Hi Holly :)
And look BGZ and Canadian Cam and all kinds of all-stars are in the house :)
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 9:39pm Holly in NC:

@Andrew - Neat article about Zolar X in Flying Saucer Rock & Roll (a book of stories that originally ran in Rocktober, edited by Jake Austin).

Hi Danne!
@efd, so glad you are staying in your/this timeslot.
Also glad Thomas S. is moving to a human hour.
Not happy about lack of Terre T!
  Wed. 5/28/14 9:43pm Mildred:

I love this tune. Thanks EFD!

16th person to clicky star Laura C :-)
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 9:55pm JakeGould:

If it ended, where are we?
Wed. 5/28/14 10:04pm Michael from the Left Coast:

I've joined late and I'm in the middle of seventeen things but I see the Motors on the playlist and I have a question for the group--why weren't the Motors bigger? Even Bram Tchaikovsky and Tom Robinson Band had bigger "hits" than the Motors did but they Motors did fine work.
  Wed. 5/28/14 10:06pm 12539:

(I think you should say, "Rwah," and throw in an extra "poisson rouge" for fun.)
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:14pm efd:

ha! I'll consider it.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:15pm efd:

Michael ftLC I wish I had an answer for that... I agree, they had several radio-worthy tunes, including the one I played. I don't know why none of them caught on even within the limited new wave/punk realm that gave attention to the other artists you mention.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:18pm Uncle Michael:

What happened to Strawberry Letter #23?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:18pm efd:

I had to start over and play it at the right speed.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:19pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:19pm Stevel:

Details, details.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:19pm Uncle Michael:

I thought it was Shuggie at first!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:19pm Marcel M:

Fuck yeah Strawberry Letter 23
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:19pm Marcel M:

When it got cut off I almost died
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:20pm jmd:

nice save!

Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:21pm Uncle Michael:

It's all good!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:22pm Marcel M:

I have this on the Jackie Brown soundtrack LP
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:22pm Joe D.:

Strawberry Letter 23 always always always perfect on 65 degree nights in late May
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:23pm Joe D.:

I wonder how Anton would feel about the segue tho
Wed. 5/28/14 10:23pm Lonely Planet Boy:

What Uncle Michael said.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:31pm Stevel:

There's some righteously mellow shit going down right here.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:31pm Uncle Michael:

Iceland? ICELAND?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:32pm Holly in NC:

On, this Poker song is totally kickass!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:34pm Danne D:

Poker :) A band I can get behind
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:38pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:39pm map:

Did you inherit Nat Roe's airhorn?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:41pm Joe B:

sorry if this was mentioned but the Strawberry letter 23 45 picture sleeve version came with a strawberry scent.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:43pm Cubicle Carl:

Ace Frehley spends much time on Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise in his autobiography.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:44pm pacific standard simon:

Does the station manager allow scented records in the record library?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:44pm Joe B:

Dust was a nice RSD reissue recently, last year maybe.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:45pm Joe B:

unfortunately some have a scent that we are not sure how it got there
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:45pm Droll:

. o O ( Agreed, fine drumming: Great feel, chops on demand. )
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:45pm efd:

yeah, I didn't get the vinyl reissue but did pick up the CD. I think it was my #1 or #2 reissue of 2013.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:46pm Joe B:

I also picked up the CD as well. Neither will be for sale at table B12 Sunday at the record fair!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:47pm pacific standard simon:

I had a cat once who added some scent to some of my books.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:48pm Holly in NC:

Oh, the memories...
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:48pm cameron_michael:

Cold Gin makes me think of the Sound Collage.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:50pm pacific standard simon:

Not having punk rock around in '74 tended to make bands like Kiss and Ted Nugent sound better than they might have, otherwise.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:51pm Joe B:

impressive list of credits for this cat. thanks for the tribute efd
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:51pm Cubicle Carl:

I performed Cold Gin at karaoke once. I was on a cruise with my parents, and even though there were only about 5 people in the bar, it was the highlight of the trip.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:52pm Holly in NC:

@efd, impossible to overplay this!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:53pm Joe B:

wow, didn't realize Michael Brown of the Left Banke was involved in this group. or probably knew and forgot at some point.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:54pm pacific standard simon:

Rod Stewart Lite!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:54pm Joe B:

but he's not on brother louie apparently
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:55pm Holly in NC:

ok, @efd, you are somehow picking my brain for my favorite songs.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:55pm Uncle Michael:

You know who you should have on your special? The Pips.

