I love that one.

NOBODY expects the WFMU inquisition.
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:08am P-90:

WFMU: "A phenomenon that works in practice but not in theory" is another good one...

Aloha DJ Jesse and all the little Frowoagers!

I like the one about debunking capitalism's conceit that profit is what motivates people.

so far, parquet courts is my #1 album of the year... as well as the #14 album of 1993

I forget the exact wording, but something like "Our programming doesn't fall through the cracks, it is the cracks."

My wife and I -- "Jump" is "our song". We met, we heard, we hooked up, we married.
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:33am jj.:

well put, nate. not quite my #1 (probably zea's "the swimming city" right now) but definitely getting mucho play in my house.
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:33am pacific standard simon:

This is NOT VG+
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:36am jj.:

indeed. i think this copyright control comp was assembled with the only surviving acetates of some of these tracks.
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:37am Carmichael:

Matt from Springfield should be getting some psychic radar Beach Boy messaging about now.
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:40am Carmichael:

And may I say, Gaylord's Pet Soundalikes CD is astonishing. These thoughts are brought to me by your superior turntable-ness, Jessie!
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:41am nate:

the beach boys played here (boston) for our 4th festivities, which got moved to the third due to the possibility of rain, and then they got hit with a huge thunderstorm anyway. which is cool as long as mike love got upset.
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:44am JakeGould:

I recently took a journey down memory lane and listened to all the Van Halen albums from the first S/T to 1984. That is not a great journey. “Diver Down” is pretty bad. “Fair Warning” ages better than expected.
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:47am nate:

even today, how can you hear "unchained" and not want to rip off your shirt like hulk hogan?
  Mon. 7/7/14 12:48am nate:

i don't do it BUT I WANT TO
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:51am jj.:

yes, carmichael! all of gaylord's comps are amazing. if it's still online (on vimeo, maybe?) there's video of one of gaylord's live presentations about knock-off acts. it's brilliant. and even if it's not still online, it exists somewhere & remains brilliant!
Avatar Mon. 7/7/14 12:51am Droll:

Diver Down is uniformly panned by reviewers and audiences alike, nevertheless it is my favorite VH album because it's so unprepared. It's a bunch of instrumentals they had lying around and some covers. The whole record is only 32 minutes long. It's what would normally be outtakes but they were really taking off and "needed a new album right now".
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 12:59am JakeGould:

@nate “Mean Streets” is still really great. Almost an aberration in their career because it really shreds. And VH does not shred.
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 1:12am JakeGould:

This “Holiday Road” is so cool. Thanks!
Avatar Mon. 7/7/14 1:14am Droll:

Yippie Lindsey!! You heard my cries and played the real song!
(Actually, the drone was cool, too)
Avatar    Mon. 7/7/14 1:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

I caught the end of Vegas Vacation today. I forget if it also had "Holiday Road."
