Good evening, everyone! :)

Hello! Thanks for stopping by!
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:12am nate:

I wonder if House of Pain's Sub Pop 7" is in the record library. Yes, it exists.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:15am KP:

Is this Therese Lizzy
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:16am P-90:

nothin like a little Thin Lizzy on a Sunday eve
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:17am P-90:

@KP: T. Lizzy, haha!

Happy St. Pub's Day to all! I'm getting thirsty already, this song smells like a good bar
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:21am mariano:

Irish? Late night? Boomtown Rats "Up All Night!" Not Irish themed, but still...
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:21am KP:

Saw a long & wonderful documentary about Phil Lynott last time I was in Ireland. That would be 14 St Patricks Days ago.
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:21am JakeGould:

Listening to the record clicks streaming through my iPhone is fantastically surreal. And yes, I remember that "House of Pain" SubPop single. Actually had it 20 years ago. Got rid if it in the "Sorry, but I am digital now!" purge of the early 2000s. Shamrocks
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:22am tomB:

Birmingham 6 needs to be listened-to carefully. Imagine being jailed because there was nitroglycerine residue on your fingertips--until your new lawyer documents that you can pick up nitroglycerine residue from the finish on playing cards.
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:24am Steve-O:

Hi Therese! I hope you're enjoying St. Patrick's Day so far.....=)
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:24am KP:

And Happy St Patrick's Day, Therese
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:24am pacific standard simon:

What can I say; I'm half Irish, and find most American celebrations of Irishness at least as offensive as Huey Newton would be offended by Amos and Andy (I'm guessing).
Mon. 3/17/14 12:26am Bob in DC and/or VA:

Hey Therese and WFMU listeners everywhere!
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:27am P-90:

Sing it for the Irish, Yoko!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:28am Whooda:

@Bad Guy Zero You think the announcement today will declare the moon made of cheese. I think it will be that Cher and Rivers et al have proven that plastic surgery neutralizes gravitational waves.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:28am mariano:

Didn't realize till recently that Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison all have Irish roots.

  Mon. 3/17/14 12:34am JakeGould:

I'm in Bay Ridge and all pastries are Irish right now.
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:35am P-90:

@Mariano: yeah, the Liverpool part of England is chock-a-block with both Irish and Scottish blood
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:35am Carmichael:

Happy Paddys Day from a Wexford lad. Please play the Undertones sometime this evening. Mwahh!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:36am BadGuyZero:

St. Patrick's Day is "Amateur Drinking Day brought to you by Flogging Molly and McMiller McLite"
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:37am Whooda:

'I rush' from bar to bar, that's pretty close.

Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:39am mariano:

Hey, a clue I couldn't get from Saturday's crossword just turned out to be St Pat, very fitting. Clue was "Annual Winter honoree, briefly."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:39am BadGuyZero:

The thing I wanna know is if Chicago can dye the river water green for St. Patrick's Day why can't they dye it red when Slayer comes to Chicago?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:39am Tome:

it's happened 2 times since I been listening to this station .. where back then 10-20 years ago it was like "" what the heck is that your listening to?" then when you see them after so many years ... they're hooked !!!
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:40am JakeGould:

Real rocks for my sham friends, shamrocks for my real friends!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:41am pacific standard simon:

@Tome - I keep hoping for that. I get the first part, but never the second part.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:42am mariano:

Undertones! I remember seeing this vid when I was 10 or so, in the early days of HBO, when they'd play random videos between movies, before MTV. How I heard Polyrock too. Wow, thanks Therese, memories!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:42am pacific standard simon:

Here's a vote for Elvis Costello's "American Without Tears".
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:43am BadGuyZero:

John Peel's all-time favorite song was The Undertones "Teenage Kicks."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:44am mariano:

Yeah, Simon, or "Tramp the Dirt Down."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:44am pacific standard simon:

White cable knit jumpers suck.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:45am mariano:

In our own slime? Ewwww!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:45am BadGuyZero:

