There had to be a punk band at some point named Extreme Unction...
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 3:03pm Sem Chumbo:

Tuxedo Unction, what's your function? Oh, boy, I remember being Catholic...

how sublime is Family Fodder; that's rhetorical
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 3:17pm common:

this family fodder is grand! oh, you beat me paula.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 3:18pm Droll:

Firstly, I don't see any cows so I don't know why she's running, and secondly she's running in the rain looks like she's about to be struck in the head by lightning. I'm left to infer that's what Kevin was also doing...
Thirdly, I love Family Fodder, what an amazing sound, still totally fresh.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 3:18pm Fuzzy:

Hola all! Digging the Family Fodder these days!

This song makes the workday much much better....
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 3:26pm Sem Chumbo:

I am no theologian but it appears to me that the young woman has committed a venal sin in her irrational fear of cows and, as the Divine Smiting Presence is about to run a few million mega-watts through her forehead and teach her a lesson, she will be a candidate shortly for Extreme Unction, one of the three sacraments which constitute the Last Rites.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 3:30pm TDK60:

Irwin, the Partch show at Monctlair St. Univ. was great. Got to try some of the instruments afterward. Only catch, it wasn't free as I thought you'd said. It was $15. Still, special.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 3:31pm Mike East:

Almost bought Lonerism a couple weeks ago...maybe next week
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 3:33pm rrg:

@Sam: "venial" sin (not "venal").

I speak pedantically and technically That's the RC jargon, I believe.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 3:33pm GG Allin Thicke:

From: www.fisheaters.com...

"...At all times, the priest will be quiet and somber; don't expect him to socialize before or afterward, as he carries with him the Body of Christ."
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 3:43pm Sem Chumbo:

rrg: right you are, but close enough for the long-lapsed and unrepentant. Not expecting a lightning bolt anytime soon, either.

does the NWS get that detailed?
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 4:16pm earrie:

Detailed would be a storm graph. Maps with runoff rates in relation to substrate (eg. concrete vs earth)
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 4:18pm earrie:

er, 'and and and..'
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 4:33pm Droll:

Laura sings this great countrypolitan tune with a fantastic melody and hook, and then comes the jazz and you're reminded how itty-bitty country/pop is. Then you listen to orchestral and you realize how itty-bity jazz is...
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 4:34pm Irwin:

"Ask Me Now" written by Monk.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 4:34pm TR In MI:

Monk! Pianist did a nice job of imitating his solo stride style.
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 4:36pm common:

@TR and that aint easy!
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 4:41pm TR In MI:

@Common It sure ain't. My hat's off to anyone who can sound anything like Monk, much less put their own spin on his compositions.
  Wed. 4/30/14 4:43pm jan:

I'm especially enjoying this portion of the program.
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 4:44pm Irwin:

Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 4:47pm Guido from Cologne:

This This Heat track was one of my favourites on Recommemnded Records Sampler 1982.
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 4:49pm Guido from Cologne:

... aaah I see, seems still to be more or less exclusively on that album.
Same 24 track tape looop as on song with "24 track loop" on first album.
The "nice version" so to say ...

Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:05pm Mike East:

I heard the Dan Tullis/Joel Clark commercial on the radio the other day for the first time. I had no idea that was in current rotation. Its ridiculous!

Pinback!
  Wed. 4/30/14 5:06pm jan:

Irwin- Thanks for the regular playing of JAZZ, a musical genre I had resisted listening to for many years. By the time I had a stereo set JAZZ had devolved into saxophonic bleating that were too hard on my ears. Aurally it was analogous to expressionist art which I enjoyed looking at but preferred not to hear.
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:09pm Irwin:

I hear ya, Jan. When someone says they "love jazz," it usually means they haven't been put to the test.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:10pm northguineahills:

I believe I have this Boyd Rice LP.
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:11pm Alison Porchnik:

As Monica sez (I think?) "Love and jazz should never be free."
Wed. 4/30/14 5:11pm Listening Out There:

Boyd Rice is deep
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:11pm Irwin:

BRING BACK THE CIRCUS MAXIMUS!
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:12pm Mike East:

perhaps, but as Cecile says, "The best jazz in life is free"
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:12pm Dominick:

Oh I do, I do !
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:12pm Fredericks:

Irwin, Jan, are you guys bad mouthing Pharaoh?
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:13pm Irwin:

As Monica Lynch once remarked, "Jazz should never be free. It should be kept under lock and key. It should never even be eligible for parole."
Wed. 4/30/14 5:13pm Listening Out There:

Boyd Rice might be deeper than Jim Morrison
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:13pm Droll:

Dan Tullis and Joel Clark are still at it? Bring back Circus Maximus indeed!
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:13pm Alison Porchnik:

OK, so I added the love part. Which I also believe.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:14pm Fredericks:

Oh, a conservative are ya?
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:14pm Alison Porchnik:

Free love is for hippies
Wed. 4/30/14 5:15pm Listening Out There:

Jim Morrison might be deeper than Elmer Fudd. Might...
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:15pm Irwin:

As charged, Fred.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:15pm Fredericks:

It's free because that's all it's worth.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:16pm earrie:

Like freedom fries?
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:17pm Fredericks:

I feel the same way about the "free market". Life is funny.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:19pm Andrew Waterloo:

Jazz is the sort of thing you hate until you figured out that you love it.
  Wed. 4/30/14 5:20pm berbo:

Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:21pm Guido from Cologne:

what remix is this?
typical WFMU symptome ...
... is my online-player going nuts or is this intentional by the DeeJay ?
hehehe ....

Actually VLC-Play produces such loops after two hours of running or so.
... if some avantgarde is going on ... i might no notice for half an hor.
Avatar Wed. 4/30/14 5:22pm Fuzzy:

  Wed. 4/30/14 5:37pm danjoseph:

Hi Irwin, remind me where that lo-fi version of Four Organs comes from? You play it often I think...right?
Avatar    Wed. 4/30/14 5:38pm Irwin:

Four Optigans by Pea Hicks. Not sure if he ever released it.
