Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:36am Cecile:

Yeah, later that year I went to Montreal and found this serious beatnik record store with Black Monk Time the book in the window. I told them I'd seen Gary, and they were all, in these charming French accents: "No way! Zat ees sick!"
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:36am Guido from Cologne:

was lucky to see the Cologne premiere of the Monks doc. With director and former manager.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:37am Cecile:

Hi Tim and folks! I like your name, Tim, and your playlist with the album covers.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:38am Guido from Cologne:

Exept for the manager: no.
But he was intersting enough. He told a littele bit about how it was touring the clubs in Germany.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:39am Cecile:

Was it pretty rough? i know American rock and soul bands have lots of stories to tell about the roadhouse joints in the 50s and 60s.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:40am Cecile:

oh, you mean the book where John was probably tripping balls from the bat guano in the cave where he was holed up.

Sorry, lapsed Catholic here.

Ah 1973 PMOY Marilyn Cole and her pink Volvo

Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 9:42am tim:

No need to apologize for lapsedness. It happens to be the fastest growing denomination on the planet. BTW, see Jung's "Answer to Job" ... it rocketh.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:44am Guido from Cologne:

apart from the disadvantage of looking like Monks the guys seemed to have had the party of their lives! They toured the South-German GI-circuit mainly. Often enough the spectators didn't even get that they were witnessing avanguarde.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 9:44am Cecile:

I just like to say "tripping balls from the bat guano", let's be honest.

Oh, speaking of mashups, has someone tried to mash up the Cars's Drive with Big Star's Thirteen? It was kind of running in my head this AM.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 9:45am tim from champaign:

Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:17am Guido from Cologne:

In a Steve McQuenn docu it was said the car chase seens in Bullitt were the real thing at original locations. They didn't bother with permissions, if any given expecting it would all become all too expensive.

Hi Evan. Didn't get to hang with you much during the Marathon, but I appreciate your help when I panicked (phone room, finale).

love this flick.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:21am tim:

@Guido: Yes, indeed. I need to find out who is playing bass and drums in this recording.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:21am Cecile:

I used to dislike Harvey, but his reactions on Family Feud are kind of priceless. It's like he's channeling the audience's disgust at stupid answers.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:22am Guido from Cologne:

I think it was the two-bass line-up (double + electric) in the so called wrecking crew.
The electric bass is for sure Carol Kaye.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:23am tim from champaign:

Steve Harvey used to slay me on Showtime at the Apollo.

never saw him on that.
He does exasperated now almost as well as Bernie Mac (RIP)
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:26am Guido from Cologne:

Just found out BULLITT on Aleph Records is a re-recording. I'm listening with low volume so I did not notice that it is not the origiinal.
  Wed. 3/26/14 10:27am Ralphine:

I was going to say the same thing about Family Feud. See youtu.be...
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:27am tim:

@Guido: ¡¡¡No shite!!! I wondered about such things, but didn't look at closely. Sounds so clean.

Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:30am tim:

Ike! Good to see you.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:31am Ike:

Good to hear *you*, Tim.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:32am Guido from Cologne:

I checked AllMusic, last sentence of the whole review.

But pretty often the old "Original Soundtracks" are re-recordings as well, for the home stereo and with aditional vocal versions.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:32am tim:

Now I wonder if that Cincinnati Kid album was a remake. Hmm. Am I being too puristic in my (slightly negative) wariness?
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:33am Cecile:

hey, ike
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:34am Cecile:

I seem to remember original soundtrack records being a little different from original soundtracks. Star Wars, it was the same orchestra, but slightly different from the film IIRC.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:34am still b/p:

Saw the car chase in The Seven-Ups recently, and noted that the goosed car sounds were way incongruous with what Roy Scheider was driving. Just found a note that claims Bullitt car sounds were re-used for it.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:35am tim:

@Ike: But aren't *you* animated!
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:36am βrian:

I haven't seen The Seven-Ups. Was it the same car as the one on the top of the page? Vroom, vroom.
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:37am Rev. Turnip Druid:

What it is!
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:37am common:

i totally believe that, still b/p!
Avatar Wed. 3/26/14 10:38am tim:

Seven Ups! I have it, vid and ost. Not a good transfer, or recording... an underrated film.
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:40am common:

seven ups is pretty good! roy scheider is great!
Avatar    Wed. 3/26/14 10:40am Guido from Cologne:

Often enough re-recordings are the only way to get the music decently withoud sound effects. But i would always prefer the original if there is one existing, even if the master himself conducts. the original vintage studio sound, the real mood of the time period.