@mariano: The town in which I grew up didn't have MTV for many years so HBO was the main source of music videos for me. I remember seeing Weather Girls' "It's Raining Men." Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Wham's "Bad Boys" on HBO.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:47am Tome:

.,, wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald ,,,
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:48am Steve-O:

I've got a little Irish in me.....although quite a bit of that is more *Scots*-Irish, to be honest.
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:48am JakeGould:

@BGZ: In NY
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:49am mariano:

@BGZ: yeah, HBO used to do some really cool stuff like that between movies: stupid little shorts like "Hardware Wars" and "Close Encounters of the Nerd Kind."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:50am pacific standard simon:

I find my Welsh and Scottish heritages much more comforting, I must say. Especially the Scots, because they fucked the British from time to time -- but they eventually became what they beheld.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:51am Tome:

HBO ,, remember very wild parties like 30+ years ago all too well,,, was an "outside contractor back then..
  Mon. 3/17/14 12:53am Carmichael:

Several thousand thank yous, Therese! Here's to Ireland's 32.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:55am Whooda:

I'll take Sinead O'Conner anyway I can, thanks Therese.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:58am mariano:

Heaney mentioned Vinegar Hill. Interesting, there's a 'hood here in Brooklyn with that name, wonder if the Irish one is the origin.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 12:59am pacific standard simon:

Ah, I was trying to think of an Irish musician that I felt mostly comfortable with... appropriate that it's the thorny Van Morrison.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:00am JakeGould:

Did my iPhone comment come through? Argh. I meant to say, U-68 in NJ and NYC was the UHF video station. Same channel as Uncle Floyd and WHT (the movie network).
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:03am Therese:

I remember U-68!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:05am pacific standard simon:

Please, for the love of Jaysus, no OOTOO.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:05am Steve-O:

@PSS: Yeah, I've got quite a bit of Welsh and Scottish, too, it seems. Surprisingly enough, though, I might be more French than Scottish, at least.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:06am JakeGould:

Yes! Therese! U-68 was the only thing out in the boonies of Brooklyn. Small night slot in the channel for metal. And profoundly awkward hosts that made Uncle Floyd look pro.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:07am mariano:

Wow. Yeats. Nice one.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:08am JakeGould:

Yeats! Now I feel like I am in the library in JHS. Not a bad thing!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:08am pacific standard simon:

Yeats is alright, but I prefer Dylan Thomas.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:08am mariano:

What's OOTOO?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:10am pacific standard simon:

There's a lovely Judy Collins musical cover of "Innisfree".
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:10am JakeGould:

PSS, did you hear about that blog, "My Husband's Stupid Yeats Collection." There are pictures of her on a futon with a drink and a Yeats book she mocks.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:10am pacific standard simon:

U2
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:11am mariano:

Oh, The Letter U and the Numeral Two. Gotcha.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:12am pacific standard simon:

My Husband's Stupid Poetry Collection -- now there's a blog my wife could REALLY get behind.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:14am JakeGould:

Anyone know any good limericks? Today is the day!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:14am pacific standard simon:

LOUIS SIMPSON, baby!!!!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:15am pacific standard simon:

Hm.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:18am mariano:

I was going to suggest some Joyce, an actress reading Molly Bloom's famous bit, or some of the music from that era...
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:19am BadGuyZero:

Is this James Joyce recording from Mac's record collection?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:19am mariano:

There was a young fellow named Feeney
Who dribbled some gin on his weenie
Just to be couth, he added vermouth
And slipped his wife a martini.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:21am tom:

t-do you have any samuel beckett?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:23am Whooda:

One of my favorites:
A young lady by the name of Bianca
Slept while the ship was at anchor,
She woke in dismay
When she heard the Mate say,
Lift up the Top Sheet and Spanker
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:23am pacific standard simon:

A fella from Belfast once said,
"There's bloody great worm in my head,
And it seems to be eating
All the meat I've been beating.
Please kill me, I want to be dead."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:23am BadGuyZero:

