Good evening! Hi Gary, Jill, Doca, ljfw, ndbob, Hyde & Kelley!
Will be listening, but not typing for now. Outside dealing with moles & voles (1 of each, both dead), 2 dogs & a big black snake of some nature (all alive) :-)

Howdy Fleep and Aaron! Aaron, I'm not sure what I have that was from Holywarbles, though I know I took a lot. Doug did a special Holy Warbles show not long after the blog was taken down ... will have to locate the URL
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:10pm Jill B.:

Holly, try putting a rolled up stick of Juicy Fruit gum down into one of their fresh holes, cover it and wait.....they can ingest it but can't digest it....no poisons.

@Doca ? Won't be able to respond immediately, so please don't think I'm ignoring you!

@Jill - gum for moles or voles or snakes? Snake doesn't appear to have a hole, is living somewhere under this house, he just slithered his large self into a crazy small crack. I love the specificity of Juicy Fruit. Indeed, I used to love Juicy Fruit myself.
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:15pm Jerel:

Wah wah wah.

Doug. thank you for helping Gary out last week. We are all in your debt!

@Kelley I lived in Jamestown - where do you live?
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:16pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm on my phone and can't easily retrieve the URL for the HW special I did. The playlist for the show had become, for a while, a kind of memorial.
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:16pm Jerel:

So digging this.

I'll try to find it, Doug. Jerel! How's it going?
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:17pm doca:

@Holly: ok! My question is, as you seem to be very knowing about home stuff, do you know how can I insulate my feet properly so that they're warm through cold and humid weather? In Porto Alegre the cold sometimes aches...
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:17pm Kelley J.:

@ndbob I live in Dickinson.

One of the tags on Ponytones is 'moustaches' (12 posts). Top tag is 'seventies' with 181 posts. Pity the visuals are gone but at least there are trails to follow.
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:21pm Doug Schulkind:

Croatia now up 3-0. And with Cameroon down a man. Me = sad.
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:22pm Jill B.:

Gary, how hot is it????
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:22pm Kelley J.:

@ndbob yep I've been to Jamestown and through it many times. Have a few friends in fargo. Oil boom has changed Dickinson drastically!
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:22pm Jerel:

Industrial sized fan is out. AC would be out if I wasn't too lazy to bring it up from the basement.
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:22pm Aaron:

Hot in Oklahoma, too. I think the air is on the fritz in my house.

Hi Gary and everyone, just checking in for your question. Yes, Szalonszenkar is Hungarian! And sorry about Cameroon, Doug, they kind of self-destructed.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 7:27pm ndbob:

@kelley That's for sure.. before I moved to ND in 2008 I took a long road trip that included most of the state, except for the Northeast and NW corners . so you have seen White Cloud and the giant buffalo statue then:)
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:27pm Doug Schulkind:

@davex
Indeed. Not unlike Portugal against your boys.

  Wed. 6/18/14 7:39pm doca:

@davex: where are you?
@Holly: thanks! some people say to put some paper on the shoes, but as you're all colder-climate living than me, I thought I'd ask you
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 7:42pm davex:

@Doug: I can't say I feel an attachment there, although I'm vaguely neutral about the matter. I always enjoy a good underdog anyway.

@doca: Leipzig - it is 1:40 a.m. here, but has been rather cool the past week all day (warmer today).
  Wed. 6/18/14 7:43pm Aaron:

90 in Oklahoma, but it's Summer in the South, so you learn to get used to it. And after winter that seemed to last into spring, the weeks of triple-digit weather are actually welcome in my book.

Wow, it sounds like a love ballad by Merzbow.
  Wed. 6/18/14 8:07pm doca:

@davex: everybody was afraid the World Cup would go wrong, that there would be lots of chaos in the airports and on the streets because of manifestations, but everything's been so great everybody's already been converted to the Cup and is just enjoying everything, drinking lots of beer and having fun on the streets. It's being great.

It was kind of a bit of queen and super tramp put together- Swedish style!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 8:57pm Holly in NC:

Gary, thank you. Will see/hear you next week!
  Wed. 6/18/14 8:58pm doca:

@Kelley: thanks for the answer, but sorry to mistake your gender!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 8:59pm Gary:

See you, Holly!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 8:59pm Gary:

Oh, and have a great night, James!
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:04pm Kelley J.:

I smell curry!
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:04pm doca:

Gary, I'll hear you more next week. Thanks for the show! (again!)
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:05pm Gary:

Thanks for stopping by, Doca -- happy trails!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:14pm hyde:

there's a really great quality to the vocals on a lot of this old Thai stuff that I think you can only get from using bad mikes in humid conditions
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:15pm Gary:

I love Ponytone's Thai Collection, Hyde
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:16pm Aaron:

