![]() hiiiiiilarious! hey kurt! |
![]() |
![]() Nice doggie .... |
![]() |
![]() Hello all! Trying to decide if the documentary "A Band Called Death" is worth watching tonight. Anyone familiar with it? |
![]() |
![]() I'm sure it'd be worth it! |
![]() |
![]() Some folks said it was good. I have their CD, but haven't seen the movie. the music is excellent. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/2/14 3:03pm
Mark Helsten:
Smooth transition from Bryce. |
![]() |
![]() caryn: yes, it's great |
![]() |
![]() @Caryn - yes, worth watching...though I don't think I finished due to circumstances at the time. But a well told story, and great music. |
![]() |
![]() Caryn, I haven't seen it, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. The story alone is interesting enough to make it worth your time. |
![]() |

Mark Helsten:
I heard nothing but good things about '.."Death", but have not yet seen it myself. |
![]() |
![]() Thanks for the info, all! They've been showing music documentaries on the same spot for a couple of months now. Seems like this will be a nice follow-up to the Big Star doc from a couple of weeks back. |
![]() |
![]() Bottom line -- if you're looking for Caryn tonight and you're not looking in front of a TV, you're looking in the wrong place. |
![]() |
![]() @CARYN: a band called death is a good 'un. i just saw a bbc doc on hawkwind. some funny stuff in that one! |
![]() |
![]() i for some reason had to turn off A Band Called Death a few minutes in after seeing Henry Rollins being a talking head. maybe i should've stuck with it... |
![]() |
![]() @Parq: I think that goes for most nights. A limited budget means the tv and laptop are my main entertainments. Being laid up with the flu right now means they're definitely the only pastimes I have at the moment. |
![]() |
![]() @common: That Hawkwind thing on-line somewhere? |
![]() |
![]() good afternoon, everyone! thanks for tuning in. |
![]() |
![]() BOWIE |
![]() |
![]() nice seg, Kurt. |
![]() |
![]() Got some Mal Waldron floating around? |
![]() |
Fri. 5/2/14 3:20pm
Mark Helsten:
I thought I recognised this... Nice choice from Heroes! |
![]() |
![]() Watched some old Prince today. I had somehow completely erased from my mind that Kristin Scott Thomas was in "Under the Cherry Moon". |
![]() |
![]() A Kenny G favorite! |

V Priceless:
Ray Davies chaser perhaps? Hi ! |
![]() |
![]() @ sem: yea. hawkwind thingy is on youtube. i think i just searched hawkwind bbc. |
![]() |
![]() this is what eric idle is parodying in Meaning of Life, right? |
![]() |
![]() @caryn: still haven't seen under the cherry moon. how was it? |
![]() |
![]() make mine Uncle Harriot... HAY CECILE! |
![]() |
![]() hay, pi! |
![]() |
![]() @Mike East: yep, it's an excellent Noel Coward parody. @common: didn't watch the movie, but rather music videos from the soundtrack album. It's not a good movie (hence I didn't watch it now), but the music and some of the actors I do enjoy. |
Fri. 5/2/14 3:26pm
P-90:
@Dj Kurt G.: Thanks for classing up the joint a little with Noel Coward
![]() |
![]() @Caryn - my favorite is the very end "thankyouverymuch". I play that in my head sometimes for a chuckle. |
![]() |
![]() if by classing up you mean unfurling a dozen double-entendres about Uncle Harry's proclivities... |
![]() |
![]() this is some heavy silence |
![]() |
![]() @caryn: i heard it was a stinker! thought maybe good bad. guess not. |
![]() |
![]() find your scream |
![]() |
![]() Hi Kurt. Cheri Pi -I watched your gif while playing the opening of Joe McGasko's show. It's perfect! (but you probably know that already) |
![]() |
![]() I wonder if Kurt will follow up the Coward with some similar "innocently performed double entendres" schtick from George Formby? The banned "With My Little Stick Of Blackpool Rock" or "When I'm Cleaning Windows" come to mind. |
![]() |
![]() I heard it was bad-boring |
![]() |
![]() @common. Thx. Stupid question. Right there under my fingers. |
![]() |
![]() @sem: not stupid. i am clueless...most of the time. floating around life in my head. |
![]() |
![]() @common: sadly not "so good it's bad", just bad. Awkward acting not helped by lousy dialogue. Prince's pal Tricky has a couple of decent lines, and that's it. |

