history: Jimmy Carter's "crisis of confidence" speech (sometimes referred to as "the malaise" speech). There will be music, too.
  Tue. 7/15/14 2:37pm MrFab:

Heh, "The Violent Femmes" is one of those albums, like "Thriller," that I've never owned, yet I have memorized. Everyone had it, college radio played it non-stop...
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Mr. Fab!
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:41pm Tony Coulter:

I imagine that Violent Femmes album was played on FMU a lot back then, too.
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

Funny you should mention that, Mr. Fab. I recently found a copy at a garage sale and felt totally obligated to buy it because of that reason.
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 2:42pm V Priceless:

STRANGLERS RARE STUFF!!
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:42pm Tony Coulter:

Congrats to Jesse, the three-hour backdoor man!
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 2:42pm V Priceless:

I never heard this!
  Tue. 7/15/14 2:43pm Dean:

The single, Gone Daddy Gone, was frequently spun on the Al's Bar jukebox, sometimes just before or after a Sinatra tune.
Avatar    Tue. 7/15/14 2:43pm Rich in Washington:

It really cut across a lot of programming barriers here too. It was just underground enough, yet had so much mainstream-ish appeal, it was played on lots of different types or radio programs.
Avatar Tue. 7/15/14 2:43pm northguineahills:

What, I missed the Violent Femmes, dernit! I just found a cassette of theirs in my closet full of detritus of my move years ago that I haven't looked at in a decade, and listened to it last weekend.
