Good morning Kitty & p90!
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:06am P-90:

Greetings, Marmalade K. A pleasant surprise, you don't often appear at this hour.

I am desperately trying to figure out to bring the young into the fray-some have lost their way-your show is the door I will keep trying We cab save them thanks to you
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:12am Julie:

which fray is that? and whose young?
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:13am P-90:

Hi Julie!
Listening to "In the Dark" once a week, I just get more & more impressed by what a great job they did on that track, it's a real classic. You've seen them play (I assume)?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:15am Julie:

Yes I have. They were actually supposed to come on the show one time but it didn't work out. I still hope to though!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:15am Julie:

the girls go nuts for the singer, Chibi
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:15am coalhard:

sorry-let me explain--many young people are turning into killers they just need direction
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:15am P-90:

Hi coalhard. Were you at a bar, or a club?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:16am Julie:

oh dear not sure my show would cheer them up
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:18am marmalade kitty:

no one you can save that can't be saved..all you need is love! thats an old message but still valid and important! :)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:18am fred von helsing:

chibi is a real powerhuse in the "video kid" video
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:19am coalhard:

stop it Julie
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:20am marmalade kitty:

..or invalid and impotent! kidding
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:22am P-90:

I'd love too see them. I think you mentioned on air once that they might be coming. Yeah, Chibi has a cool look, she's def got a strong singing voice. They all seem to have their style together, I know they all (or mostly) have backgrounds in the visual arts.
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:24am coalhard:

I am not giving up--we have to figure a way to bring young people to WFMU
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:26am coalhard:

never mind it is 3:25 am
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:26am P-90:

Velcome to the castle, Mr. von helsing. By the vay, may I inquire politely: vat is your blood type?
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:26am marmalade kitty:

Good morning Julie, Fred and everyone TZAG!

The Stones go psychedelic! It's the wave of the future!
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:29am P-90:

TZAG, Herr Guido.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:31am fred von helsing:

Helping WFMU rope in the youngins eh? I was in a pub with a pal comparing the WFMU website to (as an example) Radio Helsinki. WFMU's looks totally retro, which is fine for the old-timers I'm sure. But the left-side navigation is a bit of a mess (IMHO) and the color schemes tend to be eyesores. OTOH Radio Helsinki is trying so hard to be trendy, it is a design disaster, too much crap, but it probably seems "homier" and more natural to ADHD youngins. RH has a chatboard to talk to the DJ but listeners aren't using it as a chatspace and might get banned for that (?) and the playlists come online only AFTER the shows, so WFMU has'em beat in basic tech thanks to the KenzoTronic 3000.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:31am fred von helsing:

@P90 my blood type is delicious
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:33am Julie:

oooh delicious blood?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:34am fred von helsing:

Finns are into blood sausage but I haven't heard of any artsy-fartsy type making it from HUMAN bloooood
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:34am marmalade kitty:

Julie and I are young'uns! :)
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:34am coalhard:

stop it julie
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:36am Julie:

what am I stopping this time?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:40am Guido from Cologne:

@fredVH
Trying to stay up to date with websites during the recent 8 years or so could be an incredible waste of money! And most of the techniques in feshion around some 2007 to 2009 ... since the dawn of mobile browsers you can completely thow to them to trashcan.

Quite a few Flash-, JQuery- heavy "barrier-free" Sites need/had an complete relaunch from the very scratch now.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:41am fred:

Hello everyone
@FVH: Michel Journiac, "messe pour un corps"
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:42am fred von helsing:

@fred yecch?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:42am Guido from Cologne:

... oh!! one of my faved harrisons ...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:43am fred von helsing:

@guido agreed, one of the few gems from him I think
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:44am P-90:

@ fred: Is Radio Helsinki's site professional but cluttered-looking, like BBC 3's fer instance? And yeah, playlists updated in (more or less) real time is another example of American leadership, the rest of the world will catch up in due time. Finland's media sounds a bit archaic, like an Iron Curtain county's: banned for using the chatboard to chat, whazzup with that? This is government-run radio, right? Do they also have "privately owned" stations?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:45am Guido from Cologne:

there quite a few gems from him actually
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:45am fred:

@FVH: Journiac did a performance in the 60's involving blood sausages made from his own blood. Actionist body art type, definitely artsy and maybe fartsy enough
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:46am P-90:

@ fred: lemme guess, the critics who came to review the performance were the ones who were served the sausages?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:46am fred von helsing:

whoa P90 let's unpack your post, it's a car crash of assumptions and stereotypes!
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:47am marmalade kitty:

I was playing Harrisons "love you to" on bouzoki
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:48am Julie:

you have a bouzoki?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:48am Julie:

Oh both Freds are here!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:48am Guido from Cologne:

blood sausage is a very sensible theme.
takes 100% apetite for it, 100% quality, and 100% freshness.
Otherwise a spoil of taste for the next ten years.
Well, I'm meat reduced anyway and have digesting problems with all kinds of sausage.
so whatdoidsayhere ...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:49am fred:

@P-90: I don't know, but that seems likely. I think it was a parody of a mass, I've only seen a few pictures, and that was years ago
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:50am fred von helsing:

yes it's multifred thursday !
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:51am Guido from Cologne:

i must make a playlist of may fave Harrisons.

