@KP: The closest Gaelic parallel I can find to McGasko would be "pre 10th century Olde Gaelic MacAsgaill meaning 'The son of Askell', the latter being a word and personal name which means 'The cauldron of the gods'." More Isle of Skye/Lewis than Erin, but Gaelic at least!

Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:08pm Whooda:

@Ike I believe the signal would degrade (less energy) with more distance. I'm not familiar with the measurement you cited.

re: Illum Sphere..
  Mon. 3/17/14 4:14pm Bud:

Not to butt in, but FCC Part 15 sets a limit of 100 milliwatts final transmitter output. IIRC there are some antenna gain limitations as well, particularly for omnidirectional. Limits can be higher for some services like 802.11 wireless networking.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:15pm glenn:

no, distance isn't resistance. resistance is load, expressed in ohms.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:17pm Ike:

@Whooda, already got all that. These bastards are way beyond Part 15. They've been a problem for FMU for years. @Glenn, oops, hmm. All I have is that link.
  Mon. 3/17/14 4:18pm tom:

@whooda-who are the superhero characters in your avatar. I remember reading about them and their creator, but can't remember the names. do you know? thanks!

  Mon. 3/17/14 4:20pm P-90:

re: "how many watts is 279,000 microvolts/meter?": watts and volts in this regard are two very different things, one can't convert or "derive" one from another.

I just wanna hear Jack Webb read that complaint from the FCC Bureau of Enforcement. In his best Joe Friday voice. I want it bad.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:21pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@P-90: followed by Harry Morgan describing in medical detail the contents of his deli sandwich. Priceless moment.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:21pm Whooda:

@Tom I grabbed the pic from Boingboing blog the other day, haven't a clue to the origin but just liked the image. Boingboing used it to illustrate an unrelated article .
  Mon. 3/17/14 4:22pm Bud:

Decent writeup on interference referencing field strength measurements at the point of interference, microvolts per meter.

Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:23pm Bas NL:

Killer set!
  Mon. 3/17/14 4:25pm tom:

ok thanks anyway. the comic strips that those characters are in are pretty amazing if you should ever come across them.
  Mon. 3/17/14 4:27pm P-90:

@Ike, remember FM signals behave like any other EM radiation and lose strength with distance by an inverse square. So if you can measure signal strength at 200 meters or whatever, you can approximate the strength at the source. Right?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Just a quick question to others on the playlist; is there any way of listening to archived WFMU playlists on a mobile phone without using the WFMU app? I just happen to be stuck with a Windows Phone for the time being, and while TuneIn's fine for listening to the station live, it doesn't allow me to shows I've missed on the move.

Yep mariano, same here. But I feel better having heard it then not hearing it :)
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 4:44pm Rev. Turnip Druid:
