Kurt, I can't see the GIF either. This is an every-week thing for me, and the problem is that the GIF is hosted on a site that's on my employer's "banned" list. I don't know if that's Cecile's problem as well. |
![]() |
![]() that's probably what the problem is. I'll bet that's what it is. |
![]() |
![]() stupid banning employers. |
![]() |
![]() ah, that makes sense. the gifs are on photobucket |

Jeeze! a Beatles song I have never heard! |
![]() |
![]() When I still cared about piano, I managed to figure out how to pick out the melody line of this on our old upright. |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:13pm
Dean:
Cover of this tune on a recent Hillage issue is pretty darn good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Steve-Hillage-Band-Unconvention/dp/B008HRK6Z2
Fri. 5/9/14 4:15pm
vanya moscow:
I think, this LP and Magical Mystery Tour is, like, how things should be mixed. Always. And Electric Ladyland. Sorry for obviousness
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:16pm
northguineahills:
Not ashamed to say I dig this Beatles tune a lot! (I remember playing this in '94 in HS, and my friend heard the feedback and thought it was SY, [until the vox popped in] |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:19pm
vanya moscow:
Sorry, northguineahills, HS and SY - ?
![]() |

![]() |
![]() oh, Kurt, you should play James Last's version of Silver Machine. |
![]() |
![]() This McCartney tune is abolutely hep! |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:26pm
Dean:
For years this LP was one of your typical used bin orphans.
Fri. 5/9/14 4:27pm
vanya moscow:
Yeah, Carmichael, Best McCartney LP. It's like best of everything program today. And those sweet Czech sounds I never heard

northguineahills:
Been busy w/ phone interviews,,, not always on the board.. |
![]() |
![]() @ngh: interviews, as in job interviews? @Kurt: I didn't remember how much I loved those old Bush Tetras records |
![]() |
![]() a low point for SY. |
![]() |
![]() I thought this was Siouxsie and the Banshees at first. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:36pm
northguineahills:
Yeah. The calls earlier for two positions didn't give me many details. Waiting for call backs now. Hey, I like Goo! (then again a low point for SY isn't too low). |
![]() |
![]() @vanya: Kurt gets down weekly (usually) with the cool Czech pop! |
![]() |
![]() this and Experimental Jet Set made me sad. . Then they came out with Washing Machine/1000 Leaves/NY Ghosts and Flowers. Happy. Then Murray Street. sad. |
![]() |
![]() @ngh: good luck! |
![]() |
![]() Howa about Good Old Fashioned Medicated Goo, Kurt? The Traffic song. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:40pm
slugluv1313:
@ northguineahills -- YAY!!! JOB INTERVIEWS!!!! best of luck to you!!! |
![]() |
![]() cecile: rather ripped made me sad. sounded like a break-up. guess it was. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:42pm
northguineahills:
I thought Thousand Leaves was one of SY's best albums including the 80s. The rest, listenable, and fun in short bursts, but yeah, not to great. Thanks everyone! |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:43pm
northguineahills:
to=too |
![]() |
![]() They were phoning it it. And yet they got some of the best notices of their career. Go figure. ITA ngh, 1000 leaves is great and kind of underrated. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:44pm
Guido from Cologne:
so many differing moods about Sonic Youth ... i loved Goo but Washing Machine was the most surprising in being one of their best achievements |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile: that late 90's era also brought the first SYR records and the Silver session |
![]() |
![]() Washing Machine was great, and so was that tour. |
![]() |
![]() SYR and Silver were also very good. |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:49pm
blee:
The Slits!!!! | |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:49pm
Guido from Cologne:

![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 4:51pm
slugluv1313:

FELA KUTI, Yessssss! | |
![]() |
![]() Fela Fela Fela |
![]() |
![]() Is that an Adventure Time reference IKE? I just started watching that with my daughter. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 5:17pm
northguineahills:
@Mike: I've watch the whole series all by my lonesome. |
![]() |
![]() @ngh - I would, too. the 9 year old just gives me a good excuse...my wife looks at me funny when I watch weird cartoons on my own...not that I let that stop me. |
![]() |
![]() Yes indeed, Mike. Some of the most recent episodes were wildly psychedelic and blasted my mind wide open. Over time the show becomes much more mature. Finn has grown up as the kid voicing him has grown up. In most cartoons, nobody ages. |
![]() |
![]() For anybody still not convinced: www.newyorker.com... |
![]() |
![]() That's the article that got me watching! I think she writes great reviews and has pretty good taste. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/9/14 5:27pm
northguineahills:
Yeah, some episodes you have to watch a few times just to figure out what's happening. My mind gets blown, and it's trippy (as in the positive connotation) to boot. |
![]() |
![]() I'm kind of addicted to My Little Pony right now. |
![]() |
![]() I haven't watched cartoons or kids programming since the Wiggles replaced their leader. |
Fri. 5/9/14 5:32pm
bassfartz:
Hallo | |
![]() |
![]() Agreed, M.E., Nussbaum is the bomb. |
![]() |
![]() Cecile, I've heard that's good, but I'm terrified that I'd be assimilated into the bronies. Not gonna touch that with a 100-foot extension cord. |
![]() |
![]() You don't have to go to Bronycon to enjoy the show I just watch the show. I don't participate in any boards or buy any gear or any of that. |
![]() |
![]() Yikes, that's a creepy thought, Cecile & Mike. I didn't know that existed. Please don't tell me more. |
![]() |
![]() Nah, I know, J/K. Still a little vaguely terrified though. |
![]() |

Guido from Cologne:
How is this? I just pulled an old copy of Tubular Bells out by random, just wondering about the fuzzy quality of the jacket back ... |
![]() |
![]() Love the vinyl pops, Kurt! |
![]() |
![]() someone should play the piltdown man part. I never hear it. |
Fri. 5/9/14 5:57pm