I wonder if Maple Leaf Mussolini [a.k.a. Canadian Glenn Beck] ever read "Ulysses."
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:24am mariano:

Oh, Whooda and Simon, cheeky monkeys!
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:26am JakeGould:

These limericks are filthy! They befoul the sanctity
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:26am mariano:

Who's the Canadian Glenn Beck?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:26am pacific standard simon:

Automatic writing.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:26am JakeGould:

Sanctity of Saint Paddy's day!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:27am mariano:

Hey, my limerick stresses the two great Catholic virtues: drinking and marital sex!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:28am BadGuyZero:

@mariano: This kid that called into "Best Show on WFMU" for a while. Tom told him he couldn't call in again until he read "Ulysses." He was never heard from again.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:29am pacific standard simon:

I curse the ones who spell it "Saint Patti's (or Patties) Day" on Tumblr.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:30am Whooda:

I'm guessing McDonalds celebrates St. Patties Day?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:31am mariano:

@BGZ: Oh wow, missed that one. Well, at least he's an honest fascist, or at least stuck on the Cyclops chapter where the one-eyed antisemite berates Bloom!
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:34am KP:

Van Morrison is a Protestant from Northern Ireland raised a uk citizen, British to the core. He admits he was not aware of Irish literary and musical traditions until late in life.
Now Christy Moore, he's your man.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:35am pacific standard simon:

Trust me, Therese, go for the Elvis Costello. He is more Irish than most of these foos, regardless.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:35am BadGuyZero:

Time for 90 minutes of metal???
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:40am mariano:

Yeats was also Protestant, so was Wilde. There were many Protestant nationalists, including leaders like Tone and Parnell.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:41am pacific standard simon:

Um, um... george bernard shaw...
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:43am mariano:

Sean O'Casey, JM Synge...
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:44am KP:

Thanks Therese for playing the Dubliners. That is indeed the rare auld stuff.
  Mon. 3/17/14 1:46am KP:

Still time for Mary Black. If you play Christy Moore, yea got to play Mary Black.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:46am pacific standard simon:

Someone already mentioned Samuel Beckett...
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:48am mariano:

Oh wow, didn't realize Beckett was Protestant too.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:49am BadGuyZero:

The progression of this Jacco Gardner tune reminds me of Emma Pollock's solo stuff.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 1:51am pacific standard simon:

  Mon. 3/17/14 2:19am tom:

like the contrasting guitar sounds on this bardo pond
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:22am mariano:

I remember a while back, probably a couple of years, when I first heard "The Stars Beyond" by Bardo Pond on this show.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:35am BadGuyZero:

You did a lot of talking two of the past three weeks. Taking a break from being on the microphone is understandable.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:44am BadGuyZero:

Yay! You're back!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:45am BadGuyZero:

Did he just crash through the ceiling???
  Mon. 3/17/14 2:45am Steve-O:

Hey AmEdeo! =)
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:46am mariano:

You scared the bejabbers out of me there, AmEdeo!
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:50am Whooda:

Isn't one of President Obama's daughter's name Malasia? Coincidence? I think not.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:50am BadGuyZero:

I bought a toy airplane at the airport and now I can't find it.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:50am BadGuyZero:

Gummi shoes???
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:54am mariano:

How could it still be in the air after a week?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:55am Whooda:

The flight was plane-jacked by some sky thugs trying to escape from Superman.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:55am BadGuyZero:

A seaciety?
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:56am BadGuyZero:

They will find the plane in some back alley in the Philipines up on blocks with the wheels gone, doors stripped and cd player ripped out of the cockpit.
  Mon. 3/17/14 2:58am Steve-O:

Didn't you mean "Atlanta"? LOL.....(sorry, couldn't resist). =p
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:58am BadGuyZero:

I think it's the start of the Bermuda Triangle's long-awaited comeback.
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 2:59am BadGuyZero:

Do you think the Newman death hoax is indicative of Seinfeld's involvement in the disappearance of MH370???
Avatar Mon. 3/17/14 3:02am Whooda:

Landing is a controlled crash by definition.
