As welcome as the cover was, Billy's prevalent slidey lags/delays behind the Stormy beat gave the ol' musical brain a noogie, because it's been soooo hard-wired to the original treatment.

Eric the Half a Bee:

Duane, thanks for the Billy Eckstine. I am criminally unfamiliar with his work and life. Googled and read NPR and Time tributes to him this week. Bird, Diz, Miles, and Blakey in his orchestra, and the amazing singing career after? Wow!

This Chic/Mathis album was never released -- I had no idea there were remixes of it! This album not being released is a tragedy.
Avatar 1:10pm

this would have been a huge hit. Too bad it didn't come out when it should have.
Avatar 1:10pm

They are the only producers that could make Johnny Mathis sound good uptempo.
Avatar 1:11pm

Whose wardrobe would they agree to adopt as a team for a live gig, everyone Johnny or everyone Chic?

I think that there would be a lot of overlap. hahahha
Avatar 1:12pm
Duane:

still b/p: I think Johnny would've looked suave in A Chic suit
Avatar 1:15pm
Droll:

Cecile, Funny you should say that, because the record label refused to release it because they were sure it would have flopped and worse, alienated Johnny's audience. What a classy act that would have been...
Avatar 1:15pm
Jshatan:

They didn't release that?? I thoroughly enjoyed it and usually can't stand Mathis. No wonder the music biz is failing.
Avatar 1:17pm

the eckstine tribute was beautiful indeed. i think "stormy" might be one of my favorite songs, period. so many great versions.
Avatar 1:19pm
Cecile:

this is alos a great track.

I adore JJohnny. That's too bad Droll. I'm glad there were record companies that supported Liza and Dusty working with with the Pet Shop Boys and Ronnie Spector from working with Joey Ramone. And Tony Bennett having a comeback. This record needs to come out now while Nile and Johnny are still on the planet.
Avatar 1:20pm
Cecile:

Who wouldn't love a classy lost Chic album with Johnny's vocals? I don't want to know them.

My favorite Nile quote about CHIC: We thought we were mixing KISS and Roxy Music into a black band, and that was CHIC.
I have no idea what they were thinking... I can't find the picture online, but there's a pic of Nard and Niles with Gene and Paul backstage at a KISS concert. Everyone looks like they just met their hero.
