Hi Tony and gang!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:07pm Doug Schulkind:

I once (sort of) performed with Tiny Tim. He used to hire himself out as an emcee. He would travel around to college campuses and get gigs hosting local talent shows. The organizers would give him some cursory notes on the various acts, then he would intro each performance while doing is shtick before, in between, and after each.

The only thing I can really recall from the event: He was a powerfully unbathed-smelling individual.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, V Priceless!
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 12:08pm V Priceless:

@ Doug - "the powerfully unbathed" - new band name of the week!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

... and Doug! Precious (olfactory) memories....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 12:10pm DCE:

best thing on Physical Graffiti
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

@V Priceless
Powerfully Unbathed were excellent! At least their early stuff—before they sold out.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:11pm Tony Coulter:

... before they cleaned up their act?
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 12:11pm V Priceless:

@ DCE - agreed 100% @ Doug - yeah, the pre-soap & water era ruled!
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 12:12pm V Priceless:

ha Tony - good one!

Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:24pm Jeremy N:

hey Tony! Realized your show was on so turned off my recently acquired Yo La Tengo & Jad Fair CD, tuned in to you just in time for more YLT!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Jeremy! I have spies everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 12:26pm listener james from westwood:

Sounds like Tiny Tim should have spent more time tiptoeing through the tulips!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 12:27pm Artie:

I would testify in court that the theme music from Plants vs. Zombies was a straight lift from the opening of this Heratius Corporation piece.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:28pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Artie! I will call my lawyer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 12:29pm Artie:

Speaking of Jad, is anyone here contemplating a trip to this year's Shakemore? Mulling, mulling...
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:39pm Jeremy N:

I heard Powerfully Unbathed eventually shortened their name to P.U.

Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:47pm Tony Coulter:

At one point, I knew Tiny Tim's cousin. She was powerfully bathed.

I'm prancercizing barefoot.

Hi everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Howdy, UM!
@Artie: Seeing Plants v. Zombies reminds me how much time I got back when I didn't install that on a new computer back in November. Hoo boy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

Robert Plant vs. Colin Blunstone?
  Tue. 6/17/14 12:57pm MrFab:

Howdy Tony & all! Today's Fun-To-Know Fact: future Moog-meister Mort Garson is the man behind this Ruby & The Romantics tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 12:58pm Uncle Michael:

I wanna know which keyboard player and which producer ruined the Roches album.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 12:59pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, MrFab! That is a fun fact!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:01pm steve:

wow, good one Mr Fab
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

@ UM: It's some kind of really horrible-sounding digital synth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:03pm Uncle Michael:

It's Larry Fast. I used to have a Larry Fast album.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:04pm Tony Coulter:

Jeffrey Lesser (whoever that is) is the producer to blame....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:05pm Uncle Michael:

Jeffrey Lesser, the producer, has a credit for vocals. Vocals...on a Roches album. I guess their blend was missing something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 1:06pm listener james from westwood:

Helluva mix this first freeform hour! Smashing!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:06pm Tony Coulter:

Thank you, kind sir!
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 1:07pm Rich in Washington:

I was just reading the credits on that Roches album - multiple credits for 'synthesizer' - maybe to spread the blame around
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 1:08pm DCE:

gotta find this Sonorhc reissue.
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

@ DCE: It's really fantastic.
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 1:09pm Rich in Washington:

The 80s was an awful era for keyboards - so many horrid sounding synths, FM synthesis synths, horrible samplers like the Fairlight CMI
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 1:11pm V Priceless:

Make Mine Mellotron! Though much respect for Larry Fast for Synergy, and his work w/Gabriel and Nektar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

The worst synth stuff might have been in the '70s. Bread's "London Bridge," for example.
  Tue. 6/17/14 1:18pm MrFab:

I'll bet it's a Yamaha DX7 on the Roches album: the '80s keyboard from hell, esp. the dreaded 'electric piano' setting.
I'm not ready to blame Larry Fast, he was still doing great stuff on Peter Gabriel's albums...tho I had a Herbie Hancock album (w/Foday Musa Suso) album ruined by the DX7, and you'd think he'd have known better...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

Oh, Tony...this is so good.
  Tue. 6/17/14 1:20pm rogue oats:

woah this EB tune is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:21pm steve:

Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy there, rogue oats!
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 1:26pm V Priceless:

I thought this was Jello for a sec - ha!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Armand Frigico = Armand Miralles of Heratius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

I thought Dave Thomas.
Avatar    Tue. 6/17/14 1:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Just got here. Greetin's, peeple.
...what's all this about the Yamaha DX7? That damned thing was everywhere. Every band on earth in the '80s had one free in their "Yay, New Band!" pack...
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:36pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, DX-Turnip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 1:38pm DCE:

as a proud 80s era bostonian whenever i hear "question of temperature" i can't help but think of the band human sexual response
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 1:58pm listener james from westwood:

Did this Bee Gees song just mention numbers stations?!
Avatar Tue. 6/17/14 1:59pm Tony Coulter:

@ rogue oats: Is it a cover of the Balloon Farm song? Haven't heard that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/17/14 2:00pm Uncle Michael:

I missed Kilburn Towers? grr.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/17/14 2:09pm DCE:

The person who buys it should attempt to recreate classic Lou albums, skipping New Sensations, Lulu.

Someday synthesizers will realize that it's OK to just be themselves, and stop trying in vain to sound like other instruments.

fine show today, Tony! Thank-you!