Though oddly, these Thai tracks are a little more hi-fi than what I'm used to.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:16pm hyde:

the ones you played so far were fantastic.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:18pm hyde:

and the green tambourine cover is, like, wow.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:19pm hyde:

vocoder!
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:19pm Aaron:

"Vocoder Beat Poetry" would be a good thing to call a comp featuring that track.
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:20pm hyde:

Time of the Season is a Zombies tune, dude.
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:20pm Aaron:

Where do you get a hold of Thai comics?
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:21pm hyde:

@Aaron I'd buy that comp!
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:22pm Aaron:

Damn right you would.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:24pm Gary:

Zombies! Yes, thanks, Hyde. Aaron, I bought about 300 Thai comics from this little store in Manhatan's Chinatown, before they went out of business
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:29pm Aaron:

Cool. If you've got a scanner, it may be cool to drop some of those on the blog every now and then.
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:31pm Jerel:

I like where this conversation is headed.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:32pm Gary:

I posted a few covers to an old blog of mine, Aaron, as well as some of the comics I've done using Thai comics as reference, here:garysullivan.blogspot.com...
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:32pm hyde:

there's apparently a couple thai horror comic comps that someone from Quimby's put out, too comics-to-read.tumblr.com... dunno where you can find 'em, but they look promising.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:32pm Gary:

But, that said, I should post full stories from the Thai comics and write something extensive about them ...
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:33pm Aaron:

If you did that, we'd love you forever.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:33pm Gary:

Hyde! Thanks so much for that! I didn't know anyone had translated any of them ...
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:34pm Kelley J.:

We are still listening but making dinner! Great tracks!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:35pm Gary:

What are you guys having, Kelley?
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:36pm Kelley J.:

Salmon cauliflower and rice
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:36pm Gary:

Mmm
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:40pm Kelley J.:

And pineapple ....very white...no color. :(
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:42pm Aaron:

Am I the only one getting a vague Laurie Anderson vibe from this?
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:43pm Gary:

Cauliflower, rice, white pineapple ... there was a surrealist poet, I can't remember which one, whose bio in some anthology read: "I like to eat white food" ... something like that ... and, yes, Aaron, seconding Laurie Anderson (speaking of the Kitchen)
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:47pm northguineahills:

(the kitchen, lol Gary....)
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:48pm Gary:

I once sat next to Laurie Anderson while Philip Glass talked at The Kitchen ...
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:49pm Gary:

NOT in the 80s, I should say
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 9:50pm hyde:

seems the Ann Steel thing is a collaboration with Roberto Cacciapaglia: "So who are Roberto Cacciapaglia and Ann Steel? The former is an Italian musician who specialized in electronic composition after starting his career in the early 1970s on the edges of the krautrock scene. The latter is a Michigan-bred singer who spun into Cacciapaglia's orbit during a trip to Italy in the 1970s to do some modeling." pitchfork.com...
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:50pm Jerel:

sad to go, this is a great track!
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:51pm Aaron:

Thanks for the info, Hyde.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:51pm Gary:

Great to see you here, Jerel -- PLEASE let me know when you're in NYC & we can get a beer!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:52pm northguineahills:

When I was at my old friend's bar on St Marks (Open Air), Laurie Anderson sat next to me and ordered a glass of shiraz. She was a very nice person to chat w/. This was in 2005.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:53pm Gary:

That was about when I saw her at the Kitchen, NGH .... there was this retrospective series with her, Glass and Meredith Monk
  Wed. 6/18/14 9:53pm Kelley J.:

This was great Gary, we have sign off...chow time! Good night everyone!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:54pm Gary:

Have a great dinner -- night, Family!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:54pm northguineahills:

I sometimes second guess my decision to come to NYC due to my profession not having many options here and the cost of living, but moments like the above make me realize it was worth.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:55pm Gary:

This one goes out to infohound of the evening, Hyde!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:56pm northguineahills:

I got to play twice at the Kitchen. However, my favorite moment was getting to meet Luc Ferrari and talk w/ him when he played w/ Dj Olive in 2003 (before Ferrari died).
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:56pm Gary:

That beer offer goes for all of you, by the way ... and, OMG, seriously, NGH? That's awesome
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:58pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I used to dj at Dj Olive's parties, and he introduced me to a lot people I idolized. I was lucky.
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 9:59pm northguineahills:

Thanks Gary. argghhh, it's 10! Now I have to program my own listening selections. Always a pleasure!
Avatar    Wed. 6/18/14 10:00pm hyde:

thanks for the trip down Ponytone lane!
  Wed. 6/18/14 10:00pm Aaron:

Bye, everyone. Gonna open a window before I incinerate. Thanks for the show, Gary!
Avatar Wed. 6/18/14 10:02pm Gary:

See you guys, and thanks for the company!
