Mike Rader  Like A Possum   Options         Here is my Lou piece from an art installation I did at LIU Gallery in February. The show was " Lou Reed Transformer/Transformed: Like a Possum ". This is an abridged piece of the music that was looping during the exhibition. It is a collaged piece from Lou's Like a Possum. The work is about the saying "playing possum" and the idea of death and perception. i.e. Lou's music is still being streamed out continuously into the jelly. This can become a wish against the permanence of death. ...The work ends in a plea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-GQzLb4N2M  0:21:00 ()

I just heard myself sing.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 3:34pm Caryn:

I wonder if Joseph Arthur's Lou Reed tribute album is going to be any good? The few songs I've seen him perform from it sounded good.
Fri. 4/11/14 3:37pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

Funny story - I don't have access to Soundcloud in heaven.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 3:37pm Philthy woman:

Kurt, I love the graphics, reminding me of the cover art for 'That Skinny Motherfucker with the high pitched voice' by dump. Could/could't be the same artist?
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 3:38pm Mark Helsten:

Caryn: I saw him as part of the Montreal Jazz Fest a few years back, not having heard of him. I was really impressed. So that sounds like something I will look out for and thx for the tip!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 3:41pm Mary Wing:

Just got here, can we start the show over?

Wow, that is one *awesome* Lou gif!

Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:32pm Carmichael:

@ngh, Lou Reed was the Lou Reed bed music for the show about Lou Reed.
Fri. 4/11/14 4:32pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

I'm working on a new song: "What Laurie Says."
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:33pm northguineahills:

That was one of the few names, and now appropriate one that he had yet to use.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:34pm common:

So sincere and beautiful, Babara Browning.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:36pm northguineahills:

I'm embarrassed that my gf recognized the cover of "Perfect Day" on the PS4 commercial was originally Lou Reed before I did.

This one is nice.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:38pm Caryn:

Second Kurt show in a row that I've felt compelled to favourite.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:38pm Carmichael:

Kurt, are you gonna play one of Lou Reed's many appearances on 7SD??
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:46pm steve:

Carm.... what?? Lou Reed on 7SD?
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:47pm coelacanth:

Damn i wish i could stay for all this. I have to work outside until the rain comes,so it's the archive as usual.
Oh well,Thanks Kurt.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:50pm coelacanth:

sunday morning?
-but i'm not trying to win anything.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:51pm coelacanth:

....or all tomorrow's parties.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:53pm Carmichael:

Sorry, I was being snide, Steve. Ken would insist that Lou Reed would be on the show each week for about 3 months.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:56pm common:

to the archives for me for the remainder. this has been great, kurt! thanks again! and...beeeeeeeeeersies!!!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:56pm coelacanth:

(i meant venus in furs.)
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 4:58pm steve:

hahaha. i didnt know that. one time when i was in grad school Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson randomly walked into a lecture class halfway through and sat down in the back, eliciting many quiet wtfs.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:00pm Caryn:

Kuzucuk seem like a bit of a mystery band. Appear to be Latvian, but their name is Turkish, I think. Hmm...
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:00pm northguineahills:

I was going to guess coelacanth's last guess.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:00pm Caryn:

@steve: wtf were they doing there? Now I'm wondering too.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:00pm Kurt Gottschalk:

the song lou wrote for nico and then didn't let her sing was 'sunday morning.'
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:04pm Hortense:

we want the mule. ecstacy mule. muuuuulllle!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:06pm Carmichael:

Lou's getting his ass shot up with lasers!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:06pm steve:

Caryn - one of my school pals saw Lou Reed in the street, shouted "holy shit its Lou Reed!", Lou Reed stops and they get to talking. he and Laurie end up getting some kinda tour of the department. then my other school buddy ends up as Laurie's personal assistant for a year or two. true story.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:06pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hortense, ha! thanks. i'm not going to play myself on my show, but yeah, here's my vu cover: soundcloud.com...
Fri. 4/11/14 5:10pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:11pm Caryn:

@steve: clearly I need to remember to shout the next time I see a famous person on the street.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:12pm Cecile:

"Holy Shit! It's Darude!"
"Holy Shit! It's Teemu Selane!"
"Holy...." I got nothing. hahahahahah
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:14pm northguineahills:

"Holy shit, Steve, its Cecile!"
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:16pm mariano:

My latest famous person sighting was Jim Jarmusch the other day, right off Bowery. I just smiled and nodded hello and he nodded back, he was walking with someone so I didn't want to interrupt.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:17pm Hortense:

ok, I'll settle for the Princelings. They are also facebook friends.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:18pm Caryn:

@Cecile: well, I have seen Teemu Selanne naked. It was not a moment to shout "holy shit, it's...". That would've been a buzzkill.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:18pm Carmichael:

This sounds like MOST Lou Reed songs!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:18pm northguineahills:

Dug the AYBA 440 jam. At first the out-of-tune vocals irritated me, but they eventually grew on me.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:19pm Cecile:

Caryn, jelz.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:21pm steve:

yeah, its probably not good protocol to try the holy shit move if the celeb is with company. or naked.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:21pm Erich:

Thanks Kurt.
The show sounds great.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:22pm Caryn:

@Cecile: I should dig around if I can find some of my old photos of Selänne in a speedo. Took them in Portugal. That was the time I got his autograph. The naked encounter was a year or two later.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:22pm Hortense:

Nice job on Pale Blue Eyes Erich!
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:23pm Cecile:

Was it at the sauna, Caryn?
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:27pm Cecile:

Love the commentary.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:28pm Erich:

Thanks Hortense.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:28pm mariano:

What's Rothwell talkin' 'bout? I think it sounds awesome!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:29pm Caryn:

@Cecile: no, the ice rink locker room. My friend's father worked there and we'd get to hang out "backstage" as it were. Happened to stumble upon Selänne in the buff one day. Mind you, we were 12 at the time while Selänne was 21, so the encounter was not exactly brimming with sexual tension. Though we girls didn't mind seeing a naked Selänne at all.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:31pm Cecile:

Hahahahaha. Great story, Caryn.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:32pm Erich:

I liked that Rothwell also.
Fri. 4/11/14 5:37pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

Fantastic Waiting for the Man.
Fri. 4/11/14 5:38pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

And great Venus In Furs.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:39pm Caryn:

I want to play this to anyone that says the ukulele is just a twee, overly saccharine instrument for stupid hipsters.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:42pm dale:

mr. gross knocked one out of the park. and when i say park i mean tompkins park.
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:43pm Wet Peltix:

Thanks for playing our stuff! Sorry to nitpick, but the band is called Adeptive Radiation.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:43pm northguineahills:

I like this Venus in Furs. The original is so awesome it's hard not to do a great cover of it (not to take away from Richard, thanks!).

All of these are superb, thanks Kurt!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:43pm Sem Chumbo:

Can't thank you enough for this afternoon, Kurt:)
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:43pm LJ:

Thanks alot Kurt!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

wet peltix - oops, i saw that mistake and forgot to get back and fix it. will do!
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:44pm Carmichael:

@Caryn: Agrred, but that would not explain Tiny Tim and George Segal.
Fri. 4/11/14 5:45pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:

Everyday is tomorrow's party up here.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:50pm Cecile:

is this the person who did "new soul"?
  Fri. 4/11/14 5:51pm marmalade kitty:

Great shoe Kurt
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:52pm mariano:

The other shoe, not so good...
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:52pm dale:

tiny tim was the man. encyclopedic knowledge of tin pan alley songs locked up in that man's head. too bad he just played the camp side of things.
Avatar Fri. 4/11/14 5:52pm Carmichael:

Maybe Lou will do a version of the Petula Clark song for closing!
Fri. 4/11/14 5:52pm The Ghost of Lou Reed:
