Evening, DJ Dave M.

@P-90: Come on over. Evening.

mariano:

Hey Dave, P-90, late nighters. Thanks for the tunes, working another late night -- though the client is Cuervo, and they've already thrown one bottle of 1800 my way (which I can't touch till I'm done with this project).

Evening, @mariano, @?

(Start the rock and roll percentageometer.)
Avatar 10:28pm
Dave Mandl:

My goodness. Just one or two more, that's it.
Avatar 10:29pm
Whooda:

I'm thinking if the vocal track was mute on this PT demo, @12539The instrumental would sound very much like the ambient set earlier. Hoping that the full 2% rock appropriation is still available. :)
  10:29pm
P-90:

This is different than the final release version, isn't it?
Tempting to say better
Avatar 10:29pm
Dave Mandl:

We'll need to get a third-party judgement on this track. Not really RnR, is it?
  Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
12539:

Goodness, is that a mellotron?
Avatar 10:30pm
Whooda:

RnR guilt by association with the Who.
  10:30pm
P-90:

No, it doesn't count. Don't add it to the quota
Avatar 10:30pm
earrie:

Does a percentageometer vibrate or does it go ding?
Avatar 10:31pm
Dave Mandl:

That was Townshend's original demo of the song. He always recorded those himself and used them to teach the group his songs. Often better than the Who's versions!
Avatar 10:31pm
Dave Mandl:

@12539: Yes, lots of Mellotron!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
mariano:

Remember the Tonshend album Scoop? Has other demos too, as I recall.
  Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
12539:

Percentageometers emit a mild electric shock to the DJ chair.
  10:32pm
P-90:

@earrie: DJ Mary Wing owns the Ding
Avatar 10:32pm
Dave Mandl:

There were two "Scoop" collections. Both really excellent, going back to some of the earliest Who songs.
Avatar 10:33pm
Dave Mandl:

@12539: Yow, I'd better watch it.
Avatar 10:33pm
earrie:

I imagine some kind of flick of a cigarette lighter in this case.
Avatar 10:38pm
Droll:

That Mellotron with the pitch problems was a microtonal fantasy. Porn for microtonal fans... Missed most of Pete's demos, but that's him on all the instruments -- a man after my own heart... So much respect for that...

Okay, back to dinner.
  10:39pm
JakeGould:

Hello folks!
Avatar 10:40pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey, @Jake. Also @earrie, @Whooda.

YETI BOB:

aww, I just read that Greg Weeks has retired ... I had been hoping for another Espers album!!
Avatar 10:51pm
Dave Mandl:

@YB: I didn't know that. Yeah, that's very sad. I'm a big fan of Espers too.

pacific standard simon:

Damn, late... got all involved in supper. Hi, Dave! Is it true that you're being replaced by Stephen Colbert?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
joeray:

I love Townsend's demos, but, always miss Keith Moon's drumming on them!
Avatar 11:16pm
Droll:

pss, Indeed, dinner time shouldn't cost half the WoE show. I probably never mentioned this publicly before, but I preferred the 3-hour format.
Avatar 11:19pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: I had no idea. But thanks.
@pss: Evening!
@joeray: Entwistle too. But still, they're impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
pacific standard simon:

Why mention it, when you can carve it into your boot and emboss it on someone's ass?
Avatar 11:22pm
Droll:

pss, You'd let me do that to you? That's awful nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm

Two of my earliest musical memories are Ahmad Jamal doing "Poinciana" and Charlie Byrd doing "Fantasia on Which Side Are You On".
Avatar 11:35pm
Droll:

I think my earliest musical memories are listening to pop and R&B FM stations on my Realistic radio. My folks weren't much on music around the house or in the car.

Dave, one of these weeks I request an all! exclamation! point! set! with only bands! and labels! using exclamation points! Very Exciting!

Godspeed You! Tired DJ.
Avatar 11:48pm

Looks like there are only about 40 bands with ! in the name. If I just had one more hour I could get an exact count...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
pacific standard simon:

I was disappointed when I learned that their name is pronounced "chk-chk-chk" -- I thought it was "bang bang bang"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm

Spooky, this Clamp woman!
  Swag For Life Member 11:49pm

I'll bet Gaylord knows 20 off the top of his head.
Avatar 11:50pm

I'm going to include bands with ! in the middle, like "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" Dave still has to shout it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

Has to be some Mexican bands with them exclamations front and back.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm

Some versions of "Stop! Stop! Stop!" by the Hollies include the punctuation -- some omit it.
  Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
12539:

And maybe follow it with a set of ALL CAPS, if that's possible.
