Options June 10, 2014: Bad Dad
Father's Day is this Sunday, June 15 and I'll be talking about my Dad (pictured in the background as a teenager) tonight on Aerial View. Or the man I THINK is my Dad. According to him, he's not. Which, to me, makes him a Bad Dad. Listen to the show tonight and I'll explain. I'll be joined (on tape) by my sister, Diana, as we discuss our father, the awful "secret" he shared with me back in 1987, the time he tied his namesake, my brother Mario (RIP) to a chair and beat him and the DNA swabs we're about to do that will, hopefully, put this whole "Who's your Daddy?" thing to rest once and for all. And I'll be taking calls about YOUR Dad, too!

I was just telling my wife last weekend that her poppa was a rolling stone...the man is still on the move at 70

this is one of my favorite songs

my father grew up in Valley Stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:20pm dale:

dads are always the thorny parent. back then dad was usually the breadwinner and was working his butt off and was the one to fear ('wait til your father gets home!). it was hard to bond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:20pm Cecile:

oh, dear. I'm sorry,Chris.
too bad they didn't have easy DNA tests.
  Tue. 6/10/14 6:22pm son:

fuck you dad
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:23pm dale:

jeebus - your father really shared too much. my mother was an extra-curricular schtupper, too (two that i know of). when one guy died she brought home a couple bags of things to put in the burn barrel. the fire went out and i saw my dad going through the ashes. after he looked and went away i was curious what the fire was about. i saw a couple naked polaroids of my overweight mother. messes you up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:24pm Cecile:

WOW, both of you.

My dad was no prize at all, but we have a very friendly relationship now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:25pm JakeGould:

“dads are always the thorny parent.” Unlike moms… Like Norman bates mom… Or Jason Voorhies mom… Or Tony Soprano’s mom… Yup… You nailed dads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:26pm dale:

jake - those are fictional mothers
  Tue. 6/10/14 6:28pm dad:

I guess that'd be ok...we ain't related!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:31pm dale:

kudos to you and sis for baring your hearts like this. can't be easy.
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:33pm T_Jay Pauli:

i have luck gr8 father even tough some times i pushed him too hard and he had to hit me .. but i instantly knew i deserved it
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:34pm dale:

my mother broke a broomstick over my brother's back. we had a good laugh over that
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:34pm JakeGould:

“jake - those are fictional mothers” And they would not resonate in the real world if there were not real world issues being reflected. My dad was great. My mom was great. I have witnessed a lot of horrid moms and dads in my life… You can’t blame “dad” for everything.
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:35pm T_Jay Pauli:

he deserves some of mine minor attention nowadays thats the thing .. i think we have to transfere quality time to quantity.. not if you live with them tough.. if you do you have to get along
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:35pm dale:

based on my posts i don't think i am.
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:38pm T_Jay Pauli:

and grow together as individuals .. depending if they dont really give a fuck if that would happen with my mom, i know i wouldn't be so happy , so i'm glad she pulls for me and on me ... convenience is bad for health
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:38pm dale:

'why would you let him rent that space n your head?' - excellent.
  Tue. 6/10/14 6:42pm Joey X:

Chris, you're such a wonderful person, in spite of your father. I applaud you, and your sister Diana, for creating one of the most compelling hours of radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/10/14 6:45pm Mike East:

wait a minute, hold the phones...."Papa Was a Rolling Stone" is the Temptations? - you just blew my freaking mind.
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:49pm T_Jay Pauli:

my father was the youngest of 12 true catholic patriarchal family that had to emigrate to Africa vecause his father lost everything he had of ivalue gambling
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:51pm T_Jay Pauli:

very strickt that one .. José Maria da Silva .. very old fashioned, and a man of troubled spirit - same with my still live grandfather
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:52pm T_Jay Pauli:

i said was because only 8 reached adulthood
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:54pm T_Jay Pauli:

some of them died really ridiculously from low care, 1 kid at the fireplace, other at a dwell.. different times low connection to earth mentalities
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 6:56pm T_Jay Pauli:

of course taboo to have that issues heard from the mouth of my late grandmother, god bless her
  Tue. 6/10/14 6:57pm listener monica:

Great show Chris, I enjoyed it.
Wed. 6/11/14 1:56am Anon (easier this way for tonight):

great show, Chris. You are wonderful. Love your show live or on archive, I listen every wk. My father ( a member of the Catholic Church) hit me a lot and my 9 siblings. Horror story most of the time. Wrote a long, brief history but deleted...it was helpful to write but also too much for this comment section. Just know that I sympathize with you. Your sister Diana is wonderful especially helping with the DNA test- what a good practical idea. I always enjoy hearing you speak of your spouse including how your met and the fun things you do. Seems she loves you a lot from your stories. There can be loving family.
I disowned my father long time ago and it was a relief when he died.