![]() The things you stumble across while listening to the show and reading at the same time: Iggy Pop's backstage rider calls for a Bob Hope impersonator to be on hand. WTH?!? |
![]() |
![]() Iggy's rider has a lot of humor written into it. Much cooler than the boring crap I have to look at all day. |

Droll:
I'm really enjoying the chord catalog. It unintentionally gets moody at times, which isn't what I expected. Order makes an huge difference, I'm sure it's a totally different experience backwards. |
![]() |
![]() chord sounds may vary. please allow for... |
![]() |
![]() this is just an abstract interpretation of chopsticks, I think |
![]() |
![]() I'm about thirty seconds away from playing the YouTube 10 hour mix of Darude's Sandstorm |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile: well, at least Sandstorm is only 96 % repetition. |

Intense, in a scratch your own face off with a plastic knife kind of way, but in a good way.
![]() |
![]() but if I wait long enough, probability says that song should be coming up soon in this piece. |
![]() |
![]() ITA, Caryn. The rest is hair gel. |
![]() |
![]() I blame this track for me missing the connection between the Albanian prime minister and the iPod on the game show I'm watching. |
![]() |
![]() HAPPY weekending! beersies!!! |
![]() |
![]() This is all a-chord-ing to plan. |
![]() |
![]() By which I mean, this track is a very convenient excuse for not knowing the name of the Albanian prime minister. |
![]() |
![]() I actually answered a question of Cyprus correctly today at the coffee shop. I got 10 cents off. |
![]() |
![]() I really really really need a beersie to wash the taste of Rush out of my eyeballs. Not for the faint of heart Rush haters (like me) www.funnyordie.com... |
![]() |
![]() Wait, now we have to have an excuse if we don't know the name of the Albanian prime minister? Most people can't even name their Congressional representative. |
![]() |
![]() Ickkk, yuhhjckkkk, acKKk, [cough, spit, sputter...takes last breath[[clunk]] ] |
![]() |
![]() The worst meetings of all are Friday afternoon meetings. Kurt, I'll check the archives later for (hopefully) some Czech pop music. Cheri, You can't hate Rush as much as I do. The mere thought of that band ... yikes. |
![]() |
![]() hahahahah Looks like an outtake from I Love You Man. "7 girls at a Rush concert?" |
![]() |
![]() thank you Carmichael for those soothing words. I'm still dry heaving from the sight and the thought... Happy Kurt Day to all! |
![]() |
![]() Rush are funny. They make me laugh. |
![]() |
![]() @Parq: heh, nah, it's just that I rather enjoy when tv quiz shows are a bit more tricky (oh, my undying love for The Krypton Factor...). The downside is that they can sometimes leave you feeling like a moron for not getting most of the answers. In those situations, it feels nice to have an excuse handy (like "damn music throwing me off my game!"). |
![]() |
![]() Rush: oh dear. Peart on Letterman's "drum week": entertaining. "Trailer Park Boys" references to Rush: great. Thus ends my list of Rush-related things from worst to best. |
![]() |
![]() I wish siestas were more socially acceptable. I feel great now! |
![]() |
![]() I'm having video game flashbacks, I think. |
![]() |
![]() in America we called them "nappy naps" ngh |

Mark Helsten:
Hey... I live in Canada! Actually, there was a documentary on Rush that came out a few years back that is actually a great thing to watch. Said from someone who does not like them, however it is a great music documentary. over. en.wikipedia.org... |