No...just the Pips.
Wed. 5/28/14 10:56pm Lonely Planet Boy:

We need more of these early 70's "strings".
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 10:58pm efd:

Joe B, weirdly enough "Brother Louie" was the only Kerner & Wise production on the album.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:00pm pacific standard simon:

How 'bout them Cubbies, UM?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:00pm Uncle Michael:

This is about my favorite Dust track.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:00pm Uncle Michael:

Hey, we didn't get no-hit. And we chased Timmy.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:01pm Joe B:

wiki says it was initially left off the LP, then once it broke the LP was re-pressed with Brother Louie. Kama Sutra even stuck some original copies of the record inside sleeves that listed Brother Louie!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:01pm Joe B:

Speaking of, there will be not one but TWO copies of Brother Louie for sale at table B12 Sunday at the record fair!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:03pm Uncle Michael:

I still think I prefer Hot Chocolate's original Brother Louie.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:17pm Holly in NC:

@UM, That's a tough call (for me)! On the other hand, I have strong preference for Shuggie's original Strawberry Letter.

And I love this eastlink lp, it makes me want to put on heavy boots and kick things. Inanimate things, of course!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:18pm Uncle Michael:

I'm with you on Shuggie.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:18pm Andrew Waterloo:

I like the Eastlink single, haven't heard the album.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:21pm efd:

I need to remember this song for next year's Dog Show show!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:21pm Holly in NC:

Peter & the Test Tube babies reminding me of Love & Rockets (I know, I know...)
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:23pm Holly in NC:

Oh my gosh, opening to Sleaford Mods so reminiscent of Bongo Joe's "Innocent Little Doggie". Both songs will now be stuck in my head all night.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:28pm Droll:

CanCon: Check!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:28pm Danne D:

LOL Knew this was Aldo Nova at the very start of this song. Why couldn't Ken have picked this one for the SSD contest for me today :)
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:28pm Uncle Michael:

oh my
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:28pm Alex of Chicago:

Pretty amazing...
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:29pm Holly in NC:

Oh. My. God.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:29pm Andrew Waterloo:

Another CanCon song I didn't know the artist for.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:30pm Santos L Halper:

Is this your answer to BT playing Loverboy yesterday?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:31pm efd:

ha! Maybe subconsciously it is, Santos.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:32pm Uncle Michael:

Aldo Nova: Dead or Canadian?
  Wed. 5/28/14 11:33pm Ignore Function:

Aldo Nova should play the WFMU record fair.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:34pm Danne D:

I gotta run now :) will be listening in the car :)

Thanks for a great show as always, EFD. See you at the record fair!

Take care everyone!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:35pm pacific standard simon:

Evan, that's like Valencia St. in San Francisco, where Subterranean Records was at that time.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:36pm Uncle Michael:

I always went with Africa by Toto.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:36pm Uncle Michael:

Or not.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:37pm pacific standard simon:

Also home of The Deaf Club, and The Ramones' favorite burrito joint. "Yuppie" paradise, now.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:38pm Droll:

Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:44pm Uncle Michael:

BLACKHAWKS keep their season alive in double overtime!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:44pm pacific standard simon:

I wonder if Miriam has a leopard-print caveman suit.
Wed. 5/28/14 11:45pm Michael from the Left Coast:

and why didn't Milk 'n' Cookies become the first band to break out of CBGB--they were very mainstream commercial, weren't they?
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:48pm Droll:

MftLC, My teeth hurt listening to Milk 'n' Cookies. I don't get it either.
Wed. 5/28/14 11:49pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Ian McLagan? No playlist update yet
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:50pm pacific standard simon:

People didn't go to CBGB if they were looking for mainstream commercial.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:50pm efd:

you got it Michael!
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:51pm Holly in NC:

@Droll - Your Aldo Nova youtube link suggested that I next watch Red Riders (excellent! Lunatic Fringe!) amd Frida (not so much). But I think perhaps it's really time for Sniff n the Tears' 'Driver's Seat'.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:51pm Uncle Michael:

And yet...those bands are the soundtrack of Madison Avenue now.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:52pm Andrew Waterloo:

hmm.. Goddo is touring again..
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:52pm Uncle Michael:

Frida's Phil Collins-produced LP was once a staple on my turntable.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:54pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:55pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats...forgot to ask for some J. Geils. Maybe next week.
Avatar Wed. 5/28/14 11:56pm pacific standard simon:

Thanks, EFD! Have a fun week!
  Wed. 5/28/14 11:58pm 12539:
