I'd play Sleep, sure, just not tonight; I'm a meticulous pre-planner. Plus I already have a few tracks of greater length planned for tonight, you'll see.

@RRn, I'd share one of my IPA's with you. that would help you sleep.

never seen them, Wm., but love their *decomposing animal flesh* sensibilities :)
Avatar 1:13am
Wm.:

I think CD's band philosophy goes much like that of Carcass - humans are brutal and barbaric for killing animals, eating their flesh, it's a protest of sorts. I think they're vegetarians from San Diego, but don't quote me.
Avatar 1:23am
slugluv1313:

one of their CDs caught my eye some years ago at one of those small vinyl/CD shops in SoHO (Thompson Street? Sullivan Street? place may not even be around anymore) -- the cover art work was brutal in its disgust with humanity, and i read the inside liner notes -- I WAS IN LOVE!!!
they used to all be vegetarians, but now only two of them are, Travis being one -- weird
what is that soundtrack you are playing now? sounds like humans being disemboweled, YAY!!!!!!!!
Avatar 1:25am
Wm.:

That was a "trailer," if you can believe it, from Jean Rollin's The Living Dead Girl. I think it's what we hear when she finally succumbs and feeds on her female lover.
Avatar 1:26am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yes; I was thinking it was the sound of people needing to do things they very much do not want to do - which is interesting. I found the book 'The Monster Show' by David J. Skal about the history of the Horror genre to be a favorite. I really prefer SciFi - but I'm drawn in by how Horror reflects the unexpressed subconscious in society...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am
Andrew Waterloo:

I was in a record shop one night and the owner played a Pig Destroyer track from somebody, and the guy's reaction was "that sounded vegan"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
Andrew Waterloo:

I'll look up that Skal book as well.. I enjoyed the hell out of this book: www.shaderupe.com...
Avatar 1:43am
slugluv1313:

bummer, "Pig Destroyer" is what was decided instead of "Cop Killer" or "Cop Destroyer" (yup, being vegan, i just had to look this up) -- ever since i was a kid (and way before i was even vegetarian) i always hated it when "counter culture" types would insult the pigs that way!!!
anyhoo, one of the dudes in Pig Destroyer was also in Anal C*nt -- so they were trying to come up with an equally creative/offensive name
Avatar 1:44am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers. (Or is that Chills??)
- Skal is a cultural historian - not any extensive history of Horror, but in that book the Why of certain Imagery When (WWI & the Phantom & Hunchback for egs.).
Avatar 1:45am
slugluv1313:

WOW i will have to track down "The Living Dead Girl"! sounds way cool!
Avatar 1:46am
Wm.:

@slugluv, I'd heard that lore, too! "Cop Killer" would have been a little more trouble than they probably wanted.
Avatar 1:48am
slugluv1313:

interesting! "pig destroyer" less trouble/offensive than "cop killer"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am
Andrew Waterloo:

You have to remember that Body Count had an album called Cop Killer banned
Avatar 1:54am
Wm.:

I find it significant that the killer in the Wolf Creek series is a wild-pig hunter; makes it extra gross. And in other films, Mafia-type tales, people get fed to pigs to eliminate their corpses. What can I say? My kid loves bacon. ...And yeah, cops, they will always defend their own, a little more diligently than the general public; I suppose it's their "right."
Avatar 1:56am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...strikes me as very 'Skal' Ice T ended up playing a cop on TV...
Avatar 2:33am

I love the trailers -- some are delicate truffles to be savored, others are cheese sliced at varying thickness.

I missed the "Living, Breathing, Piece of Defecating Meat" singalong but I've been lurking most of the show. I had to come out of lurking for these trailers.... I want to see these movies! The way they were meant to be seen: On VHS!

Love those old, colorful VHS clamshell cases and boxes. I have a modest collection; I am sure some people have many, many more.
Avatar 2:43am
Droll:

I saw a box of at least 20 VHS cassettes in a dumpster just last week. They're as valuable to me as a dumpster full of 8-Tracks. Where do you even get a player? I've come to you for help on this very topic for cassette! BTW, I never got a player, but still have the box of cassettes of old band demos (mine and friends) a gazillion bar band soundboard bootlegs (which will probably turn out to be 80% bad Motley Crue and RATT cover bands), Dr. Demento recorded with a shoebox recorded placed in front of a Realistic radio...

The Monkey that uses things. Adaptation - or Disadvantage?
Avatar 2:48am

My Dad happens to hoard VHS players, as he has a huge tape collection. He gets them on craigslist, which of course functions best in its homeground of the Bay Area, seller-to-buyer, no shipping needed. But I'm sure there are people selling players on craigs and eBay, too, all over the nation.
Avatar 2:50am

@RRNov63 ...ask the jokers who made that new, crappy-looking CGI Planet of the Apes movie.
Avatar 2:51am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- waiting for DVDs to be as simple to copy & store as CDs & to decline as rapidly; the Movie Biz will scream & kick as hard as it can...
Avatar 2:54am
Wm.:

They nearly are...only the dual-layer discs, ones with more than 4 GB content...everyone I know, myself included, has some trouble with those. ...
Avatar 2:54am
Droll:

It's odd to think that kind of media collecting/hoarding will never exist again -- we'll just stream everything from The Cloud. If it never made it to digital, it's lost to the sands of time...

RRN, I've been saying "TV's next, then film" ever since Napster showed up. The music industry is now dead, TV is on the ropes, and film is sweating nervously because they merged with TV a few years ago.