Did Julie play "what is life" last week?
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:53am P-90:

George's early Beatles stuff was mostly gems, John and Paul wouldn't have allowed anything but his very best stuff on the records.
@ fred von: that was a somewhat frivolous and facetious post, but by all means unpack! ...Sorry I said that BBC 3's site was "cluttered-looking", I apologize if that was a stereotype...
  Thu. 6/5/14 3:54am marmalade kitty:

I bought the bouzouki when i was in Athens :)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:56am fred von helsing:

@P90 Oh BBC is cluttered. Anyways Finland is like Canada, there tend to be both public and private entities. Radio and TV are both like that here. Radio Helsinki was a small private operation that almost went under but got rescued late last year. The DJs have LOTS of freedom but also RH has advertising. People are encouraging me to apply for a show and I've spoken to a guy and I might go visit them and check out (for example) their supply of n00 toonz.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 3:58am fred von helsing:

RH's chatboard is too squeezed for a free-for-all like WFMU but I think I'd encourage ppl to try it anyways. I'd have to ask about station policy. Does anyone know any sites that host playlist+chatboards ? Or maybe I could talk Kenzo out of an evaluation copy :-D I've submitted coder-type feedback to him, he knows I'm a dork
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:00am P-90:

Wait, WHAT??? Suzi Quatro is HOW old?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:02am fred von helsing:

SQ is 57 !
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:02am P-90:

[fainting]
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:02am Julie:

crazy right? 64!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:03am Guido from Cologne:

I think Kenzo offeres licences for his Radio-CMS/Community software.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:04am fred von helsing:

Oh 64 sorry. Confused with the other birthday grrrl Siouxsie, who's my contemporary ....
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:05am fred von helsing:

@guido Cool. RH is commercial but shoestring so a month or two of free eval might be needed to get ppl hooked on it.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:08am Guido from Cologne:

I think Kenzo was clever enough to keep the so called "front-end" old-fashioned for the reasons mentioned above. The page is anyway usable on mobile.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:09am fred von helsing:

Back in the day I never really listened to SQ. My loss d'oh.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:09am fred von helsing:

@guido is the basic engine the usual LAMP ?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:14am Guido from Cologne:

Roughly said : yes., looks like.
But i guess, there are some more admin-skills involved then an average automated LAMP-installation.
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:19am P-90:

Whew. Luckily my pet bat Ronnie S. is trained to fly the smelling salts right over if anyone keels over.
And Siouxsie Sioux? I saw her and Budgie and the gang play at The Troubador on the Sunset Strip - she seemed so young, I tell you...
Mid-80's, not that long ago, right?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:22am Guido from Cologne:

Contemporary psych revivals are way better and way more stylish than those earlier waves in the 80ies. (star click on The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:23am Julie:

awww pet bat
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:23am fred von helsing:

Fortunate to have seen Siouxsie twice <3
Hey any other London Grammar fans here? Damn but her voice melts me into a warm puddle of tingle.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:24am Guido from Cologne:

Guess the Troubadour needed Siouxie!
Wasn't that a stuffy place living up it's old legend at the time?
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:26am Meghan:

Guten Morgan!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:26am fred von helsing:

hi there sem
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:30am Meghan:

Meh. A bit. Went to work yesterday and I think I may have pushed myself too much. Going to the doctor after my show today
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:31am Guido from Cologne:

Well anyway, the bass guy knows what he wants!
Hya Sem!
Good to hear and god idea meghan!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:32am Julie:

tell the doc to give you a bunch of shots
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:33am P-90:

Good morning, Meghan!
@ Guido: The Troubador was still very cool, then a few years later became THE home of Heavy Metal, Hair Metal, and Pop Metal in Hollywood, that place was like a cat, it had nine lives
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:37am Guido from Cologne:

@P-90
Thank you for your info.
Obviously judges depend on the very personal perspective.
Now i understand why people wrote, the place went down.
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:39am P-90:

Also @ Guido: G.o.a S.TT paid a visit to WFMU DJ Gaylord a couple of years ago, it was groovy, man. I was going to post a link to the archive but a big chunk of 2010 is missing...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:42am Guido from Cologne:

... too bad ... well, let's not lament about the lost past ...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:49am Sem Chumbo:

Lush.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:50am fred von helsing:

@sem Seconded! :-D
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:50am P-90:

The Troubadour didn't "go down" until the 1990's. It was hot in the 60's (Lenny Bruce got arrested for using the "obscene" word "schmuck" there), hot in the 70's (John Lennon and Harry Nilsson got so fucked up they got thrown out of there), and in the eighties, just as it seemed to have run it's course, it became the showplace for Metal Bands, there were dozens and dozens of them with record deals after Quiet Riot sold a bazilion albums and G&R appeared. Saw Van Halen there when they were a local LA band, in the middle of a bill with 3 or four other local bands...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:51am fred von helsing:

