Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:15pm dale:

turned on the shortwave recently and reception was awful. then i shut off the lights, which are fluorescent bulbs. and shut off the wifi. and shut off the tv. and things started to come alive.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:16pm Rich in Washington:

You could do it in installments.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:16pm People Like Us:

yes, remote controls make radios go crazy too
ok, this is instalment number 1
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:22pm People Like Us:

I'm making you all go very quiet
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:23pm cloudnein:

Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:24pm People Like Us:

playing radio on the radio
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:29pm cloudnein:

that and I contacted WFMU to get my "Heart" for live playlists (I donated during the pledge drive, just hadn't set up an account; yay for the Chart Sweep CD!)

Love the radio interference sound! Took me a minute to realize I can't turn the tuning knob on my MBP.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:29pm People Like Us:

I wonder if anyone is retuning their radio
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:30pm Rich in Washington:

This is kinda like those Sublime Frequency 'Radio..' series, only in America. I wonder if hipsters would collect these in Syria, Thailand.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:30pm Andrew Waterloo:

There's one thing you can say about train wifi... you can really pass a 2 hour trip quickly if you're really focused on trying to get it to work.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:30pm People Like Us:

oh, glad you got Chart Sweep
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:30pm Rich in Washington:

Poor WBAI. Such a sad story.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:32pm Adrian:

As a brit it's weird to hear you guys talk about the shipping forecast as something strange. That brings me straight back to my childhood on the south coast.
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:33pm MrFab:

Sadly things haven't changed much since Cage and Feldman had this conversation. I like that idea, of having ambient music in public instead of blaring pop. But like Cage using these bad experiences to create his radio music, I took a horrible Pussycat Dolls song I was subjected to while trying to eat my pizza by making a mashup with it. I got my revenge!
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:34pm People Like Us:

yes, mashups made me like a lot of things I'd not have liked otherwise
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:35pm cloudnein:

Mashups are how I stay "hip".
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:38pm cloudnein:

F=MA, yo! Gotta go, listening on my phone using the WFMU app. :) TTYL!

Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:42pm People Like Us:

true
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:43pm cloudnein:

Record scratch, tape stretch, cd bit rot. Lost sounds! Jean-Michel Jarre used the "cell phone interference" sound in a song. :)
  Mon. 5/5/14 7:44pm cloudnein:

David Rothenberg, google him
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:45pm dale:

Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:52pm People Like Us:

the collective knowledge at WFMU is amazing - this playlist I'm doing has an autopredict for what song entry you are about to do - and no matter how original I think I am I always find it predicting what I'm going to play, ie someone has played it before on the station
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:52pm People Like Us:

and that is a gooooood thing
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:53pm MikeY:

Once I've downloaded this broadcast, what ratio should I use to speed-compress the entire show to hear the secret message that's been playing underneath the whole time?
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:54pm MikeY:

Im getting hungry for some bird right now.
Avatar Mon. 5/5/14 7:54pm dale:
