Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:37pm Irwin:

It's not the greatest cover of YSBiM, but it might be the most ambitious.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:39pm nickybones:

That end was wonderful.
  Wed. 6/4/14 3:39pm paula pc:

@ Irwin -- that's likely right! and all that end needed was the Four Freshmen
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:45pm Sem Chumbo:

Much appreciated, Irwin. Worn the grooves out on this album. An angel's pipes.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:47pm Finbar:

Yes! Jenifer Warnes doing a great cover of Cohen.
  Wed. 6/4/14 3:47pm Dean:

I tend to confuse Jennifer Warnes with Karla Bonoff. Funny thing about this Cohen album, though, is that when it first came out is heavily recommended in the audiophile journal literature for its recording and engineering quality. Consequently, it's almost impossible for me to listen past the nerdy audiophile silliness.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:50pm Finbar:

The I'm Your Man compilation, as I recall, is a more inclusive group of artists covering Cohen. I will have to admit I like the R.E.M. version better.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:51pm nickybones:

Excellent news about Courtney Barnett! Bummed to be missing both her NYC shows.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:52pm Irwin:

thanks to rrg for this alternate version of Cardiac
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:53pm Mike East:

I just got Courtney Barnett's double LP for my wife. That's some good music there. Looking forward to liveness.
  Wed. 6/4/14 3:53pm Laura L:

Courtney B. sells out shows before you can even realize she's coming--both NY shows are sold out already. Dang.
  Wed. 6/4/14 3:54pm P-90:

Huzzah! The "Unfictional" episodes are the ones I haven't heard, so these will be two brand-new Joe Frank Joints for me.
"Noticeably older and frailer" doesn't sound so good though...
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 3:59pm nickybones:

What I'm saying, @Laura L! I checked last week (I think) and no dice.
  Wed. 6/4/14 4:02pm Laura L:

@nb--I think no dice too--sold out before I even knew she's coming all the way from Australia. Oh well...
  Wed. 6/4/14 4:05pm Banjo Lisa:

Ahhhhh bliss. I used to listen to Joe Frank and Alan Watts back to back on FMU like church...but better. Thx Irwin!! you roll my world. sometimes rock too! ;)

  Wed. 6/4/14 4:36pm P-90:

@ V Priceless: Now I'll have to check out more Zero 7.

@ chris: I'm not surprised Thievery Corp grabbed that Zero 7 too, some tracks are naturals for sampling, no?

@ Banjo Lisa: Yes, Watts + Frank had a synergistic mood-altering effect.
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 4:38pm northguineahills:

oh, wait, I've heard this before!
Wed. 6/4/14 4:39pm the Brooklyn kid:

Watts was a man ahead of his time! He was so right about many things you see today
Wed. 6/4/14 4:40pm the Brooklyn kid:

  Wed. 6/4/14 4:56pm P-90:

@ Brooklyn Kid: I assume you've seen the one or two videos of classic bits of Alan Watts lectures that Trey and Matt had animated at their South Park Studio?
  Wed. 6/4/14 5:02pm Banjo Lisa:

yes mood-altering effect. feeling pleasantly altered right now... ;~)
Avatar Wed. 6/4/14 5:15pm Droll:

. o O ( So nice to get home and turn on your machine to get a full-on assault from Art Blakey beating the snot out of his drums while being drenched with reverb. )
We join this album-side drum solo already in progress.

Hi Droll.
  Wed. 6/4/14 5:20pm P-90:

@ . o O: is this this like a sonar or radar "ping"?

I recognize social media sites like this chat board are designed to be declarative, but that's really limiting how we interact with each other and the technology. Indeed, many listeners often struggle to force-fit narrative and conversational structure into the comments board, witness the widespread use of "@name, blah blah blah...."

hey there, P-90, thanks for the great start to my day! you can get the complete ballet on itunes. you can hear most of my music on my website, randallwoolf.com.
Avatar Sat. 6/7/14 12:42am Droll:

Howdy Irwin! Time for Piff and Paff!

I liked the Minisnap shoegazey pile-o-guitars and vocal harmonies.

Gerry Gibbs was great from the beatbox intro all the way to the jazz Theremin. Stunning arrangements by The Awakening Orchestra -- There's no substitute for a Big Band. Shoegazing is no substitute. During the backannounce you said TAO was "interesting but not great". I thought it was both great and interesting. That was a great second set.

Thank you for reiterating that Joe Frank does not lie -- all those stories and people are real. He does sound a lot older!

Oh boy! Drum Special! EFD moderated, good call, you guys get totally out of hand; and bringing in a ringer so listeners get the opinion of a proper Professional musician is also wise. I've got July 23rd on my calendar!

And here's Art's enormous drum solo, which means we're back to where we joined the first time. Thanks for the wonderful radio/stream/show.