Beyond the Lighted Stage, it is called... |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:32pm
Lawrence:
Kurt saves the Rush for after the show
Fri. 5/2/14 5:32pm
Lawrence:
or so it seems | |
![]() |
![]() When I worked for Dept of City planning, during our mandated 15 minute breaks (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), most people used that time to nap at their desks. |
![]() |
![]() i have no problem owning up to "bad" music i don't like. but rush, i do not like. |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:34pm
Clay:
Why pick on Rush when there are easier targets like Nickelback?
![]() |
![]() Well, Rush is diggable, Nickelback is painful (and not in a positive way) |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:37pm
Lawrence:
I just got up from a nappy nap. I suddenly wondered if Kurt played Rush for some reason and that's we're talking about it. but he didn't. You know, I'm not sure I've ever heard Nickelback.
Fri. 5/2/14 5:38pm
Clay:
Pennywise, Nickelback, Dimebag Darrell, Quarterflash, 50-cent ...
![]() |
![]() this part sounds like frangry coming home from a night on the town |
![]() |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:39pm
Mark Helsten:
In Canada we have mandatory 15 minute 'Rush Breaks', where we have to listen to rush. |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:40pm
Lawrence:
That's why nobody ever calls Steven Harper "leader of the free world"
Fri. 5/2/14 5:40pm
Clay:
Love it, Mark! On the rock stations that still exist, there is often a pre-designated time period to "Get the Led out," meaning Zep, of course.
Fri. 5/2/14 5:41pm
Clay:
*there ARE often | |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:44pm
Mother May 2:
No, Clay, "is" was correct.
![]() |
![]() Let me open that beersie for you. Thos hockey mask? Safety standards, ya know? thisisnthappiness.com... |
![]() |
![]() Certainly in terms of Canadian musical atrocities, Rush is probably not in the top 3, no matter how you slice it. Nickelback and Justin Bieber will probably be there, though. The third can be selected from a wide array of unfortunate Canadian acts, depending on your personal taste. |
![]() |
![]() I nominate Mike Meyers. |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:48pm
Clay:
Men Without Hats, Lime, Corey Hart, Triumph, Chilliwack, Brave Belt, Franz Joli, Crowbar ... so many
![]() |
![]() i hate rush because i used to like them. bands i never liked i don't hate. |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:49pm
Lawrence:
You used to like the Door?!?!
Fri. 5/2/14 5:50pm
Clay:
Kurt ... spark a fatty and put Vapor Trails on. Particularly, Earthshine. Fall in love all over again.
Fri. 5/2/14 5:50pm
Mother May 2:
Nope, I only hate bands I never liked. U2, REM, Elvis Costello...the list goes on. Never liked 'em. Never will.
![]() |
![]() That's actually quite logical, Kurt! (Got back early from a meeting, off to another one) |
![]() |
![]() i was about to say u2 is the exception that proves the rule but, nope, foreign as it feels to say it i liked them until that sunday fucking sunday song. |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:54pm
Clay:
Kurt ... what act do you like that would be hard to admit? A guilty pleasure.
![]() |
![]() great show |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:55pm
Mother May 2:
Good point. I might have liked the first couple of bars of "I Will Follow," the first tune of theirs I heard the first time I heard it, but then I hated it.
![]() |
![]() I'm not proud. I used to like Tom Petty. But then I evolved. |
![]() |
![]() Whew! Thanks again Kurt for tickling our tympanic membranes. Have a great weekend everyone! |
![]() |
![]() Nice...I'm going o see this outfit in the summer at the Edinburgh Festival |
![]() |
![]() gosh, clay - i'm not sure cuz i don't really feel guilty. there's songs by queen i like and songs by miley cyrus i like... |
![]() |
![]() tom petty has some good stuff. |
![]() |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:57pm
Rectitude says hi:
Hi KKKKKKKKKKK pppppppppppppp |
Fri. 5/2/14 5:58pm
Clay:
I don't know ... sometimes I don't believe people. It's like they're just trying to protect some kind of street-credibility. I love T. Petty's "You Got Lucky." And the video.
Fri. 5/2/14 5:58pm
Clay:
And thanks for playing Kansas City Star!
![]() |
![]() I was fine with U2 until about the mid-90s or so, so I guess I took longer to get sick of them. Plenty of acts I like individual songs from, but not their whole oeuvre. Even Chicago, Eagles and Styx. |
![]() |
![]() I love Rush. Full stop. Going to revisit Vapor Trails per your recommendation Clay; I recall being pleasantly surprised on first hearing. |
