Good Wednesday, Amanda and all! Looking forward to the Pride show.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:04pm Uncle Michael:

I'll be listening in mobile-mode for a bit. See ya!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:08pm Jeff Golick:

Ooh, la la, indeed.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:09pm Roberto:

True story -- after hearing clips from and descriptions of The Young Ones on this show last week I decided I must see this programme. My daughter agreed and we're both now completely addicted to the TYO way of life. Sad that Rik had to go in order for us to know the brilliance of TYO.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

Roberto: It's never too late to catch up with a classic!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:11pm Roberto:

I also realized after watching a few episodes that I'm Neil and my kids are Vyvyan and Rick.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:11pm Gaylord Fields:

In honor of today's show, I'm gonna rename myself Gaylord Fields!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:14pm listener james from westwood:

CWA reminds me of a woman I used to know, esp w/r/t the "why are you wearing a skirt?" lesbian dynamic.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:14pm Amanda:

Roberto, that is AMAZING! Really glad I could facilitate your love of TYO. My dad (Papa Naz) and I used to love watching it together too.

Gaylord -- OK, but just don't do that in front of my kids.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:14pm Jeff Golick:

Getting the vapors over here...
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:18pm bpd:

I can't believe the radical Scenario agenda, just ramming these Donovan covers down our throats.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

Stone-cold classic right hurr...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:19pm Gaylord Fields:

Speaking of your kids, Amanda, how are Adam and Steve?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:20pm Amanda:

I think they're just going through a phase.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:21pm Dominick:

Whoooooooo!
  Wed. 6/18/14 12:22pm Dave B. (@BuckyKatt):

I for one fully embrace the felinist manifesto supporting Cats that Love Cats and the People who Love Them.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:22pm Andrew Waterloo:

The meaning of this song has really changed, or has it?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:27pm bpd:

Aw man, I missed The Sweater? Stupid impromptu work chats.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:30pm listener james from westwood:

Hearing "It's Raining Men" makes me think (a) of "Men on Film" from "In Living Color" and (b) Smithers getting hit in the face with the 45 of this song and going, "Ooh!"
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:32pm Andrew Waterloo:

I'm a Boy begs to be song by a transgender male.
  Wed. 6/18/14 12:33pm Dave B. (@BuckyKatt):

The Sweater! Haven't heard that in ages. Always reminds me of "I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:35pm Jeff Golick:

"time for me to put out" - that's what she said
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:36pm Gaylord Fields:

Alternately, several songs from Pete Townshend's "Empty Glass" LP, especially "Rough Boys," would fit today's theme. "Let My Love Open the (Closet) Door," indeed!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:37pm listener james from westwood:

With that four-on-the-floor intro beat, it could only have been The Village People.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:41pm listener james from westwood:

Aw yiss Pet Shop Boys classic!! Used to CRANK this on my Walkman at college. Has one of my very favorite lines in any song.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:42pm Amanda:

@james, that's why I waited a minute to input the song into the accu-playlist... heh...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:42pm Gaylord Fields:

Because of the Village People, I now have the possibly mistaken impression that Stonewall was a food fight: youtu.be...
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

Love Theme from "Cruising" would be nice.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:43pm listener james from westwood:

I would also have accepted, as a follow up to TVP, the PSBs' Soviet-kitschy cover of "Go West."
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:44pm Amanda:

Gawd, you guys, do your own pride shows!!! ;-P
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:44pm Jeff Golick:

Stonewall may not have been a food fight, but aspects of the Pride march nowadays sometimes are!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:49pm Uncle Michael:

You win.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:49pm Amanda:

I mean, it goes RIGHT BY Magnolia Bakery.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

I'd be afraid of getting pelted by cupcakes.

Heyo!

I have a guess on today's Simpsons Time, but I will wait and see what is revealed....
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:53pm listener james from westwood:

Two guesses, now that I think about it.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:54pm Uncle Michael:

Where's Doc? Anyone seen Doc?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:54pm ndbob:

I went on a major cupcake kick when I was in Baltimore last summer
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 12:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: I'm actually not at all trying to program your show and wouldn't dream of doing that; I was just pointing out a recurring theme with Pete Townshend. Heck, I don't put that much effort into my own show!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:55pm ndbob:

what a great song here
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:56pm listener james from westwood:

I have yet to sample Magnolia, but really, this area's now replete with cupcakeries.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:58pm Amanda:

Aw, you know I'm just funning with you Gaylord.