Hey Meghan how about a show about mining disasters? Julie has one, here's another www.youtube.com...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:54am Sem Chumbo:

@FVH Love the attitude " "Blow is out your ass, its Veruca Salt." Of course, Nova Scotia could contribute "The Springhill Mine Disaster." Many covers of that.
  Thu. 6/5/14 4:54am Meghan:

Ummm you come up with enough songs for that and I'll do it!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:57am Sem Chumbo:

Anybody up for turning Richard Brautigan "The Pill versus the Springhill Mining Disaster" into an opera? There's a whole show, with two intermissions, even;)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:58am Guido from Cologne:

That obscure psych-ballad band named BeeGees ... hehe.

@P-90
Thanks again for expert info.
Know the story about Lennon and Nilson ... well, Lennon is legendary for being obnoxious ... and in a Ccoke-driven scene what woul one expect ...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:58am fred von helsing:

Maybe if we extend it to industrial disasters ?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 4:59am fred von helsing:

"No good 90s music." Hah I told afterparty guests there was no good 80s music (except Siouxsie) and it launched this great competition, ppl were digging up all kinds of cool stuff :-D
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:00am Guido from Cologne:

Maybe employer-labourer-relations in general as a theme?
That should be a bunch of songs.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:01am Sem Chumbo:

Tunes about Bhopal, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island...that's Dark Night of the Soul territory, eh?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:06am Guido from Cologne:

... intstantly love this Major Tom version ...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:09am Julie:

that's all him doing everything too, I believe
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:11am Guido from Cologne:

Morning Julie! Morning everyone!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:13am Matt from Springfield:

Who's the singer in A House, he sounds familiar.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:13am Sem Chumbo:

Welcome, Matt.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:14am Julie:

Dave Couse, he sounds like a lot of other people, though much more mellow than he usually is there
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:16am Matt from Springfield:

Love you, Syd!
Hi there Sem!

Thanks Julie--yes he does sound like someone, I'm trying to think of whom...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:17am Julie:

I hear a little bit of Robyn in there sometimes
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:18am fred von helsing:

@MvS got some good songs about industrial disasters ? we'z cooking up a theme for meghan
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:23am fred von helsing:

Guten TZAG Matt von Schlitzfiend!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:24am Matt from Springfield:

TZAG, FVH!
Disasters? Coal mining could be "industrial" disasters: "Spring Hill Disaster" Ewan MacColl/Peter Paul Mary, "New York Mining Disaster 1940" Bee Gees...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:29am fred von helsing:

Yup we've got coal covered ! But how about nukes and nasty chemical shit ?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:30am Matt from Springfield:

Check out (check into?) these Hotels! Smooth sounds.

@FVH: That's a bit trickier. Anti-nuke songs that I know tend to be against "dropping the bomb", not power plant disasters.
  Thu. 6/5/14 5:32am P-90:

Ummm... "The Morning After (Theme from the Poseidon Adventure)"?
OK, maybe not...
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:34am Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Hey, that was involved in the "succubus" episode of South Park! Sing it backwards to destroy one! ;)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:35am fred von helsing:

You'd think the DK's would have a Bhopal Bop or something
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:36am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: "'Ey 'o / Let's go / It's gassing out the back now".. :P
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:37am fred von helsing:

Nobody's making catchy anticapitalism tunes about stuff like Bangladeshi textile factory fires
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:38am Matt from Springfield:

Wow, early Devo! This is Kraftwerkesque punk.
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:39am Guido from Cologne:

that's because all the merch teeShirts come from Bangladesh ..
  Thu. 6/5/14 5:41am P-90:

"Like a Hurricane'? "After the Flood"?
"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"?
"Landslide"?
"Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie, about Pompei eruption I believe?
@ fred von: "Bhopal Bop"?!?!
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:41am Matt from Springfield:

"Shirtwaist Fire Reunion" -- they kicked me out of NYC but I've found several great opportunities in Bangladesh.

Good connex, Guido! How very true :)
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:41am fred von helsing:

speaking of anticapitlaism, have the Yes Men been up to anything lately ?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:42am Matt from Springfield:

Good point on "Edmund Fitzgerald"--shipwrecks are "industrial" disasters too, it happened at the mariners' "workplace".
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:43am fred von helsing:

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" YES!
"Cities in Dust" as metaphor for nukewar YES!
Tom Lehrer had a song about lettin' the nukes rip.
Oh, a pungent theme....
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:44am fred von helsing:

Yeah MvS, there's gotta be plenty of shipwreck songs but they should be modern era eh ?
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:45am Guido from Cologne:

"High Water Everywhere" by Charley Patton
Avatar Thu. 6/5/14 5:46am fred von helsing:

When the Levee Breaks !