Actually, a couple of these selections were suggestions from my lovely streammates. And Jesse K suggested "Food Fight"!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 12:58pm listener james from westwood:

OMG to have seen this live.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:00pm Gaylord Fields:

Like Ricky Ricardo, I'm just a bit sensitive about 'splaining.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

Amanda, Gaylord is just scheming to be in the show.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:01pm Jeff Golick:

Stone-cold classic right hurr...
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:01pm listener james from westwood:

As musical fuck-yous go, this has to be one of the hottest.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:02pm Amanda:

Agreed! Are we all singing?
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:03pm Gaylord Fields:

Sorry, Uncle Michael, it's hard for me to type with my head stuck in a loving cup.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:03pm Jeff Golick:

I'm splashing along in my claw-foot tub.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:04pm Jeff Golick:

(Because I'm filming a Cialis ad immediately following the show.)
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:04pm Andrew Waterloo:

Damn, all this dynamite and not a single jukebox in the room
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:09pm Skirkie:

I still can't believe there's a market for Cialis. I didn't know so many people suffered from fear of bathtubs.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

Gaylord, tell Ethel to pull *harder*.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:10pm listener james from westwood:

I can't hear that damn Cialis blues riff in any song without thinking of calling the doctor if something lasts longer than 4 hours.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:12pm Uncle Michael:

If your blues riff lasts longer than four hours...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

...and you are *not* a member of Endless Boogie...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

Ok, gotta confess this one is giving my open ears policy the hardest time yet...
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:14pm listener james from westwood:

Does this song pass the Bechdel test? Signs point to yes.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

I love the IG's harmonies. They're magic.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:19pm listener james from westwood:

"Full-laaaaaming!!"
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:21pm listener james from westwood:

Zzzzzap! Zzzzzap!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:23pm listener james from westwood:

"We work hard; we PLAY hard."
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

Wait. Smithers is gay?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:25pm listener james from westwood:

"Is it all right to come out now, Mister Gay Man, Sir"?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:27pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:31pm ndbob:

nice three in a row Amanda!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:32pm Gaylord Fields:

But...but...but Little Richard had a girlfriend in the 1950s! One who would entice strange men to have sex with her, while LR secretly watched.

Okay. Never mind.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Skirkie yah, they're really hinting over the head with hammer with Smithers.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:34pm Gaylord Fields:

And Judy Garland wasn't gay! Just her husbands were.
  Wed. 6/18/14 1:34pm rogue oats:

that LR bio is so great. buddy holly truly lives
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:34pm listener james from westwood:

Judy AND Babs? Camptacular!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:34pm Uncle Michael:

But Babs...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@rogue oats: According to that very authorized LR bio, the man was trisexual (as in the old "try anything sexual" trope). But yes, according to Little Richard, Buddy Holly was quite the Big Bopper.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:38pm listener james from westwood:

Somewhere in the Simpsons, they show Smithers wearing one of Judy Garland's outfits. At least sartorially, he is a friend of Dorothy.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:38pm Andrew Waterloo:

Has everyone noticed that Ontario just elected a gay Premier?
  Wed. 6/18/14 1:39pm rogue oats:

But Andrew, now everyone in Scenario land knows! :-)
  Wed. 6/18/14 1:43pm jay c:

another excellent show for the books, happy wednesday!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:44pm Skirkie:

So a Premier is like, a Governor?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:44pm Amanda:

Thanks so much jay c! Happy Wednesday to you too, and to EVERYONE listening and commenting.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:46pm listener james from westwood:

This John cut is one of those songs that can utterly destroy me on a given day. Holding it together today, though!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:47pm Amanda:

I hear that, Listener James! Phew! Plus I have had it in my head all day.
  Wed. 6/18/14 1:48pm NoBunny UKnow:

Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:50pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@Andrew, So... We ,down here, now know that provinces have premiers and they can be gay! Hopefully the Tea-baggers won't call for another attempted invasion!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:50pm listener james from westwood:

"Forever Young" by Alphaville was that sort of song for me for a long time. Then not. Odd.

Wendy Carlos will be none too pleased that you used that other name. And she's got the lawyers to prove it.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

What name was on the contract when it was released?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:55pm Amanda:

But that LP is by Walter! It says so. Should I change it?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

No!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:56pm Uncle Michael:

I don't want this to be over.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:57pm Gaylord Fields:

She actually had all her pre-SRS albums reissued with her preferred name, so I would likely change it.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:57pm Amanda:

OK, I mean I am happy to change it, just don't want it to be inaccurate from a discographical POV.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 1:58pm Jeff Golick:

You mean there are other POVs?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 1:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!

Amazing show!

To a gay-ly wunnerful show, AN!

Great show, Amanda.

One last Simpsons quote:
Homer: "This is Ned Flanders—myyy friend!"
Lenny: "What'd he say?"
Carl: "I dunno, something about being gay."
Fabbo programme, Amanda! You do a mean theme show.

Correction: Just realized that the waterfall-house gag I mention here is actually from ep 194, "Dumbbell Indemnity." There are many flooded-house jokes throughout the series but still, Nazario Scenario regrets the error.
